ENERGY PARK, TAGUM CITY—The heavy downpour of rain did not dampen the spirit of more than 20,000 scouts and scouters who braved the torrent of raind during yesterday’s Grand Opening Ceremonies of the 16th National Scout Jamboree here. Streams of smiles were flashed by Scouts and Scouters as they made their way to the Grand Arena as Scouts and Scout Leaders gave snappy salute to the Camp Chief and other bigwigs of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines prior to the opening of the country’s largest scouting conclave. Vice President and BSP National President Jejomar C. Binay praised the Boy Scouts for staying throughout the whole duration of the opening program. Yesterday’s opening program was a show of unity of Scouts, as well as a manifestation of the strength of the scouting movement here in the country. This year’s National Jamboree is anchored on the theme “Peace and Development through Scouting.” Among the VIPs who joined the scouts during the opening program are Sarangani Rep.Emmanuel Pacquiao and Regional Director J.

Rizal C. Pangilinan of the World Scout Bureau-Asia Pacific Region. Aside from Philippine Contingents, visiting delegations from Nepal, Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan and South Korea also joined this year’s Jamboree. Due to bad weather, the supposed skydive exhibition of the Philippine Army Parachute Team did not push through as planned but the crowd was treated to a sevenminute pyromusical fireworks display after the unveiling of the Tagumpay Scouting Landmark. Tagum City Mayor and 16th NSJ Camp Chief Allan L. Rellon said he shared the pride of Tagumenyos is hosting this event which only takes place once in every four years. “Tagum City accepted this challenge, without hesitation and ready as a Boy Scout,” Rellon said. SCOUTS AS MESSENGERS

OF PEACE AND DEVELOPMENT

Scouts are the building blocks of our country that could withstand against the unassailable waves of challenges of our present and future. This Jamboree is their training ground. According to the World Organization of the Scout Movement, the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) is the 3rd largest National Scout Organization (NSO) of the Asia Pacific Region (APR) after

Indonesia and India, with 10 scouting regions serving a total of 118 local scout councils nationwide. With this continuous growth of scouting movement, many youths of our nation have transpired to become good citizens. Scouting has always envisioned to develop morally straight, disciplined, concerned, selfreliant citizens in the best tradition of World Scouting. As the training ground of

the youth, it brings forth a solidarity of brotherhood that transcends outside the scouting movement instilling in the youth love of God, for the country and for his fellowmen. As the 16th National Scout Jamboree takes place it is a constant move to continually inspire the youth to be the hope of our Mother land and as long as the Scouts stand still, they will forever be messengers of peace and development.

Dahon:

A Masterpiece of Camaraderie and Brotherhood Upon entering the sprawling Energy Park, one striking element that captures the attention of Scouts and Scouters is the Dahon Monument. The monument, officially called the Tagumpay Scouting Landmark, was unveiled in a fitting ceremony yesterday by no less than Vice President Jejomar Binay.

Behind this imposing structure is a genius. Ray Mujahid Ponce Millan , also known as Kublai Millan is a proud Mindanaoan, a painter, art photographer, digital artist, and a sculptor. He generated his own portal to show his interpretation in regards with the essence of scouting through his newly-made “Dahon” monument at the Energy Park where the 16th National Scout Jamboree takes place from October 24-30, 2015. The “Dahon” dearly embodies the love of the scouts to the environment. Its three budding leaves meaningfully mimicking the scout sign that represents the pillar of the scouts’ law; duty to others, to the country, and above all, duty to God. The leaves also symbolize the scouts as protectors of environment. This monument was erected KUBLAI MILAN to highlight the immeasurable contribution of the scouting movement towards nation-building as well as the commitment of the city of tagum to train its youth to become productive citizens of the community. This monument also celebrates the uniqueness of Tagum City’s diversity as a springboard in fostering peace, unity, friendship and world brotherhood through scouting. Pulling back the scheming chain of his crafts, Kublai Millan’s artisitic hands were the ones behind the prominent landmarks in Tagum City. To name his masterpieces in the city; the enormous “Risen Christ” at the Christ the King Cathedral, sculptures in New City Hall of Tagum displaying different faces of the Lumads and figures that depict the city as the Music Capital of Mindanao and the “Bangka” situated in Bincungan, Tagum City. No need to find a genius to define his art. His craftsmanship truly describes his passion with his field into his own perspectives, his mind’s mechanical impulsion in appreciating things into a work of art. To mention, all his contribution to the city landmarks, displays his immeasurable artistry. The Dahon monument will be the latest trademark in Tagum City which serves as the living proof that the 16th National Scout Jamboree was once held in Tagum City.
