MATCH REPORT P&TG FC 3– 4 Woodley Town

I am not going to dwell on the opening game of the season with many words. It was a disappointing afternoon and it did not go to script. Match Reports Hellenic League Roundup PREMIER DIVISION The opening day of the season saw a grand total of forty goals scored in the Premier Division. Binfield with Ian Davies netting twice, led the way with a 6-1 defeat of Wootton Bassett Town, closely followed by Ascot Utd who won 5-1 away at Brimscombe & Thrupp, Daryl Mclean registering a hat-trick. Kidlington put five past Holyport without reply with doubles for Ryan Curtin and Charlie Cassettari. Last season’s early leaders, Reading Town, slipped to an opening day 1-3 home defeat to Highworth Town, T J Bohane, Highworth’s top goal scorer last season opening his account for the season very early on. Oxford City Nomads similarly went down 1-2 at home to Shrivenham, Matt Bennett scoring both of Shrivenham’s goals. Highmoor Ibis got their season off to a winning start with a 2-0 win at Thame Utd. Flackwell Heath beat Thatcham Town 3-2, Gavin James netting twice for Flackwell. Last season’s runners up, Ardley Utd got off to a strong start with a 31 defeat of Cheltenham Saracens, with Troy Bryan amongst the goal scorers. Newly promoted Milton Utd picked up a well-earned point in a 2-2 draw away at Bracknell Town. Shane Cooper-Clark scored twice for the home team with Adam Bruce and Rob Joyce replying for Milton Utd Abingdon Utd and Newbury fought out a goalless draw.
DIVISION ONE EAST Didcot Town were the day’s highest scorers across the League winning 8-0 away at Chalfont Wasps. Arran Gray scored twice. Further goals were scored by Bryn Ingram, Lewis Noble, Ross McDonald, Tom Hoskins, David Murphy and Taylor James. Last season’s bottom side, Woodley Town laid down a marker for the new season, winning 4-3 away at Penn & Tylers Green. Steve Campbell netted a hat trick with Adam Cashin-Murray also scoring. Chris Hurst netted twice for Penn & Tylers Green with Nial O’MeallyNewell also scoring and edging the battle of the double barrel surnames! Brackley Town Development made a winning start to life in the Uhlsport Hellenic League beating Burnham 2-1 with goals from Vjorn Sultana and Charlie Wise. Sam Ekundayo scored for Burnham. Headington Amateurs went down 2-1 at home to Wokingham & Embrook who scored through Keen and Elliott Rushforth. Shaun Jacobs scored for Headington. Old Woodstock Town secured a point in their first match in Division One East having transferred over from the West division during the close season. Old Woodstock scored through Aaron Posey and Jack Dunmall. Grant Kemp and Asa Povey scored for Henley Town. Rayners Lane edged out Chinnor winning 3-2 with two goals from Denis Nortey and a goal from Lewis Lavender. John Mcmahon and Craig Faulconbridge scored for Chinnor. Finchampstead won 2-0 away at Easington Sports with goals from Freddie Barren and Nick Payne.
