icole and I met at Wake Forest University. After Nicole graduated, she stayed at Wake Forest to complete her MA in Psychology - then to West Virginia University for her doctoral degree in Life-span Developmental Psychology. I moved to Charlotte for a year before returning to Wake Forest for my MBA. In 1997, we finally got married and moved to Pocatello, Idaho for Nicole's first faculty position at Idaho State University. We really enjoyed our time there, but always knew we would return to the Southeast at some point.

We moved to Yorktown in 2004 when Nicole joined the faculty in Psychology at Christopher Newport University. Our daughters were 3 and 1 when we moved here. So, though they were born in Idaho, Virginia is home to them. Nicole has loved being a part of the CNU community and is beginning her tenth year as Dean of Natural and Behavior Sciences. I joined a semiconductor company in Idaho and was able to transition to a regional sales role when we moved. After 22 years, I changed industries in 2020 and now I am a Mortgage Banker with Atlantic Bay Mortgage Group. We are getting used to being empty nesters. Mia is a rising senior at Wake Forest University (following in our footsteps), and Marisa is a rising Sophomore, charting her own path at UVA. The house is quiet when they are away, and it is so great when they come home. In our time away from work, we enjoy being active, primarily CrossFit, biking, and hiking. We love golf and wish we had more time to relax on the course. We both enjoy playing and do our best to play in the Nine and Wines. You also often will see us in the lounge on Thursdays listening to music and enjoying the company. We just celebrated our 25th Anniversary and life is Good! James River Country Club

JRCC River Ratz Swim Team Season Highlights The 2022 River Ratz season began with a lot of promise and excitement and ended with bright smiles, excellent sportsmanship, records and scholarships - a success all around! We're happy to share some of our season highlights below: 1. We had 43 swimmers this year. 2. The team was thrilled to welcome 10 new swimmers. Harper Watkins made City Meet in her first season and McKenzie Heidenthal and Dylan Kennedy each dropped over 25 seconds in multiple events! 3. The team had 22 swimmers qualify for City Meet. Ann Chappell Ellington, Alivia Minson, and Hayden Watkins medaled in every event they swam! Our girls medley relay (Bentley Manning, Ann Chappell Ellington, Alivia Minson and Alex Rose) took 6th place! 4. All the 13-14 boys qualified for City Meet! Great job Logan Cone, Jamie Dornan, Paul Gere, John Hankins, and Connor Manning! 5. The team had a blast with Donut Days before home meets. The kids did a wonderful job making posters and shakers to cheer on their friends. Swim team fun days were full of water balloon fights and relays! We finished our season with an Olympic Day and a Float Day. 6. Clayton Whetstine, Alivia Minson, and Hayden Watkins went undefeated in the White Division this season. 7. Since we are a small team our 9-10 girls and boys, 11-12 girls, and 13-14 girls all swam an extra event each meet. They stepped up each and every meet to help our team score points! We also had to rely on our 8&U’s to help us with our relays. Chase Hobert, Jameson Minson and Hayden Watkins did an amazing job helping our team!

JRCC River Ratz Swim Team Season Highlights 8. Kyleigh Tankard broke 2 records at Willow Oaks, 2 records at George Wythe and 2 records at home. Hayden Watkins broke a JRCC record and Clayton Whetstine broke 1 record at Willow Oaks, 3 at George Wythe and 1 at home. 9. The coaches received numerous sportsmanship compliments from other teams. JRCC swimmers did a wonderful job shaking hands and being polite to all swimmers. All the kids on the team worked hard and raced hard. Their dedication and love of JRCC is evident with every swim. We are sad that this is our last season with our 4 seniors/assistant coaches, Ann Chappell Ellington, Megan Miller, Kyleigh Tankard and Clayton Whetstine, but we wish them well and know they will make us proud by continuing their JRCC competitive spirit and good sportsmanship. Ann Chappell Ellington and Kyleigh Tankard - GPSA Scholarships Ann Chappell Ellington - Swimming for JMU Megan Miller - Studying for NC State Kyleigh Tankard - Swimming at UNC Clayton Whetstine - Swimming for Georgia Thank you to Coach Jihan and the swim team parents for all of your support for our River Ratz!

What a wonderful season we had at James River Country Club! We are sad to see the kiddos go, but look forward to another summer filled with joy and laughter as we foster education through play in the young minds of these sweet kids! Here are a few photos from our last week of summer camp. We can’t wait to see all of the new and familiar faces of our little friends next year!
