B

BIM Training

Learning BIM has been a critical element in my Architectural training. Learning the basics in Revit has given me a better understanding of how the program works and what to expect in an office setting.

5

Floor Plans

I have an understanding of the basic functions of Revit and how to navigate through the program to find what I need. I have also gained an understanding of the benefits of BIM in an office. It makes the workflow within an office and with consultants much faster and simpler. The project browser allows you to create your basic views such as floor plans, ceiling plans, elevations, and sections. I know how to add, remove, organize, and navigate through a project to find the correct views and details.

Elevations

I developed a set of drawings based off of a building I was working on for an urban design class. Amongst the projects requirements were to have elevators, stairs, doors, and windows within the set of drawings.

3D Views

Being able to pick 3D views and do quick renderings is another great tool I have learned to use in Revit. I understand how to add furniture, materials, lighting, and create quick renderings.

11

Schedules, Lists, and Sheets

I also understand the process of setting up, organizing, and adding information to the drawing sheets. I can create schedules for the building as well as other lists needed to produce appropriate information in the drawings. I know how to set up the drawing sheet, place the border on the page, and create a grid that helps organize each sheet. Overall, I feel comfortable with navigating the program and using the tools I have learned so far.

O

Orlando Midtown Development

During my Urban Design Studio I learned how to research and analyze code and zoning requirements for buildings in an urban environment. This project gave me a better understanding of how to navigate through the Florida Building Code in order to find the specific regulations for building design and planning. The code covers many topics, but in this course we focused on Floor Area Ratios (F.A.R.), building setback requirements, parking, and dwelling unit calculations.

The angles created by the buildings creates a unique courtyard at the center. This creates unique overhangs, views, and spaces.

1

By re-incorporating Hillcrest Street, the block is broken up into smaller segments.

3

The main market area is located at the southwest corner. It creates a welcoming edge to bring people into the center courtyard space.

2

Synthesis of the Code Research

2

The goal of the project was to create a massing model based off of the code requirements for the block. After analyzing the code requirements, I came up with a simple solution. I designed a highdensity, mixed use development that meets the needs for dwelling units, retail spaces, parking, and street front edge conditions.
