Member of the Month SAM ROSE
I am a graduate of James Madison University and attended Harvard University’s Executive Leadership AMP
program. I have worked as an executive at Ferguson Enterprises for 30 years. I currently serve on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club of the Virginia Peninsula and Newport News Education Foundation.
My wife Tasha and I reside in the Riverside area of Newport News with our three kids, Cooper, Alex, and Harper and our two dogs, Tyson and Abby. We have two grown children, Tyler and Madison, who still reside in the area with our grandkids. Tasha is a graduate of Virginia Tech and currently serves on the Board of Trustees for Hampton Roads Academy.

I am very active in Club activities, I participate in the golf tournaments, and even won my ight in the last member guest. Tyler, Madison, Alex and Harper have or are all swimmers for the JRCC swim team. Harper is an avid tennis player. Tasha serves on the swim team boosters and I am the chair for the Member Guest Tournament this year. We both enjoy playing pickle ball and twilight golf. When not at the Club, we are usually on the boat with friends!
M EMBERSHIP Nickolai was born in Perm, Russia in 1991.
He was adopted from a Siberian orphanage two years later by an American couple and moved to the United States. He received his BFA in sculpture from the Virginia Commonwealth N I C KO L A I W A L KO University in 2014. Walko started to use masking tape not for its original intentions to mask off certain areas for paint to cover but more so to produce high contrast, intricate, and stylized works of art. He was introduced to the medium at an early stage in his career. At the same time, he also began experimenting with copper. Walko has always retained a passion for sculpture and the exploration of resources. His artwork is heavily in uenced by anatomy, archaeology, aviation, history, and mythology. He desires to portray forms, gures, and landscapes through these non-traditional materials. Acrylic and latex paint also plays an important role in the work by providing a strong background color or blocks of color to help give contrast to the black masking tape. In a way the tape acts as a skin and the xacto knife, the scalpel. Cutting the tape and pulling sections up reveals the subject matter below, whether it be an artifact, a landscape, or actual anatomy. He produces these works like a surgeon and removing the skin (tape) provides access for the public to view the images beneath in such stylized diagrams or scenes. Through much exploration and research, the work is always evolving.

M EMBERSHIP Membership Highlight A Letter from Walter Price Dear Conrad, The Club did a truly great job in hosting my celebration of 100 years. The food was delicious - hot foods were hot and cold foods were cold. I wanted to especially commend Kristin for all of her valuable help. She was always available, pleasant, capable, and reassuring when I got a little anxious over a supposed problem. Everyone working at the actual party did a wonderful job and I deeply appreciate their efforts. Thank you for knowing how to make things work smoothly! Sincerely, Walter Price
