From the Desk of

NSJ Camp Chief Hon. Allan L. Rellon

On behalf of the good people of my city, it is my great honor to welcome you all to the 16th National Scout Jamboree here in the beautiful City of Tagum. When we submitted our bid to host this prestigious event, our battlecry was simple, and that is to create a story of Tagumpay in Scouting. As we start the week-long Jamboree, it is my fervent wish that you take part in the creation of story of triumph. The holding of the 16th National Scout Jamboree in Tagum City is already a success story, judging by the number of registered participants. At 20,000 registered Scouts,

this is now among the largest Jamboree in the history of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines, tailing the record set during the 11th National Jamboree (34, 449) in 1998 and the 9th National Jamboree (25,000) in 1991. In the coming days, the activities we have prepared for you will underscore the prime importance of this event in molding your personality. Through this, I am sure that this will become your springboard for you to become active players in nationbuilding. Happy Jamboree to all of you! Tagum, Tagumpay!

Scouting: Education for Life

he mission of Scouting is to contribute to the education of young and old people through a value system based on the scout oath and scout law to help build a better world, where people are self-fulfilled as individuals and play a constructive role in society. Scouting serves as an effective avenue for values formation, responsible citizenship and community-building. The conduct of the 16th National Scout Jamboree in the sprawling Energy Park in Tagum City will once again highlight this mission. Anchored on the theme, “Peace and Development through Scouting,” the National Jamboree is expected to achieve the goal of promoting the highest quality of Scouting. At the end of the Jamboree, participants should be able to reorient themselves with the principles and method of Scouting. In that way, they are expected to develop core life skills and 21st century leadership capabilities through team building, cooperative learning, group dynamics, creative problem-solving and decision-making skills. Alongside with this, they are expected to keep abreast with the prevailing issues about the environment, human rights, health, education, culture and science and technology. In plain retrospection, the National Jamboree or any other Scouting activity in particular, is highly regarded as a real-world classroom. May the participating Boy Scouts of the 16th National Scout Jamboree realize the prime importance of Scouting because it is education for life.

MiscellaNEWS IN FOCUS: CAMP VENUE How much energy is present at the

Energy Park?

(And other facts about the central point of the Jamboree)

W

e are not talking here about the same energies you will get in your video games. We are talking here about the magnitude of energy revolving in our camp venue, with or without our activity. We will tell you why. The Energy Park is a vast area of greens that was once an idle and reserved land developed by the City Government of Tagum to become a social development complex as well as a public recreational park. Legally acquired by the local government, the sprawling 31-hectare area was originally envisioned as a government center where various national and regional government offices should be located to provide onestop services for the transacting public. Currently, the Energy Park houses the various facilities under the direct management of the City’s Agriculture Office such as Plant Nursery, Hydroponics, Soil and Leaf Laboratory. It is also the home of the Tagum City Division of the Department of Education, Department of Health’s Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). More importantly, the scenic landscape and spacious lawn that is the Energy Park is a site where camping and scouting activities are frequently held such as the 2014 One Mindanao Scouts Jamboree which was participated in by close to 3,800 participating scouts from 23 councils of Mindanao, the 2013 Eastern Mindanao Regional Rover Moot as well as the Provincial and City Scout Jamborees. As a jamboree site, the Energy Park has truly delivered in terms of hosting activities that are physically demanding such the Challenge Valley activities that were lined-up during these previous massive scouting activities.

Did you Know? The Energy Park tested the waters for a possible hosting of the 16th National Jamboree as early as 2013, when it hosted the Eastern Mindanao Regional Rover Moot and the 2014 One Mindanao Scouts Jamboree. The rest is history.

The coat of arms of the 16th National Scout Jamboree is created based on two elements: the Scout in Motion and Tagum City. The Scout in Motion is the disambiguation of the goals of the Scout Movement, an organization that actively engages and supports the young people in their personal growth and development, endowing them to make positive contributions to their communities. Tagum City, the host of the Jamboree, stands as an icon of development, progress and unity – dynamic reforms in local governance as a brand for public administration. The colors characterize energy, nature and renewal.
