Size 16 MATERIALS – Fleisher's Brettonsheer; or Bear Brand or Bucilla Tricolaine; 7 skeins. 1 Fleisher's or Bucilla Sure-Fit 27-inch Circular Steel Knitting Needle, Size 2. 1 Fleisher's or Bucilla Steel Crochet Hook, Size 2. 3 Buttons ⅜ inch diameter. IMPORTANT – Check your gauge first. These directions apply only when Fleisher's, Bear Brand or Bucilla Yarns are used as recommended. GAUGE: Stockinette St – 15 sts = 2 ins. 11 rows = 1 in. MEASUREMENTS FOR FINISHED GARMENT Bust 35 inches. Width across back at underarm 17 ins. Width across back at shoulders 12 ½ ins. Length from lower edge to back neck edge 18 ins. Sleeves - Width below underarm 12 ½ ins. SHOULDER PIECES-Cast on 12 sts on circular needle and work back and forth in stockinette st (p 1 row, k 1 row) for 8 inches, ending with a p row. Break yarn and slip sts to a strand of yarn. K side is right side. Make a 2nd piece in same way. YOKE-Cast on 128 sts on circular needle for neck edge. First row-K all sts. 2nd row (right side)-P 18 (back), y o, k 1 (mark for first seam st), y o, p 22 (shoulder), y o, k 1 (mark for 2nd seam st), y o, p 44 (front), y o, k 1 (mark for 3rd seam st), y o, p 22 (shoulder), y o, k 1 (mark for 4th seam st), y o, p 18 (back). 3rd row-K all sts. 4th row-K 19, y o, k 1, y o, k 24, y o, k 1, y o, k 46, y o, k 1, y o, k 24, y o, k 1, y o, k 19. 5th row-P 20, k 1, p 26, k 1, p 48, k 1, p 26, k 1, p 20. 6th row-K 20, y o, k 1, y o, k 26, y o, k 1, y o, k 48, y o, k 1, y o, k 26, y o, k 1, y o, k 20. 7th row-K all sts (152 sts). 8th row-P 21, y o, k 1, y o, p 28, y o, k 1, y o, p 50, y o, k 1, y o, p 28, y o, k 1, y o, p 21. 9th row-K all sts. 10th row-K 22, y o, k 1, y o, k 30, y o, k 1, y o, k 52, y o, k 1, y o, k 30, y o, k 1, y o, k 22. 11th row-P across, knitting the 4 seam sts. Note: Seam sts are always knitted on both right and wrong side. 12th row-K 23, y o, k 1, y o, k 32, y o, k 1, y o, k 54, y o, k 1, y o, k 32, y o, k 1, y o, k 23 (176 sts).


Continue the 6 rows of pattern as before, increasing 1 st each side of each of 4 seam sts every 2nd row until there are 256 sts on needle, ending with 2nd row of pattern. Next row off next bind off these 35

(wrong side)-K 35 54 sts, with 1 st next 54 sts, with sts to a separate

FRONT-Working from right side of all pieces, slip 12 sts of one shoulder piece to needle, join yarn and k these 12 sts, then k across 78 front sts, slip 12 sts of 2nd shoulder piece to free end of needle and k across these sts (102 sts). P 1 row. K 1 row, increasing 1 st each side. Continue in stockinette st, increasing 1 st each side every 2nd row 7 more times. Cast on 10 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows for underarm (138 sts). Continue in stockinette st decreasing 1 st each side every 1 ½ ins. 5 times (128 sts). Work even until 8 ins. below sts cast on for underarm, ending with a p row. Decrease row-K 8, * k 2 tog, k 2; repeat from * 27 times, k to end (100 sts). Work in ribbing of k 2, p 2 for 3 ½ ins. Bind off as to k and p. BACK-Slip 35 sts of each side of back to needle. Working from right side, pick up and k 12 sts across cast-on edge of left shoulder piece, k across 70 sts of back (joining both halves), pick up and k 12 sts across cast-on edge of right shoulder piece (94 sts). Beginning with a p row work stockinette st for 2 ins. from yoke, ending with a p row. Increase 1 st each side on next row and repeat increases every 2nd row 7 more times. Cast on 8 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows for underarm (126 sts). Continue stockinette st decreasing 1 st each side every 1 ½ ins. 5 times (116 sts). Work even until same length as front to beginning of ribbing, ending with a p row. Decrease row-K 10, * k 2 tog, k 2; repeat from * 23 times, k to end (92 sts). Work ribbing as on front. Bind off. SLEEVES-Cast on 80 sts for lower edge. Work in stockinette st, increasing 1 st each side every ½ in. 7 times (94 sts). Work even until 4 ins. from lower edge, ending with a k row. Bind off 9 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows for underarm. Decrease 1 st each side every 2nd row 3 times; every 4th row 11 times, ending with a k row. From now on work pattern as on yoke continuing to decrease 1 st each side every 4th row 3 more times, then every row 3 times. Bind off remaining 36 sts. There should be 3 p stripes and 2 stockinette st stripes at top of sleeve. FINISHING-Sew underarm and sleeve seams. Sew inner edge of shoulder pieces to respective outer edges of yoke. Sew in


sleeves with sleeve seam at center underarm, holding in fullness at top. Working from right side work 1 row s c around lower edge of sleeves, keeping work flat. Join yarn at lower edge of left side of back opening, working from right side work 17 s c to corner, 3 s c in corner, continue s c around neck edge, keeping work flat and decreasing 1 st in each of the 4 corners, work to lower edge of right side, join. Make buttonloops on left side of opening as follows: * work 1 slip st in each of the 4 s c, ch 3 for buttonloop, skip 2 s c; repeat from * twice, 1 slip st in corner. Fasten off. Steam. Sew buttons on right edge of opening. Use shoulder pads No. 3
