The

fleet

Fluid lines, streamlined bow: the exterior lines of our ships reflect the spirit of a subtly revisited nautical theme. Aboard, our guests truly enjoy the relaxed elegance of the atmosphere and experience a different and exclusive type of cruise, and a concept of travel that is intimate, and luxurious…

The PONANT EXPLORERS

Enjoy the experience in another way

The PONANT EXPLORERS are innovative, designed for expeditions and easy to manoeuvre, so we can continue to design trips to ever-more exceptional destinations. You will enjoy new travel experiences and find the exceptional conditions of comfort and service that are our signature, even in the most extreme regions. All ships are equipped with state-of-the-art technology. These new stars of the PONANT fleet are fitted with a movable marina platform, enabling guests to swim and engage in other activities directly from the ship. A submersible mini-port provides easy access to a number of nautical activities (kayaking, paddle boarding and more).

A luxurious, intimate and refined atmosphere

128 metres long, and just 88 staterooms, each with a private balcony, 4 suites, each with a plate glass window and private terrace… The smaller capacity creates an intimate atmosphere, while the 110 crew members provide professional and attentive service. As for the warm and contemporary interior design, it is directly inspired by the colours seen in PONANT’s dream destinations, punctuated with ethnic touches.

Blue Eye

In a world exclusive, each of the ships of the PONANT EXPLORERS series is equipped with an underwater guest lounge, called Blue Eye, located within the hull beneath the water line. Entrusted to architect Jacques Rougerie, who is deeply passionate about the sea. This major innovation focuses on three innovative concepts: biomimetic, innovative underwater vision, global listening. Thanks to hydrophones, that are integrated beneath the keel, the natural symphony of the deep sea is thus captured across a five kilometer radius.

A tribute to great explorers

Le Lapérouse, Le Champlain, Le Bougainville, Le Dumont-d'Urville, Le Bellot, Le Jacques-Cartier.... Our newest stars of the fleet pay tribute to great French explorers and sail in the wake of these men, who set off on adventures beyond the boundaries of the known world in search of new lands. This is a respectful salute from PONANT, the only cruise line to fly the French flag and sail to lands that are little-known and inaccessible to larger vessels.

Exceptional design

These are ships on an intimate scale, perfectly adapted to extreme destinations, designed to allow all guests to make the most of the breathtaking ocean and shore views. On board, an elegant selection of fine materials in discreet and soothing shades of taupe, grey, white, and natural wood gives these ships a unique style that is both contemporary and inviting.

Small is beautiful

Limited capacity, secluded destinations: at a time when giant cruise ships abound, PONANT has chosen to remain true to its philosophy by developing an ultra-modern but always moderately-sized fleet. Thus Le Boréal, L'Austral, Le Soléal boast only 132 Staterooms and Suites, 122 for Le Lyrial. The perfect blend of luxury and cutting-edge technology.

Commitment for the environment

Because we are convinced that a responsible approach is required in our quest for excellence, PONANT chose to equip its sisterships with ecologically sensitive equipment. As a result, they have all been awarded the international “Clean Ship” label.

Brand-new itineraries, inaccessible up until now

PONANT polar cruises are taking a new direction with Le CommandantCharcot, the first PC2-class luxury polar cruise ship capable of sailing into the very heart of the ice. Thanks to this remarkable new ship, mythical destinations like the Geographic North Pole or the Bellingshausen Sea are now available to PONANT guests. You will be the privileged few setting sail aboard a new kind of luxury cruise ship, one that is shaped for polar exploration. For the first time, you will reach the ultimate level of adventure.

The world’s first LNG luxury polar exploration vessel

Le Commandant-Charcot has been designed to minimize the environmental impact of travel in the furthest latitudes. Propelled by electricity and engines running on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), this vessel is fitted with the latest environmental protection technology, thus limiting its fine particle emissions. This major innovation is a mark of PONANT’s commitment to sustainable and responsible tourism. It will also host a scientific research laboratory equipped to study the ecosystems and biodiversity of this polar setting in perpetual change.

Exceptional design, comfort and refinement

For the design and decoration of Le Commandant-Charcot, PONANT commissioned two internationally renowned architecture agencies, the studio of Jean-Philippe Nuel and Wilmotte & Associés. The atmosphere of the ship is designed to be in harmony with the environment. Equipped with just 135 staterooms including 31 suites with balconies and outside views, Le Commandant-Charcot welcomes you in an intimate and refined atmosphere. Outstanding gastronomy, relaxation in the indoor pool surrounded by its winter garden, or in the heated outdoor Blue Lagoon with a stunning view of the ice floe…

A technological revolution

To design this exceptional polar vessel, PONANT joined forces with Aker Arctic, global specialist in ice-sailing technologies. The PC2 polar hull of this hybrid ship was specially developed with an innovative design, making it the most powerful High Polar Exploration Vessel in the world. As a result, Le Commandant-Charcot will be able to achieve unrivalled sailing performances, even in the most difficult conditions

imposed by these challenging environments.
