FEBRUARY 2011 - NEWSLETTER KEEPING SAFE

BRAIN POP

A safety issue which has come to light again recently is that there are pedestrians moving between the school and the car park who are not using the pathway which runs around the outside of the school and over the little bridge. Please could you use the footpath around the side of the school to prevent a possible accident in the bus turning area. Thank you.

We are currently undertaking a trial of BrainPOP on the school learning platform. BrainPOP is an educational website with hundreds of short Flash-based movies for children aged 6 and above. These cover the subjects of mathematics, technology, health, science, social studies, arts & music, and English. The aim of the site is to help to explain different ideas to the children. Having had it demonstrated to us at the recent BETT (British Educational Training and Technology) Show, we wanted to assess how useful a tool this may be for our children – the trial, however, is the American version. Simply visit the learning platform at start.earlsoham.suffolk.sch.uk , log in and click on the BrainPOP link. All children in Year 3 and above, who have returned the internet user agreement, should have a password to enable access to the learning platform. If your child (in any year group) hasn’t got a log in password, and would like to access the resources, please let the school office know as soon as possible.

FILMCLUB The first three films will be: 04/2/11 SHREK – FOREVER AFTER (U) 5.00pm finish 11/2/11 – MONSIEUR HULOT’S HOLIDAY (U) This is a black and white film very much in the style of Mr Bean – see Filmclub website for more details. 5.15pm finish 18/2/11 – MONSTERS INC. (U) 5.00pm finish
