Hand Cramping
Cramps in your hand can arise from a number of different causes. Hand cramps develop as a result of conditions affecting muscles and nerves in your hand. Trauma or injury to a nerve in your hand can also cause hand cramps. Even breathing too fast (hyperventilation) can result in hand cramps, as carbon dioxide levels in the blood become too low. Everyday, simple reasons, such as fatigue from overuse, can lead to temporary, acute cramps in the hand. Hand cramps are usually brief, but they can be severe and painful, and sometimes accompany a tingling or burning sensation (paresthesia). This is a common in those with diabetes and others who have suffered damage to the peripheral nerves (peripheral neuropathy, a disorder that causes dysfunction of nerves that lie outside your brain and spinal cord). Dehydration is a common cause for cramping due to low levels of calcium, magnesium, and fluids in the body. Heat exhaustion can lead to dehydration and cramping in the muscles of the hand and other extremities like your legs. Hand cramps may be recent in origin (acute), such as from injury or muscle fatigue, or develop over time (chronic), resulting from such conditions as kidney disease and dialysis. In some situations, hand cramps can occur as a result of chronic medical conditions that affect your entire body, such as thyroid disorders, dystonia (abnormal prolonged muscle contractions), or diabetes. While not serious by itself, hand cramping can be a sign of dehydration. If left untreated, severe dehydration and electrolyte imbalances can result in shock or coma and may be life threatening. Seek immediate medical care (call 911) if you, or someone you are with, have symptoms of severe dehydration including change in level of consciousness or alertness, such as passing out of unresponsiveness, or change in mental status or sudden behavior change, such as confusion, delirium, lethargy, hallucinations and delusions. If your hand cramp is persistent, recurrent, or causes you concern, seek prompt medical care. Injury or damage to any of the structures in your hand can cause hand cramps. Diseases that affect the entire body, such as Diabetes, dystonia, or peripheral neuropathy, are more complex processes that can lead to hand cramps 06

Sickness & Health
Onychophagia
Most people have heard that nail biting is a “bad habit”, but few are aware that it is actually considered a disorder. The medical term for nail biting is Onychophagia, and it is classified as an impulse control disorder, which means that those who suffer from it cannot control their urge to bite their nails. Onychophagia can lead to infections, pain in the fingers and torn skin around the fingernails.
Quick Facts: • Onychophagia is very common in individuals of all ages. • Up to 33% of children ages 7 to 10 suffer from Onychophagia. • Nail-biting can be induced by stress, boredom, or nervousness. • Onychophagia has been linked to obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). • Onychophagia can also be linked to a sign of emotional or psychological disorders.
Causes for Onychophagia
Onychophagia is very widespread and notoriously difficult to break; most people with Onychophagia do not even notice when they are biting their nails, as they usually do it during routine parts of their day. Nail-biting does not have to be stress-induced; many people bite their nails while watching television, reading, socializing, or even having conversation. People interpret nail biting as a sign of nervousness and a lack of confidence, however, nail biting is not always a result of these factors but exceedingly short nails and torn cuticles often point to an unstable nervous system. Onychophagia most commonly develops during the teenage years of an individual’s life and it is during this time that people experience the most convoluted emotions. In addition, it is during the teenage years that an individual is the worst-equipped to deal with his/her new challenges and emotions, which can lead to the development of Onychophagia.
Treatment of Onychophagia
Many people who have Onychophagia try to solve the problem themselves by coating their nails with special nail polish designed to repulse the nail-biter with its bitter taste; others either get regular manicures to encourage themselves not to bite their nails or get acrylic nails to protect their nails and enable them to grow. The most important aspect of treatment for onychophagia is the patient’s consent and cooperation; without cooperation, treatment is nearly impossible. 08

Smokey Robinson
If you're looking for the all-time number one purveyor of mainstream romantic soul, Smokey Robinson may well be the man, in the face of some towering competition. With the Miracles in the 1960s, he paced dozens of tuneful Motown hits with his beautiful high tenor. As a solo performer from the 1970s onward, he was one of the staples of urban contemporary music. But his singing gifts, as notable as they are, comprise only one of his hats: he's also one of pop's best and most prolific songwriters. As a songwriter and producer, he was the most important musical component to Motown's early success, not only on the hits by the Miracles, but for numerous other acts as well (especially Mary Wells and the Temptations). Surveying Robinson's achievements during the 1960s, one wonders if the man ever slept. While the Miracles were never Motown's biggest act at any given time, they were one of its very most consistent, entering the Top 40 25 times over the course of the decade. "I Second That Emotion," "The Love I Saw in You Was Just a Mirage," "The Tracks of My Tears," "Ooo Baby Baby," and "Baby, Baby Don't Cry" were some of their biggest singles, and usually represented Motown at its most sophisticated and urbane. Robinson also was extremely active at Motown as a songwriter and producer for other acts. The number one singles "My Guy" (Mary Wells) and "My Girl" (Temptations) were each Robinson songs and productions (the latter with fellow Miracle Ronnie White), and Robinson also did some excellent work with the Marvelettes and Marvin Gaye. He also toured with the Miracles, and started a family with the Miracles' female singer, Claudette Rogers, whom he married in 1964. Rogers stopped touring with the group in the mid-'60s, although she continued to sing on their records. Robinson had been made a vice president at Motown near the beginning of his career in 1961. He recorded frequently as a solo artist for Motown in the '70s and '80s, in a considerably mellower vein than his Miracles work, in keeping with the general shift of Motown and soul toward urban contemporary. Robinson, in fact, provided that genre with one of its catch phrases with the title of his 1975 album, A Quiet Storm. "Cruisin'" (1979) and "Being with You" (1981) were his biggest solo hits, although artistically and commercially his solo era wasn't nearly as successful as his music with the Miracles. Moses The Prophet
Moses [mo' - zez] --- the Hebrew prophet who delivered the Israelites from Egyptian slavery and who was their leader and lawgiver during their years of wandering in the wilderness. He was from the family line of Amram and Jochebed (Ex. 6:18, 20; Num. 26:58 - 59), Kohath and Levi. He was also the brother of Aaron and Miriam. Moses was a leader so inspired by God that he was able to build a united nation from a race of oppressed and weary slaves. In the covenant ceremony at Mount Sinai, where the TEN COMMANDMENTS were given, he founded the religious community known as Israel. As the interpreter of these covenant laws, he was the organizer of the community's religious and civil traditions. His story is told in the Old Testament --- in the books of Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. 12
