Thanks for the memories
AND so that’s it. After six years in the making, a week in a field in Windsor doesn’t actually sound that exciting does it? So we have to throw a few things into the mix. Such as 5,000 young people, 700 of the hardest working volunteers in the world, rock climbing, canoeing, crafts, global awareness and some of the biggest parties you are ever likely to experience. Once you add those to the essential ingredients of lasting friendships then you have created WINGS2009. But it isn’t the end really. Because although, the tents have been packed away and the week has passed, what you have done this week is achieve
something special. Whether it is your first Jamboree or your 101st, every one of you has had a new experience, met a new friend, tried a new activity, and have a new sense of responsibility. And that responsibility now is to keep it going. Keep in touch with the friends you have made, spread the word about WINGS and look for the next international experience to enjoy as a Guide or Scout. I’ve had the very real pleasure of leading the team that brought WINGS2009 to Berkshire. And this week, I’ve been out and about witnessing your experience and revelling in the life changing moment.
Because WINGS2009 has united us as an organisation, as a group, as friends for life. It has been the most fantastic journey ever. We are all one team, from the youngest participant to the most seasoned leader. And that is the great thing that unites us all. Scouting and Guiding gives us the chance to shape the future. Have a fantastic and safe journey home, whether it is just down the road or back to the other side of the world. And remember part of you will always have a place in a field in Windsor. But it wasn’t quite that simple was it. Sam Knight Camp Leader

THANK you to everyone who has contributed to the newspaper, your input really makes a difference. Sorry if your birthday request, story or photograph hasn’t made the final cut. It’s not down to anything other than the rush to deadline and the Editor’s forgetful nature.
