Welcome everyone to the 43rd annual Transcons’ Simmsational Simmental Sale. Wow 43 years!!! That is quite an accomplishment. Some consignors have been here the whole 43 years while other consignors are relatively new. All these consignors have some things in common, the love of Simmental cattle, and quality. Every consignor is bringing cattle they are proud of and will improve any herd. Thanks to every consignor for reaching deep into your herd to keep Simmsational a top-notch sale.

Auctioneer: Brent Carey

With its high maternal traits, performance, great temperament and carcass characteristics, Simmental have become highly sought after in today’s feedlot industry. With the higher prices being established for the heavier calves in the fall rush, the commercial cattlemen are wanting Simmental influence in their herd more than ever.

Ringmen: Cody Haney Mark Stock Scott Johnstone

Simmsational has become a true meeting spot. Its central location in Western Canada, just minutes west of Moose Jaw, makes it easily accessible to so many people, buyers and sellers alike. Because of its location it has become what we call the “Drop off Depot” for transferring cattle from other sales that have already taken place. Feel free to utilize this and take the opportunity to view the Simmsational cattle.

Welcome to Simmsational 2020 at Johnstone Auction Mart, Moose Jaw, SK on Thursday, December 10th, the 43rd edition. Wow! What a year 2020 has been, with Covid-19, elections, riots and protests. A year ourselves and our grandchildren will never forget. We are so lucky to be in agriculture, as it hasn’t influenced our operations nearly as much as some of the other sectors of the economy. It has put food in the forefront again as it should be. We spent 3-4 days this spring in Yuma, AZ and it was an eerie feeling to go to the grocery store and see the meat shelves empty and, of course, toilet paper, LOL! I think the world has again realized how important the Agriculture Industry is. We are consigning, again, as usual, 10 bred heifers right from the top of our pen, plus, this year, a special embryo lot of IPU Pocahontas 2Y and the $150,000 R Plus Yuma 9087G bull. Our bred heifers are headed up by 4 outstanding homo polled, black heifers from some of our best black cow families. The reds consist of two excellent IPU Lieutenant 24E daughters, both going back to the Pocahontas 105L cow and the third is an excellent Black Gold Approval daughter. All three are homo polled and bred to the exciting, homo polled, calving ease, red baldy bull, WLB Top Tier 456G, the $52,500 top selling bull at the WLB Livestock bull sale this spring that ourselves, Circle 7 Ranches and Bohrson Marketing purchased. Again we’ll have 3 really good Fullblood heifers, dark cherry red, one polled, and all bred to the homozygous polled Full Fleck bull, Fairview Philosophy 99E. These heifers are all AI bred to calving ease bulls and have no exposures and all are bred in April. Come and join us at the Johnstone Auction Mart on Thursday, December 10th for the 43rd Simmsational Sale. There will be some great cattle on offer, a great group of consignors and some food, drink and hospitality. From all of us at LaBatte Simmentals we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Safe New Year. Barry P.S. Grandkids are all doing great. They’re healthy, happy and full of energy. Their sports activities have been slowed down a little this year. Our oldest granddaughter, Emry, has taken a keen interest in horses and Brodyn, as usual, is a big help around the farm. The four youngest keep Grandma and Grandpa entertained and happy.

Homozygous Polled. We think this 56U daughter is very special and she is a hard one to part with. She has an excellent pedigree being sired by the legend, Springcreek Liner 56U, and out of a very good El Tigre daughter going back to our matron cow, Ultra Temptress Clair 12R. 31G has mother cow written all over her. She’s so broody, deep and angular, very nice fronted and setting up an excellent “56U” udder. She’s the kind that when she’s out in the pasture and you see her from a distance you say, WOW, who’s that. She just has that presence about her. Mated to the WLB Top Tier 456G bull should be an added bonus. Whether a heifer or bull, the resulting calf should be an added bonus. Could even be a baldy.

This is an excellent Priority daughter going back to the Pocahontas 105L cow family. Her black El Tigre mother is a dandy, deep ribbed and easy keeping, just like this heifer is. She’s so soft made, pear shaped and setting up an excellent udder. Her sire has made quite a mark at our place. Priority was the sire of the $30,000 open baldy heifer that sold in our spring Bull and Female Sale this spring to KT Ranches. He also sired very saleable bull calves and many of them baldies. 18G is bred early to the calving ease bull, Skors High Roller. She has an excellent set of EPDs and has brood cow written all over her.

Desi 9154W was our pick out of the Remington Cattle Co. dispersal and she was the pick of Willie Altenburg’s open heifers purchased by Remington. She has not disappointed as she’s an easy doing, great uddered female that we have had in our donor program. We have two full sisters to 109G in our herd, both red. This heifer reminds of us the Lot 1 heifer in many ways, stylish, pear shaped, lots of capacity and very broody.

With the Covid-19 there was no actual live show but they had a virtual show where she went on to be Champion Simmental Heifer and overall Reserve Grand Champion of the show. She’s really nice made, stylish, long, has depth and is setting up a really beautiful udder that’s level and has wide separation and small teats. Bred to Top Tier, you could have lots of fun on the show road next summer with her and her calf. A lot of opportunity in this heifer.

We have two of her daughters already in the herd and she raised an outstanding polled Canon son this year that will be one of the feature Fullblood bulls in our spring Bull Sale. He’s a BEE Phantom son that’s cherry blood red, homo polled, full Fleck, has style, muscle and calving ease. We were quite interested in this bull when he sold. IPU 52N Pocahontas 2Y has been admired by many cattlemen and most of them said she is one of the best red cows they have seen. A few years back, when we sold a large group of cows to Meadow Acres Simmentals, we chose picks back and forth. I had first pick and it was Pocahontas 2Y. She’s sired by the legendary Springcreek Liner 56U bull and her dam is sired by Hart Red Chief. These two bulls, Red Chief and 56U, have sired the best cows to ever walk our pastures. Their females have great udders and capacity and they know how to raise herd bulls. Add in now R Plus Yuma 9087G. He was the $150,000 lead off bull at Marlin’s sale this spring who many think was one of the very best bulls to sell this spring, if not the best. He’s hetero black and homo good. What would a red bull calf be worth, or black, combining two of the breed’s great breeding pieces in the industry today? There’s a world of opportunity in these embryos.

Bred April 07 to Boundary Strut 155G PG1275858. Preg tested safe. No exposure. 76G is a deep sided, broad topped, loose made beef heifer that we really like. The picture speaks for itself. She is a dark red daughter of our walking herdsire, Tribute. The Tribute progeny are soft made, easy doing cattle that are very sound moving. 76G’s dam is a blazed face, hardworking cow that always brings in a top calf. She is a pleasure to have around. 76G is mated to our new heifer bull, Strut 155G. We are anxious to see his first calves. It is only because we are committed to selling some of our best at Simmsational that we offer what we do.

3G is a big, powerful, performance heifer that maintains a very attractive profile and soundness that aren’t always an easy combination to find. She is the kind you can build a cow family around and will also pump out those performance bulls the cowboys love. We didn’t get a lot of progeny off her sire, IPU One In Million, due to injury issues but the ones we did get are big time producers. Her dam is one of the MRL Walk The Line daughters we like so much. Thick bodied, functional cows that flat out work. 3G’s dam has had two bulls through our bull sale and has an excellent Equity sired bull calf for 2020.

She is moderate framed but has some extra base width and bone, complemented by a nicely made front end and beautiful hair coat. 14G’s dam was bred in the highly respected Robb Farms program and purchased out of the Checkers sale as one of the feature bred heifers that day. We unfortunately lost her first calf to illness, her second was a bull through our sale and this beautiful female is her third effort.

This picturesque female will catch your attention as soon as you walk in the pen. That sharp front end combined with her extra depth of body and effortless movement around the pen have made her a favorite of all who have seen her. Her sire, MRL Missile, needs no introduction as his sons have topped bull sales across the country and his daughters are just starting to write their own page of history at our place and many others across the country. Missile still proudly walks the pastures here at X-T and his progeny have dominated the replacement pen since his first calf crop. The dam, 25B, is what we would describe as an ideal beef cow; thick, easy doing, sound, and an excellent producer. Being sired by the Angus maternal legend, SAV Bismark, and with TLG Flirtin With You and 3C Macho on the bottom side, it’s little surprise 25B produces like she does.

Open. Here is a pair of females we are very excited about, and could be the best pair we have ever offered. The tremendous depth of body, spring of rib, eye appeal and structure that the Bounty Hunter calves exhibit is truly impressive. All reports say they are making awesome young females, so these two will be ones to build around. This heifer has stood out from a young age, as do all of the females that stem from the 600X cow. All the females from this cow family have been excellent producers, all possessing ideal structure and udder quality. We really admire the angular design, sound structure and overall capacity this heifer displays, traits that we look for when selecting females for our own program.

This female is a prime example of what we strive to produce, and she ranks as one of the best we have ever raised. She exhibits tremendous length, capacity, eye appeal and balance. She is stout from every angle, yet feminine through the front third. This female is backed by one of our top cow families, going back to the 804W cow. Year after year the top bulls in our program are sons or grandsons of this female. A maternal sister to this heifer sold in Simmsational two years ago as the high selling heifer calf to McMillen Ranching. This cow family not only adds quality but also an outcross pedigree to this outstanding package. This heifer has had many admirers over the summer, and this fall she was named Grand Champion Heifer Calf at the Ranchman’s Pen Show. The quality and consistency has been proven many times over by this cow family, and the potential of this female is endless!

Homo Polled, Full Fleckvieh, Dilutor. Princess has been destined for Simmsational since we first joined this sale in 2019. It is our focus to offer a homo polled Fleckvieh heifer each year. Last year’s heifer is now in the donor program at Crossroad Farms. Princess is big hipped, long and smooth made with lots of pigment. She is the first daughter to sell off our homo polled herdsire, Payroll. Payroll produces cattle with added length and muscle and the females will have excellent udders. Princess has a pedigree stacked with elite donor cows with our Miss Marcus and Sering cows and the She Devil and Miss Pixie cows as well. With the service to Blueprint and the good chance of a homo polled calf, the investment could pay off immediately.

Homo Polled, Non-Dilutor. Emilia is a big barreled, very feminine daughter of our Grand Prix herdsire. These Grand Prix daughters make excellent cows and we have nearly 20 in the herd. They have excellent udders, great feet and legs and can really produce. Emilia comes from our Erica cow family which is the most prolific in our program. She is carrying service to our homo polled, Fleckvieh herd bull, Philosophy, whom we own with Creekside Cattle Co. We have had great success using Philosophy on heifers yet the calves have performance and are often at the top of their pen come fall. Philosophy has been used by numerous top herds in Canada with some other females in this sale carrying his service.

Homo Polled, Hetero Black. Molly is a big topped, powerful daughter of WFL Absolute going back to Cobra on the bottom side. Coming from the Minny cow family, one can expect fertility, longevity, and production with this heifer. Molly is again carrying service to Philosophy. She didn’t stick to the first service however it was a mating we wanted so we bred her again with success. This Fleckvieh cross on our black cattle is a key objective of our program. The results are exciting as those black blaze cattle are sought after and the Fleckvieh influence is a bonus. Expect a homo polled, blaze face calf that will be highly marketable.
