This sweater can be made with: “GEM” HAT and BAG YARN, Article 144. 12 (13, 14) skeins Old Rose or color desired. or “DAWN” BULKY YARN 11 (12, 13) skeins Shell Pink or color desired. 2 pr. plastic knitting needles No. 10. Aluminum crochet hook size F. Directions are given for size 12. Sizes 14 and 16 are given in brackets. GAUGE: 7 sts = 2 inches, 5 rows = 1 inch. Measurements: Sizes 12 (14, 16) Width across back at underarm 20” (21”, 22”) Width across each front at underarm 12” (12 ½”, 13”) Cast on 71 (75, 79) sts, K 1, P 1 across row ending with K1. 2nd Row. P 1, K 1 across row ending with P 1. Repeat the 2 rows for pattern until work measures 5 inches. Next Row. Keeping pattern even increase 1 st at beginning and end of row. Work even in pattern until work measures 10 (10 ½, 10 ½) inches from beginning. Next Row. Keeping pattern even increase 1 st at beginning and end of row. Work even in pattern until work measures 15 (15 ½, 16) inches from beginning. Next Row. Increase 1 st at beginning and end of row. Work 1 row even. Repeat the last 2 rows twice 81 (85, 89) sts. Next 2 Rows. SLEEVES: Cast on 15 (17, 19) sts at end of each row. Work even in pattern on 111 (119, 127) sts for 6 ½ (7, 7) inches ending at sleeve edge. RIGHT FRONT: Next Row. Work in pattern across 49 (53, 57) sts, place remaining sts on a holder, drop yarn. Using a separate pair of needles and separate skein of yarn cast on 30 (32, 34)


sts for front starting with a knit st, work in pattern for 4 rows. On 5th row bind off loosely 7 (7, 7) sts in pattern at beginning of row for back neck band, cut yarn leaving an end to sew. The remaining sts are part of front. With shoulder needle work across the next 23 (25, 27) sts, 72 (78, 84) sts on needle. Work even until sleeve measures 13 (14, 14) inches at cuff edge. Next Row. Bind off 15 (17, 19) sts, work even to end of row. Next Row. Work even across row. Next Row. Decrease 1 st at beginning of row (side edge). Repeat the last 2 rows twice. Work even for 5 (5 ½, 5 ½) inches ending at side edge. Next Row. Decrease 1 st at beginning of row. Work even for 5 (5, 5 ½) inches. Next Row. Decrease 1 st at side edge. Work even until front measures same as back, bind off. LEFT FRONT: Slip sts from stitch holder on left hand needle to begin working from neck edge. Attach yarn and bind off 13 sts loosely for back of neck, drop yarn. With separate pair of needles cast on 30 (32, 34) sts for left front, * P 1, K 1, repeat from * across row. Next 3 Rows. Work even in pattern. 5th Row. Bind off 7 (7, 7) sts at beginning of row for back of neck. With shoulder needle work across remaining 23 (25, 27) sts. Work same as right front reversing the shaping. POCKET: Cast on 25 sts and work even in pattern for 6 inches, bind off. Work another pocket in same manner. Sew underarm and side seams. Sew back neck bands together and sew to back of neck. Sew pockets in position as illustrated. Crochet a row of s c across lower edge of fronts.
