BRIEF 4: WHO WEB THAT? CAMBRIDGE VINTAGE COMPUTER CATALOG & OTHER WORK
3
For this project I began looking into the idea of how the web communicates and disseminates within production within graphic design. After discussing this within a wider context I decided to have a tutorial with Mark and other indvidiuals within class to see where I could push and develop my ideas to make them not only avaliable to a wider audience but so I could find other ways to explore the realities, ambiguities & uncertainties of professional practice within this topic. From this, a relevant question came up on which I had to ask myself within this of What would we have done if we had vital technology in place fifty years ago? This allowed me to look at the topic of ‘Chinese Whispers’ and the manipluation of book design within other individuals work through book design. From the manipluation of book design you can see experiments of ideas and concepts using different technology which allows me to try different software and further develop my ideas into external contexts.

Furthermore, further developed the ideas of practice and how my work would then be contexutalised within real life practice. After finally finizialsing an idea and practice I decided to take it upon myself to look at an old vintage computer museum who stock the earliest computer to date and the latest computer to date to see if technology could be catergorised within taxonomy and also relates back to the Pitt Rivers trip that was done in first year of my course. This allowed me to put real life situations such as what was explored within earlier stages within the course and apply them to this situation which pushed me to further my develop and knowledge. Within this looking at Vladimir Arkhipov’s work of: Home-Made Contemporary russian folk artifacts allowed me to get a jist of what kind of layout concept I was going to go for this book that I wanted to create. However, trying to find a book to create for vintage computers was such a niche market that I decided to contact a vintage computer museum within sussex which within image 7 & 8 you can see my response and their response. Finally, within image 9 their is currently a mock layout of how I would like to design it. I still have to take the photographs and many others things but since this is just a ‘first draft’ i’m not going into much more detail as this has already been discussed with yourself (mark).
