Lone Stone Farms Invitational Female Sale

Page 1

Welcome to Lone Stone Farms Invitational Female Sale It’s hard to believe that this will be the fifth female sale that Lone Stone Farms has hosted. We could not continue to do so without our faithful contributors and we sure appreciate their commitment to bringing top end cattle to our sale. Never will we forget the year 2020 with all its negative happenings and weather conditions. But one very bright spot for us is our cow herd. Despite all the extra work our cattle are, they will help pull us out of tougher times. We are so thankful that Nathan has the youth and energy to keep this herd moving forward. Day in, day out, he’s feeding, treating, moving cattle, fixing corrals. No farmer works harder than those who raise livestock. We don’t say it enough, Nathan and Alisha, thank you so much for all you do here at Lone Stone Farms. It looks as good as it does because of you. We raise bulls. We sell about 80 per year. Why are we mentioning this in our heifer sale catalog? Each time we look at a female we are evaluating if she has the potential to produce the next bull that we need for our bull sale offering. The size, capacity and structural correctness that is genetically passed on. Here is a quote from one of Lonnie’s instructors from Old College; “The more feminine the female the more masculine the male.” This year we have put together some of the most feminine females we have ever produced with the potential for you to produce some of your most saleable bulls. There have been many questions in our minds as to how the day of our female sale will look. At this point we are planning on this year’s event to look exactly like it has in the past, obviously with the recommended health protocols in place. We will make any necessary notifications on our facebook page if there are any unforeseen changes. If you are unable to attend this year’s sale you are certainly welcome to view the offering prior to the sale or contact our capable sales staff to help with selections.

Sales Management Comments Welcome to the 5th annual Lone Stone Farms and Friends Female Sale! The sale, as always, will be in the awesome sale barn at Lone Stone. This is a must attend event for some great hospitality and an excellent set of front pasture females to sort through. 2020 has been a very interesting year! Great crops in many areas yet complete wrecks in others. One thing I’m sure we can all agree on is that it was absolutely one of the best harvest seasons in the last 5 years! A fall that has let most operations catch up on the the “to do” lists. What a great feeling! With all the crazy things going on in the world today, we are all very blessed to be involved in Agriculture, strong and balanced! The “Cashmere Affair”, is the lead section of the sale! This year‘s highlight will be the 4 polled Cashmere heifer calves from some truly elite mother cows! This is the first offspring from the $58,000 high selling JNR Cashmere to sell at Lone Stone. Nathan, Alisha and the kids have these heifers halter broke and super quiet. You will also get the opportunity to purchase some embryos and semen from Cashmere. This will be a great time to jump into high-end polled genetics. Lone Stone Farms again offers the front end of their Simmental and Red Angus heifer pen. The polled influence is always popular in the Simmental section and highly sought after. The Red Angus heifers are always some of the most powerful females the breed has to offer. It truly amazes me year-after-year how affordable theses high-performance Red Angus females are at Lone Stone. Always great value! KSL Simmental have stepped up this year with a much larger string of heifers. Brad and Keagan will have females representing all sectors of their program. The Kuntz Sonic females really stood out this summer when I toured the pastures at KSL. Winter and spring calves are available, so what a great opportunity. Diamond T Simmentals as always has a strong set of front pasture females. The females sired by DT Big Rig and Callahan really stood out this summer. Most of these heifers are bred early to Rugged R Cavill, which should be interesting! Swantewitt Simmentals offer another group of powerful females. The Bremmekamp family always brings the top end of their heifer pen. Females are bred and raised in true ranch conditions. Dwajo Angus will have another solid set of breds. Dwayne, Joanne and Jesse do an amazing job raising functional, highly productive cattle. It’s always very impressive how their bull pen is accepted by the commercial cattlemen. These females just go out and work for their new owners. Hazel Bluff Angus has 2 good breds this year to follow up last year’s outstanding offering.

The EPDs in the catalog are in the following format: Simmental Average EPDs: CE 6.9 BW 3.9 WW 74.8 YW 109.9 Milk 28.6 MCE 3.9 MWWT 66.0 Red Angus Average EPDs: CE +2.5 BW +1.2 WW +36 YW +61 MCE +5.6 MILK +23 Black Angus Average EPDs: CE +3.4 BW +2.1 WW +47 YW +83 MCE +7.1 MILK +22

Soon after purchasing Cashmere, he went down to Bow Valley during the coldest winter weather in decades. After the draw was complete, he came home to a group of 30+ females. His prowess as a breeder was duly noted. We watched him continue to grow and mature over the year until his calves started coming. We loved the lower birth weights, solid color pattern and overall balance the calves were showing. And it wasn’t just us, as our fellow Cashmere breeders were expressing that they liked their calves too. So here we are offering genetics on Cashmere at our annual female sale. Our fellow breeders were offered the opportunity to consign progeny or embryos at our “Cashmere Affair”. We personally had 24 heifer calves and 9 bulls born here at Lone Stone. We committed to putting 4 of those open heifer calves in the sale and we have spent the summer making that selection. These are the best 4 open Cashmere heifers out of our top cows. Nathan has got these girls completely halter broke and they are exceptionally quiet. Brett & Naomi Keet have stepped up to put in an embryo package and we are offering 3 Canadian drawn semen packages.

We would like to acknowledge Jerry & Nicole Repka of JNR Farms for their vision in breeding this exceptional outcross bull. We want to thank the following breeders who also saw our vision and bought semen packages within hours of our purchase; KSL Simmentals, Langer Fleckvieh, Keet Simmentals, Rich Mc Farms Ltd., Oakview Simmentals, Vaughn Gibbons and JNR Farms.

This is 50D’s 3rd calf, having produced 2 bull calves that have been good enough to make our bull sales. Haley has always had a very quiet disposition, even before her halter breaking. Using Cashmere on a powerhouse horned cow was a good decision.

She was carrying a little black coupon in her and is definitely the reason Lonnie decided he wanted a little black Simmental herd that was genetically ½ Fleckvieh. Samba 8B has only had females and 2 have been sold in past sales. Because we were selling this calf we decided to keep her 2019 model for ourselves. Samba 81H is the largest structured of the four Cashmere females. Look for her to be a very productive female.

She is a perfect specimen of what a female should look like. Two half sisters of Lynelle 76G are working in our herd. She looks so much like her dam did at her age. Pear shaped front to back with large rib capacity and standing on a big foot. Even with a March birth date she will be one of the first of her peers to calve.

Starting to see many duplicate numbers pop up on the CSA website. Pilar 3G was flushed at the age of 14 after having 12 natural calves, and produced 101 #1 eggs in five flushes. Our last flush was only three eggs and Donny Miller said we had literally flushed all the eggs out and she was done. We sold a daughter out of this girl’s dam in last year’s sale to the Doerksons at LaCrete, AB.

She is very smooth, wide topped and a very respectable size. And if you like a star face, she’s got that too.

KSL Simmentals It’s with great pleasure we get to welcome you all to this year’s event. We always feel so spoiled when our great friends, the Browns, invite us back for another year. The line up of females in this sale is second to none across the country, that being Angus or Simmental. Our offering this year is larger than we have ever sold, but exciting and stronger than ever. The six January heifers are big and broody, with this year’s inclusion of two powerhouse red females. The six May born and bred females come from the heart of our spring calving program and, much like they have been selected and bred for, should lay down and calve out on pasture with ease. The fullblood heifers are all bred to our homo polled calving ease bull, Keet’s Ferrous, who has been working like a charm in the heifer pens for us. We couldn’t be more excited to see you all in Westlock come sale day, and if you can’t make it in person we have great confidence in Mark and his staff at DLMS, or the fantastic Transcon Livestock crew. Sincerely Keegan and Brad

Welcome back to the Lone Stone Farms Invitational Female Sale. Once again we are so excited to be a part of this wonderful group of people and offer some of our top bred heifers. You may notice reading through our breeding exposure dates that a few of the heifers have been exposed to multiple sires. We used a yearling bull this spring and were unsure he was breeding so rather than risking it we made the decision to pull him and put out one of our CFFS Open Range sons. Most of these heifers we were able to get observed breeding dates on however if there are any concerns when the calves are born we will cover the cost of DNA parentage testing. All heifers have been vaccinated with Express 5, Vision 8 with Somnugen, and Presponse HM as well as received their first dose of Scour Guard and dewormed with Bimectin.

We have sold more bulls out of him than any other herd sire and we still have so many females related to him in our herd because he was such a versatile, successful bull. Genevieve’s cow family is one that consistently produces offspring with excellent pigmentation, something we’re sure she’ll carry forward.

This 2020 has been a weird year to say the least - Covid 19, people not getting along, some areas too wet, some to dry, but that would take a whole page to discuss. The constant that stays the same is good cattle and the good cattlemen that raised them. We have brought a strong set of bred heifers this year. They are bred to some new bulls that we bought -- NRA Merchant 79G, calving ease with some performance, Country Lane Sensation 6F, and HF Hostage 170G. We can’t wait to see how calves turn out off of these exciting new sires. So please come out and join us at Lone Stone Invitational to see all the good cattle from all the consignors and have a good old galley wag about the cattle and any other thing you would like to discuss. For any information on Dwajo Cattle please call Dwayne 780-305-4209 Jesse 780-305-284-3490 or Joanne 780-305-4958 (her phone might be on).

Our offering is a bit smaller this year, as we had some issues with one of our bulls during breeding season. Although we only have two Black Angus heifers on offer they come out of strong maternal cow families that have been at Hazel Bluff for quite some time now. We thank the buyers and bidders that have supported us in the past, and look forward to catching up with you at the sale. Please feel welcome to stop by at the farm anytime to look at our offering.

Rosette 65G is out of an Agent dam. The Agent females have the most consistently well shaped udders in our herd and it looks like they are going to stay that way as they age. Rosette is moderate framed and very correct in her structural makeup. Probably going to be the workhorse of the group.

She is a very powerful daughter of Top Secret, a bull bought from Mar Mac Farms that we only got two calf crops from. Alexa 55G would be a heifer that would rival any bred female being offered for sale this fall out of any herd. A pretty bold statement, but one I feel confident to make. I think you could breed this female to pretty much any bloodline and get a very marketable calf.

This is probably the heaviest heifer in our Red Angus offering. The dam is a big cow, but she has no problem paying for herself. EPD wise, Sujilass 65G is at the top of the heap for performance, being the highest indexing female in her peer group. She stands on a big foot, just like her 10 year old dam. Top Secret was purchased as a performance bull and he certainly did his job.

Parent Verified. The Redman daughters are a proven entity in our herd. They show good feet and tucked up udders with small teats. Because she is a Redman daughter we bred her to Fireside and it looks like she caught to that breeding. Fireside is a bull we bought in partnership with Philip Driedger of La Crete. He needed a bull that would work on heifers and his cow herd. We picked him out together and got him bought at the Leewenbergh Angus Bull Sale in March. Looking very much forward to what his calves will be like come January.
