Our Identity in Christ
by Heidi Breiner
Whether you are a Christian or an unbeliever we are all searching for who we are. This Life is a journey of searching. We take our identity from our family, our traditions, our past experiences, our friends, our culture, the media, what is trending, what others say about us. When we meet Christ, everything changes. We try to fill the emptiness we experience with relationships, people, substances, material things, instead of filling it with Christ.
The minute He meets us, our lives change; we are chosen vessels. One of my favorite scriptures is Isaiah 43:1 which says “but now, that says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, and he who formed you, O Israel: fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are mine.” Just those last three words fill my heart with such joy. “You are mine.” When we receive Christ as our personal Savior, He fills that emptiness we have been trying to fill ourselves. We are now sons and daughters of the Highest God. “But to all who did receive Him, believed in
His name, He gave the right to become children of God, who were born, and not a blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but
I’ve God.” John 1:12-13 As Children of God, He gives us His protection, provision, and spiritual authority.
He lavishes His love on us.
Isaiah 54:17 gives us a picture of God‘s protection it says: “ no weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed, and you shall confute every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord and their vindication from me, declares the Lord.”
He puts His covering on us.
Luke 12:24 we see God‘s provision: “ consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no store room or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are then birds!”
How beautiful the passages, we are more valuable and precious to Him.
Matthew 18:18-20 gives us a good picture of our spiritual authority through Christ.
“Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in Heaven, and whatever you loose in the earth shall be loosed in Heaven. Again, I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by the Father in Heaven. For where two or three are gathered in My, Name here I am among them.”
How powerful!
We must know who’s we are. God’s fullness and goodness surrounds us the more we seek Him and walk close to Him. Let Him show you who you are. He has called you by your name, you are His.
