Y H P O S O L I H P N DESIG My intent as a designer is always to create spaces and places that can bring people a higher quality of life. By combining my place making approach to design with my environmental ethics and practical thinking. I believe that a memorable place can be achieved with minimal impact on the natural environment. My design process is the progression of multiple ideas in reaction to a specific issue. These ideas are then questioned, evaluated, refined and adjusted to develop a final design solution that has been reviewd many times.

As part of my specialist design project i was required to come up with a vision to develop the Southbank of Leeds, The Park will help breath new life into the area by contributing to a unique high quality environment, which will in turn help the new and existing Communities meet the challenges of the future. The environmental improvements through the use of Green Roofs, and bus routes will encourage growth, economic development and significant investment in the area, by creating an attractive business and residential environment. The park will mainly focus upon mixed use properties with its focus being on commercial and residential rather than retail. The South bank of Leeds is a special place defined by its relationship to historical uses such as the Textile and brewing industries, a rich and exciting history which has left a great legacy of built heritage. through this design the legacy that it has previously brought can be celebrated and be brought into the future

As part of a team of ten students we constructed a winter garden, the concept behind this garden was to create an interesting cotrasting design with very geometiric shapes. This was a good project as it allowed me to understand how contractors use landscape architect drawings to construct and interpret what the designer is looking for. As a group we had to overcome several let downs from suppliers, I was highly commended by my tutor for my ability to keep the team ordered and calm in times of frustration.

As part of the Design and community module at Leeds Metropolitan University a small team of six students undertook a sensory garden at the Hollybank trust in Mirfield, West Yorkshire, we completed a disability awareness course to ensure we knew our clients requirements. We then held sessions for different service users from a planting exercise to a pampering session, this helped us come up with this design which is due to be completed in October 2011 and opened in Spring 2012. I am currently working on the detailed design for this project as an extra curricular activity.
