Hong Kong Youth Theatre Awards First Local Theatre Awards to Create Extraordinary Opportunities for Extraordinary Young Talents 「本地並不缺乏有潛能的青年人,重 點是怎樣幫助他們發揮,並對之持續 深化,培育他們對經典劇的興趣」行 政總裁邱歡智 (Lynn) 分享道。在藝 術路途上,天分、決心和承擔並不足 夠,還看一個可發揮的機會。Bravo! 香港青年劇場獎正正就是這樣的難得 機遇。 Bravo! 獎是一個設於香港/倫敦、並針
對12-17歲香港永久性居民的雙語劇場 獎項,致力開拓本地表演藝術的訓練 機會。Lynn解釋「青年人成年後可在 大專或其他機構修讀演藝課程,相對 有較大的選擇空間;中學階段的青年 人是最缺乏機會的一群。此計劃可讓 這群青年人於香港及海外培訓,以免 戲劇人才流失,出現斷層的情況 。」 經過一年多的洽談後,本獎勵計劃最 終由策略伙伴 – 利希慎基金及學習伙 伴 – LAMDA(London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art)支持。 本獎項設兩個階段:Bravo獎(最多50 名得獎者)及Bravo I獎(最多20名得 獎者)。在首個階段的Bravo獎中,50 位本地的青年人將於2013年4月至 2014年4月期間,接受由本地及倫敦 LAMDA導師教授的專業演戲訓練。
“We do not lack local young talents. Yet, the emphasis should always be how to explore their potentials and deepen their skills, so that their interest in theatre is eventually cultivated,” shared by Lynn Yau, AFTEC’s Chief Executive Officer. In the challenging journey in pursuing arts, merely talent, determination and commitment are not adequate. Chance plays a role in success. Finally, the chance is here with Bravo! Hong Kong Youth Theatre Awards. Bravo! Hong Kong Youth Theatre Awards, a bilingual award programme based in Hong Kong / London for talented 12-17 year old Hong Kong permanent residents, aims at providing training opportunities to the local youngsters. Lynn explained, “Young people, aged 18 or above, can further their studies in other tertiary institutions with a variety of choices. For those who are still studying at secondary schools, the opportunities are insufficient. Such an award scheme enables this group of youngsters to receive local and overseas trainings. In the long-run, this will definitely nurtures young acting talent in the field.” After a year of discussion, Bravo! is magnanimously supported by Strategic Partner – Lee Hysan Foundation and Learning Partner – LAMDA (London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art ). There are 2 tiers to the Awards: Bravo Awards (maximum of 50) and Bravo I Awards (maximum of 20). While the Bravo Awards allow 50

而Bravo I獎(I意旨International)將 在2014年的暑假期間,保送20位來自 第一階段的得獎者到英國倫敦LAMDA 接受四星期的演戲訓練。當中的訓練 包括形體劇場,及以語文為本的經典 劇場。此外,所有得獎者更會參加專 業的劇場製作及藝術社會服務計劃, 一展所長。 Lynn 直言︰「Bravo! 要求一眾得獎者 在一系列持續且專業的演戲訓練中, 展示出眾的演戲才能、過人的承擔, 及對演戲的熱誠,為本地藝術界帶來 正面的轉變。」透過是次與誇啦啦史 無前例的合作,LAMDA的校長Joanna Read希望可以藉此激發香港新一代 劇場愛好者及工作者的想像力。Ms. Read將會親自來港,為2014年4月的 總遴選作評審工作。 除了對演戲的熱忱,計劃亦會特別考 慮申請人的經濟狀況。有才能及經濟 需要的申請者將獲優先考慮,而有經 濟條件但欠缺機會的申請人亦會被考 慮給予少部分的名額。

local young people to receive professional acting training from local and LAMDA teaching artists from April 2013 to April 2014, Bravo I Awards (I being International) will send 20 awardees from tier 1 to London for 4 weeks of acting training at LAMDA in the summer of 2014. Physical theatre and language-based classic theatre will be covered in the training in two separate streams. Besides acting training, all awardees will also participate in professional theatre productions and apply their skills through a social service project in the arts. Lynn remarks, “Bravo! requires awardees to demonstrate outstanding acting abilities; a high degree of commitment to and passion in acting through a series of sustained professional training programmes to become transformative agents for positive change to the arts in Hong Kong.” And through this history - making collaboration with AFTEC, Joanna Read, LAMDA Principal, hopes “to ignite the imaginations of the next generation of theatre enthusiasts and practitioners in Hong Kong”. Ms. Read will be on the judging panel for final auditions in Hong Kong in April 2014. The Awards will give priority to talented and financially underprivileged applicants. Financially able but “Opportunity” underprivileged applicants will also be considered with a smaller quota.

過往演員紛紛表示興趣 此獎項對現年18歲、曾參與誇啦啦青年粵語劇場《命中煮 定》及《胡妮晶傳》演出的張灝源來說意義深遠︰「雖然我不 符合申請資格,但深信透過獎項,那些熱愛戲劇的青年人的 付出會得到肯定、熱情得到鼓勵,努力得以回報。這更是一 個極好的機會讓他們去擴闊眼界,並向資深的本地及國際導 師『取經』。」 簡喬曾接受專業的音樂劇訓練,並於本團青年英語劇場 《愛在黑暗蔓延時》演出。22歲的他認為「這獎項的確是一 個千載難逢的機會去追求戲劇藝術,一種需要無比熱誠和付 出才能獲得成功的藝術」。立志成為一位專業演員,他認同 邱歡智的信念:「這獎項會讓普羅大眾明白到劇場並非一朝 一夕能成就大業的事情。」
Our Alumni Express Strong Interests towards the Programme When asked what the awards would mean to him, Raymond Yuen, an 18-year old youth actor who participated in AFTEC’s Chinese Youth Theatre productions of The Kitchen and Volpona says, “Though I am over-aged and ineligible, I think the awards would mean a lot to those dedicated young actors who want their effort assured, passion encouraged and hard work rewarded. This would be an amazing opportunity for them to widen their horizons and acquire professional acting skills from experienced local and international tutors.”

一個關於夢想、想像和勇氣的故事 《迷失世界》透過劇場進行跨學科學習 The Lost World: A Story on Dreams, Imagination & Courage Cross-Subject Learning through the Theatre 誠蒙香港賽馬會慈善信託基金慷慨贊 助,誇啦啦藝術集匯呈獻的「從文本 到舞臺TM」賽馬會前瞻劇場教育計劃載 譽歸來,將於2013年3月上演一套有關 夢想、想像和勇氣的經典科幻故事 《迷失世界》。經誇啦啦藝術集匯藝術 總監黃清霞博士導演及改篇後,柯南• 道爾(經典著作《福爾摩斯》作者)撰 寫的《迷失世界》將由一班專業外籍演 員演出。門票開售至今已售出接近一 萬張,獲得一眾本地中學老師和同學 的熱烈支持。 《迷失世界》講述新聞記者馬毅華在一 次採訪生物學家查教授的機會下,得 知南美洲有一個神秘領域,可能仍然 居住了一群遠古生物–恐龍。 為了查 證恐龍的存在,查教授、馬毅華和其 他專家組成了一隊遠征隊伍,帶著期 望向南美洲及他們的夢想出發。他們 能否成功找到恐龍? 配以巨型恐龍木偶、古代的服飾和華 麗的佈景設計,《迷失世界》將引領 各位學生觀眾返回維多利亞時期,前 往南美洲,展開一次尋找恐龍的驚險 之旅。透過這與別不同的表演,本故 事鼓勵年輕人要勇於追尋夢想,善用 他們的想像力,並重拾面對生命中逆 境的勇氣。
Supported by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, The Absolutely Fabulous Theatre Connection’s (AFTEC) very successful The Jockey Club “From Page to Stage™” Programme is staging The Lost World, a sci-fi classic on dreams, imagination and courage now on Sai Wan Ho Civic Centre Theatre. Written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (author of the Sherlock Holmes Series), directed and adapted by AFTEC Artistic Director Dr. Vicki Ooi, and performed by a professional English speaking cast, The Lost World has received enthusiastic response from local secondary school teachers and students and has hit its 10,000th audience. The story follows Edward Malone, a reporter for a newspaper, is to interview Professor Challenger, who claims that he has found dinosaurs in South America. Together with the other team members, they go on an expedition into the lost world to prove that dinosaurs did exist. Did they find any dinosaurs? The Lost World aspires to bring to our school audience a theatre production like no other. With large dinosaur puppets, period costumes and a dazzling set rendering the lost world, the production will transport the audience back to the Victorian Era and embark on a journey into South America for dinosaurs. The story itself encourages young people to pursue their dreams, use their imagination and rediscover their courage towards life.

Details of the Programme
Dr. Ooi, who created “From Page to Stage™” Programme, says she saw a lot of local students struggling with reading in English and real literature. Based on her 30-year teaching experience at The University of Hong Kong and numerous local schools, she has discovered that one of the most effective ways of arousing students’ interest in reading is to engage them in a dramatised version of the book. “With visual and aural elements, a theatre performance not only enables students to grasp the story easily, but also deepens their understanding of the themes and characters.”

Since 2008, AFTEC has produced 4 theatre productions for “From Page to StageTM” Programme. Every production adapts a classic in the Western English canon and realises it live on stage. Past productions include Dracula (Bram Stoker), Great Expectations (Charles Dickens), Sherlock Holmes’ The Case of the Speckled Band (Sir Arthur Conan Doyle) and Emma (Jane Austen). Emma was also the first production of The Jockey Club “From Page To StageTM” Programme, a 3-year Learning and Participation edu-venture supported by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.

There is a need for doctors to be aware that the human and humane aspects of medical practice go hand in hand with the benefits reaped through science and technology. Undoubtedly, finding cures for disease, drugs to delay ageing and developing stem cell therapies to reverse degenerative disorders are of critical importance but of equal importance are alleviating the suffering of patients with chronic illnesses and incurable diseases.

我們聯同香港大學李嘉誠醫學院,攜手展開一個突破性的項 目,於2012年11月起,獻上全港第一個運用戲劇和音樂的醫 學人文學科。2012至2014年度駐團藝術教育家羅乃新女士, 以及行政總裁邱歡智女士,為超過200名醫學系的一年級生 進行一系列的工作坊。 工作坊是學科課程的一部分,旨在探索一個準醫生的多重身 份和情緒。透過戲劇和音樂的想像和體驗,學生們能從中了 解到自己,作為個人、家中一員及醫科學生的不同身份。工 作坊其中一部分為讀者劇場,挑選由著名醫生作家Richard Selzer撰寫的札記作為讀本,學生們每四至五人一組,分段 讀出劇本,讓學生們感受醫生面對病人離世時的情感掙扎。 羅女士彈奏代表不同的音樂,學生們以表情及身體傳達當 中情緒;羅女士更彈奏了一首由血癌年輕人離世前創作的歌 曲,學生聆聽歌曲後,踴躍分享感受。 我們希望在醫科生忙碌的學習生活中融入戲劇和音樂,藉此 擴闊香港表演藝術的觀眾層,但更重要的是要感動生命,治 癒身心,賦予生命意義。
以下是學生們參與工作坊後的感想:
In a breakthrough programme with the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong, we are proud to present the first ever Medical Humanities programme in Drama & Music for over 200 first year medical students from November 2012. As a community partner in the Medical Humanities, AFTEC’s Artist-in-Education (2012-14), also an award-winning pianist, Nancy Loo and CEO Lynn Yau undertook a series of workshops with students in the current academic year 2012-13. The workshops, being a credit-bearing part of the medical curriculum, will feature an exploration of the emotions and the diverse identities of a young doctor. Through imaginative encounters in drama and music, students will explore the self as an individual and a medical student. The workshop includes Readers’ Theatre and the script was adapted from case study notes of doctor and author Richard Selzer. Students read out the script in groups, going through the emotional struggle while facing the death of a patient. In addition, students express their feelings towards the music Ms Loo played on the piano. Among the pieces of music, students were touched by the song composed by a teenager who died of leukemia and share his personal stories. By including drama and music in the lives of busy medical students, we looks not only to audience building in the arts for Hong Kong but more importantly to touch lives and add meaning to both healing the body and the spirit.
The following are reflections from students:
經過多年的醫科生活和執業後,我們可能會變得無 情,病人也只是工作的一部分。這個劇本從不同人的 角度出發,包括病人的母親和醫科學生,他們的對話 提醒了我一個醫生的正確態度。
After years of studying in the medical school and practising, we may become one of those emotionless doctors who treat patients as part of their job only. The script includes the perspectives of different people including the patient’s mother and medical students like us. Their conversations have given me a good reminder of the appropriate attitude of a doctor.
我學到最有用的事:我是可以去感受事物,可以感到 憤怒、受傷或沮喪。體驗廣泛的情感能讓我成為更好 的醫生,冷漠對待病人不會成就好醫生。
The most useful thing that I have learnt: it is alright for me to feel things. It is OK to be angry, hurt or frustrated. Experiencing a broad spectrum of emotions will enable me to be a better doctor. Being able to treat a patient with coldness and indifference will not make me a good doctor.
透過閱讀劇本,我學會提出有關醫德的問題,想想自 己將來的路。我享受閱讀劇本的過程,它讓我思考如 何去面對病人,會否在他們面前展現情緒。
Through reading the script, I learn to raise questions relating to medical ethics and think more about the road ahead of me. I really enjoy reading the script as it leads me to think of what I would like to be in front of patients, whether or not to reveal my emotions.
聽過由羅女士的教子創作的歌曲,我想起了信念和希 望的美,深深感受到樂譜中蘊藏著的感情。
The song written by Ms Loo’s Godson reminds me of the beauty of faith and hope. I can actually feel his emotions embedded in the music score.

Sm-ART青年計劃2012-13 透過藝術學習 • 服務社群 Sm-ART Youth Project 2012-13 Social Service through the Arts Sm-ART青年計劃2012年10月進行至 今,經已順利舉行兩個週六文化日。十 八名聖文德天主教小學的三、四年級學 生,在成人義工及Sm-ART青年領袖部 同下,早上先進行工作坊,下午再出外 參與文化活動。 11月17日的文化活動為誇啦啦藝術集 匯《聲感漫遊》,一個糅合音效及觸感 的劇場藝術體驗,12月8日則前往香港 大會堂,觀賞香港小交響樂團《麥兜. 感人至深小聖誕》音樂會。以下是其 中兩名Sm-ART青年領袖參與活動後的 感想:
The Sm-ART Youth Project started in October last year and two Cultural Days were successfully held. Together with the Adult Volunteers and Sm-ART Youth Leaders, 18 primary three and four students from St Bonaventure Catholic Primary School explored the arts through two very different arts productions which were equally inspiring. On 17th November, students and volunteers joined AFTEC’s Living Arts Series The Urban/ Jungle Journey, a tactile and sound arts experience in the theatre. At the next Cultural Day, the group went to the concert McDull. A Sentimental Little Christmas by Hong Kong Sinfonietta. The following were the reflections of two Sm-ART Youth Leaders:
展覽啟發了我,不單單是因為重新演繹了各種日用品,更令我反思自 己的生活。學生們的反應和投入讓我有深刻的體驗。很多時候,我們 會被原有的認知和印象限制了想法,若我們嘗試從不同角度出發,很 多事物會變得不一樣。 The exhibition inspired me a lot not just because it used some daily objects in a different way but it made me review my life. Besides, students’ reactions gave me new inspiration. Maybe it is just the original perception of an object that restricts the way we view things. Things can be different if we view them from a different angle. 我學到的跟學生們一樣多,因為我不是經常觀賞音樂會,所以對音樂 不太熟悉。現在,我知道一個樂團的各個部分,並欣賞了現場演出。 另外,我學會用心感受,而各人的感受亦可以不同,因為音樂是沒有 標準答案。 I believe I have learnt as much as the primary students have. I am not a frequent concert-goer so I am not familiar with music. And now, I know more about the composition of an orchestra and have experienced a live concert. Also, I have learnt to feel the music with my heart. We may feel differently from others and it is fine as there is no standard answer.

與「藝術評論證書」課程學員 對談寫作路 An Interview with the Certificate of Arts Criticism Students 隨著藝術導賞活動的完結,課程已告一段落。在這一年多,我們相信各學員對 欣賞藝術、撰寫有關評論加深了不少認識。當中,更有學員深受課程的啟發而 全識或兼職寫作,傳播欣賞藝術的種子! 今期的人物誌,我們很高興邀得Winnie和LK與我們分享對課程的看法、寫作的 意義及藝術發展的期望。Winnie早前於一國際獵頭公司任職企業市場推廣。 她現為一名新晉的舞蹈評論家。LK的正職則為金融交易員。他善用餘暇,以 「城市觀察者」的身份在網上發表文章。 The course has finally come to a close after the completion of the Appreciatio activities. Throughout the year, we believe that the students have learnt a lot in terms of arts appreciation and writing arts critiques. Some students were so inspired that they decided to become full-time and part-time arts critics, aspiring to nurture the growth of the arts in Hong Kong. In this issue, we are delighted to have invited Winnie and LK, two students of the course, to share with us their thoughts on the course, writing and arts development. As an ex-corporate marketer, Winnie is now an emerging dance critic. LK is an independent trader who has published numerous online articles using his pseudo-name ‘City Observer’.

誇:對不少人來說,藝術評論是一件挺陌生的事。在此, 可以請你們解說一下藝評人的工作? W : 藝術評論的意義在於兩方面,既協助藝術家在創作上 更進一步,又助觀眾更有效地賞析藝術。針對香港而言, 官方評審藝術的準則以量化的統計為主,但我們必須加入 一些質化的指標,例如:自我評估、同業的評論,當然也 少不了藝評人的評價,才能全面了解到整個行業的概況。 L : 對。評是評價, 評高低; 論要為評價提出理據. 好的評論 有助於理解, 欣賞, 反思和細嚼 。 誇:當中你們以不同的形式進行:Winnie全職寫作而LK就 在餘暇發表文章。為甚麼決意要寫作,特別是藝術評論? W : 與倫敦或紐約不同,香港的藝術發展遠遠跟不其經濟 發展上的成就。我想其中一個原因是欠缺評論人才。在藝 術這圈子中,我們有藝術家、教授、策展人、資助者等, 但正正就遺漏了評論員的一席位,可見當中的發展生態並 不平衡,而且這是一個陌生的行業。當我離職時,我告訴 朋友將攻讀藝術評論時,他們的反應也相當迥異:外籍友 人大聲叫好,而本地友人則皺眉反問:「這是甚麼?」有 如剛才說過藝評的重要性,我想,透過藝術評論,我能為 本地藝術發展盡一點力。 L : 寫作是好練習,有話說可以試試寫下來,寫得下才算 真的有話說。公開文章,需要小心地定下立場並承擔責 任,是認真的鍛煉,對自己好。Winnie 是很專業的藝評人, 我只是這裡寫點, 那理邊寫點罷了。 藝評課程有一小段是針對寫作,該導師瀟灑地解決了一系 列重點問題,如寫作目的,如何挑選、應對讀者、引起興 趣及留下印象,給了我寶貴的要領,又讓我見識了一篇好 文章該怎樣由頭帶著讀者如水流般順序走到尾,與撰寫報 告不同,給我大開眼界 。
誇:當中遇到甚麼阻力? L : 阻力當然多,剛好這幾個月有空餘時間,可以把阻力視 為挑戰應付。阻力與挑戰一樣,不克服就走不過去。對我 來說,可以說全部都是挑戰,從藝,到評,至寫。僥倖導 師對我們新手很包容,我們裝滿有熱情興致,他們就樂意 奉陪了。 說到真正阻力,一定是做功課,寫最後文章時。寫熟悉的 課題也不一定易,何況寫藝評,所以每次定能找到藉口推 遲作業。寫作(不是報告或報道)是個人情感活動,要寫 不想寫的,阻力很大。 W : 我找不到太多有關寫藝評的進修課程,大專的課程暫 時尚未有涵蓋這方面,當中的同業員又寥寥可數。曾經在 我和一位編舞家的訪問中,她分享了一次欣賞一個號稱實 驗性作品的經歷。當人人讚以「創新」及「前所未有」之 時,她其實早在15年前已觀看過同類型的演出。由此可 見,香港現代舞的發展史根本沒有人記錄,知識也因此無 法流傳。這反映出我的資源的緊拙及行業對藝評人急切的 需求。 L : 能夠幫助藝術界的發展當然是好事。個人而言,賞析表 演及參加藝評訓練亦具它們吸引之處。試想想在上音樂科 時,晚上下班後有老師替我們備設好音樂和故事,還可以 閉著眼睛上課,妙極! 下一期將繼續有及訴說他們在撰寫藝評中的趣事及對行業 的展望,萬勿錯過!

A: Arts critics are like strangers to many people. Can you two please briefly explain the job of an arts critic? W: The job of a critic is twofold: to help artists reach a higher level of creativity and the audience to appreciate artworks better. Also, specific to Hong Kong, the government’s mechanism for evaluating artworks is primarily quantitative, but we need more qualitative measures such as self-assessment, peer review, and of course, critics’ review. L: Right. In English, the word “critic” carries negative connotations, which is not the case in Chinese. Essentially the critic has to evaluate the performance or production, and give reasons to substantiate his points. Good qualitative criticisms are thus helpful to artists and viewers alike, as well as being useful for record keeping. A: You are now writers, yet in different ways: Winnie as a full-time writer whilst LK only writes when time permits. Where does the will to write, in particular as art critics, come from? W: In Hong Kong, the sophistication of art is incongruent with the maturity of our financial market, unlike London and New York. I think a possible hold-up is the lack of critics. We have artists, professors, curators, patrons, etc., but the ecology is incomplete without critics. Here, arts criticism is virtually unknown. When I resigned, I told people that I am going to be an art critic. My gweilo friends cheered, “Wow, that’s cool!”; my Chinese friends frowned and asked, “What’s that?” So I thought I could perhaps contribute in this way. L: I don’t call myself an arts critic – I wouldn’t qualify. So unlike Winnie, I don’t write as an arts critic, but as a critical observer in a city, and I don’t write on the arts only. Writing is a good exercise to check and explain one’s thoughts. If you think you have a brilliant idea and you can put it in words, it means you have prevailed. And if you want to write publicly, you have to consider, pick and phrase your points carefully. It is pretty serious training. The course was very helpful to have offered some brilliant advice on writing in general. The teacher effectively and accurately addressed such crucial issues as how to pick and address an audience appropriately, how to get their attention and leave a good impression in the end. Very importantly, a good piece of writing should sustain the reader’s interest from the beginning, carry him well along until your conclusions. It’s not like writing a commercial report you know. It’s a bit like a lost art at a time when most people only know PowerPoints. So it was a joy to re-discover it!
A: What difficulties did you encounter? L: There were a lot of challenges of course. Nevertheless, I always believe that the more challenges one faces, the more motivated one becomes. The whole journey was challenging: from the ARTS, to the Criticism, and finally to the Writing. Luckily our tutors were all very patient with us, a group of amateur arts critics who nevertheless are so passionate about this unique art form. The most challenging was indeed the final homework assignment. There were always many excuses for me to do my work later. Writing coherently is often hard enough, let alone writing a piece of criticism on a piece of music that was all but Greek to me at first. Unlike writing reports at work, commenting on the arts requires real feelings – you have to be into it to do it. W: I don’t have many options for studying arts criticism here; the universities don’t teach this subject and there’re very few existing practitioners. A choreographer I interviewed recently told me about a so-called experimental work staged last month: everybody hailed it as “innovative and ground-breaking”, but it was the same as what she saw 15 years ago. Obviously, nobody is documenting the development of modern dance here and passing down the knowledge to the next generation. This goes to show how scarce my resources are and again how urgent the need for critics is. L: I will be thrilled to play a contributory role in developing the arts in HK. In terms of my personal interest, I simply love arts appreciation and criticism. Imagine after a long day of work, upon your entering into the classroom, your tutor has already put a disc on and got the story for the night ready. You can even have the class with your eyes closed. How wonderful! Winnie and LK will share their views and expectations towards the local development of the arts and arts criticism in our next issue. Stay tuned!

《奇幻聖誕頌》為學生提早送上節日氣氛 A Christmas Carol – Sharing an Early Christmas 聯同康樂及文化事務署觀眾拓展辦事處,誇啦啦藝術集匯 在11月22至23日舉行的學校文化日中,載譽重演狄更斯的 經典名著《奇幻聖誕頌》,為一眾中、小學學生提早帶來濃厚 的節日氣氛。
Celebrating Christmas, AFTEC was proud to present Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol on 22nd and 23rd of November. The performance was in collaboration with Audience Building Office of LCSD under the School Culture Day Scheme.
經本團藝術總監黃清霞博士的改編後,《奇》仍然講述在 聖誕前夕,苛刻小氣的財主史古基與三位精靈穿梭過去未 來,發現施予的重要,痛改前非。他這奇幻的經歷正正提 醒了觀眾節日的真正意義。
Under the adaption of our Artistic Director, Dr. Vicki Ooi, A Christmas Carol tells a story of Scrooge, a pitiless moneybag. Scrooge travels to the past, the present and the future with three spirits and discovers the importance of generosity. His magical experience reveals the meaning of the festival.
一如以往,觀賞精彩的演出後,觀眾與一班外籍專業演員 對談,交流感受,甚至獲邀臺上,發揮才華,演出劇作的 選段。活動寓教育於娛樂,旨在加深本地學生對劇場的認 識,推廣藝術文化。
Audience was welcome to talk to our foreign professional actors in the post-performance activity and even have the opportunity to perform the selected text on stage. The performance dedicated to deepen local students’ drama knowledge and promote the arts.

《愛在黑暗蔓延時》完美演繹十七世紀驚慄經典 The Duchess of Malfi: A Perfect Portrayal of the 17th Century Classical Thriller 一年一度的先鋒青年劇場剛於西灣河 文娛中心公演四場後,圓滿結束。一 班出色的年青演員以全英語演出,為 觀眾帶來十七世紀的驚慄經典《愛在 黑暗蔓延時》 。出自約翰 • 韋伯斯特的 手筆,這是一個發生於意大利文藝復 興時期、關於愛恨、榮辱和權力鬥爭 的故事。 緣於一段錯配的戀情,馬爾菲公爵夫人 在喪夫後,不顧社會、宗教、階級身份 及家庭的傳統枷鎖,一意孤行地和她 的管家秘密結婚,最終令她自己、她 的愛人和孩子受害於其兄弟的連場報 復之中。 多位角色出身於十六世紀的皇室貴族, 所以劇中由戲服到佈景設計,甚至道 具,都別具當時的哥德式風格,突顯出 華麗的氣派。加上演員們精湛的演技, 觀眾在演後導賞中,不約而同地因得悉 演員的年紀輕輕而感到驚訝。
The annual Pioneering Youth Theatre Production had come to a close after the four public performances at the Sai Wan Ho Civic Centre Theatre. Performed in English, a talented cast gave an excellent performance of The Duchess of Malfi, one of the greatest examples that we have of the 17th century thriller. Written by John Webster, it is a passionate tale of love, honour and political intrigue set in Renaissance Italy. The story begins with a simple case of misalliance between a widowed duchess and one of her household, Antonio. The Duchess ignores the claims of state, church, class, family and propriety, secretly marries Antonio, bringing down the brutal vengeance of her brothers upon herself, her lover and her children. As the story is set in the 16th Century, the costume, set, and even the props, were in Gothic style. These special designs revealed the glamour of the time. The audience also had a chance to participate in the post-performance backstage tour. They were all amazed by the acting of the youth cast.

一如以往,演員的反思反映出他們由綵排到演出的數月中 的成長,讓我們了解到接觸戲劇和文學經典的重要性。 As always, reflections of the cast revealed their growth during the past few months. Their thoughts allow us to understand the importance of drama and literary classics.
