WORLDLY NEWS

weirdNews Can’t Possibly Be True

In Shenzhen, China, one of the country’s richest cities, services are being openly advertised by “wet nurses” to supply adults with breast milk, either directly from the source or after pumping (and pur-

chased by either the infirm or just rich people overconcerned with nourishment). These milk “suppliers” can earn at least

four times the average personal income, with healthy, attractive women earning even more, of course, according to a July Agence France-Presse dispatch. Comments on China’s social media ranged from “It’s just a business” to “People become perverts when they are too rich and tire of other forms of entertainment.” Can’t Possibly Be True

In May (before Edward Snowden began releasing his previously classified document cache), the American Civil Liberties Union released its own attempts to learn some of the same information from the FBI under the Freedom of Information Act. Two of the documents, totaling 69 pages, were completely “redacted” -- solid black boxes covering the entirety of every page except for page numbers and document title. Seriously

Police in York, Pa., arrested both Karen Harrelson, 48,

INSIDE

and Gregory Stambaugh, 57, in May because they could not figure out which one started the couple’s knife fight -- over which contestant (Candice or Kree) deserved to win this year’s “American Idol.” They had apparently stabbed each other with the same knife. omg, omg!!

The New Waterboarding: In April (2009), the district attorney in Vilas County, Wis., announced that he was seeking volunteers for a forensic test to help his case against Douglas Plude, 42, who (was) scheduled to stand trial soon for the second time in the death of his wife. The volunteers must be female, about 5 feet 8 inches and 140 pounds, and will have to stick their heads into a toilet bowl and flush. Plude is charged with drowning his wife in a commode, but his version (which the prosecutor will try to show is improbable) is that his wife committed suicide by flushing herself.

EDIBLE REVIEW

Drink Eat This

By FuQua Johnson Hello, dear friends, and Happy Wow, what a year it has already been so far, and it’s only February. I read many articles, and watched plethora of T.V. interviews about the recreational use in Colorado. I read some places had lines one hundred people plus when they opened January 1st. People from all over the country came to Colorado to purchase legal pot. It was estimated that the sales for the first day broke over two million dollars!!! Now that is just one state that is doing this, so imagine if other states followed suit, our national debt will be a thing of the past. Just saying…. Anyway, let’s get on with some good stuff shall we. I have to be honest, I have been writing for the Gazette for a while now, and I believe I have tried just about every edible that is sold at Nature’s. I have seen company’s come and go, but I also have seen certain companies that have stuck around that are really making big strides in the MMJ industry. I hope many if not all of you readers got the chance to get your dirty little hands on the gummy bears from “Sweet Stone” edible company. Super good, right? I really liked the Raspberry flavored one. So, with that being said, I wanted to do something a little different this month. I was thinking of ways to use the edible for sale at Nature’s differently instead of just eating them just by themselves. I live in a very old house that still has a wood burning stone in the middle of the house. So, it feels and sounds like I have a campfire in my living room. I recently bought some Boulder Bars from the “Incredibles” company and my girl came up with the brilliant idea to make Smores using the Boulder Bars. Holy

S#!t, these were the best Smores I have ever tasted in my entire life!!! Speaking of my lady, she love edible, sometimes prefers it then smoking, but she mentioned to me that she doesn’t want to eat candy or chocolate every time she

wants to medicate. I got a hold of some canna-butter, infused olive oil, and BBQ sauce, infused of course. I don’t know where to begin how you want to use the butter?!?! There are so many different applications for butter and the

That

best part, you can use it anytime. Try it on toast, a sandwich, or even when you are just cooking a meal. The infused olive oil has the same application as the butter but I suggest using this product for cooking food like pasta or using it to make salad dressing. And don’t forget about the BBQ sauce. Can anyone say “Wings”? Bring out a plate full of Infused BBQ wings, and they might be a bigger hit then the ones on T.V. Super bowl Sunday. There are too many options for the different uses for these products to list in the article alone, but I think you get the picture. I hope you have a wonderful Valentine’s Day, and enjoy the Super bowl, especially the commercials on that day. I really miss the “Got Milk” commercials, but I still enjoy them all. I will create a suggestion box hopefully made sometime soon and I would love to hear from you. I’m happy to read any comments or suggestion you readers might have for me. I’m always excited to try something new and exciting. Like always readers, medicate with care and I’ll see you on the flip.

RECREATIONAL MARIJUANA

The State of Recreational

Marijuana

By Alvin Dy Recreational marijuana is simply gaining acceptance among a majority of Americans. States are slowly allowing the use of recreational marijuana, starting with Colorado and Washington, and, just recently, New Hampshire, came out with a bill that will seek the legalization of marijuana use among adults 21 years old and up. Under the New Hampshire bill, marijuana will be legal but it will be taxed at $30 per ounce. It will also allow users to grow up to six marijuana plants. The proposed bill is actually similar to the laws in Washington and Colorado. Other states, such as Massachusetts, are getting ready to come up with a pot bill. Marijuana legalization advocates in Massachusetts, for those who don’t know, are preparing to fight for legal recreational marijuana use. If you remember, a majority of voters in the state voted to decriminalize marijuana possession in small amounts way back in 2008 and legitimized medical use in 2012. Admittedly, however, there are no guarantees that legal recreational marijuana use would be possible in Massachusetts after 2016. Some people, even those that supported marijuana use for medical purposes, think that there is a difference between saving a patient’s life and just getting high. Also, Massachusetts might have a liberal and open reputation, but there is still a significant part of the state that is more conservative and traditional. State representatives like Ellen Story are hesitant to support recreational pot use

even though they supported decriminalization and medical marijuana use in the past. One of the things that the advocates are banking on is that 2016 will have younger voters who are more open to legalizing all forms of marijuana. Alaska is also well on its way to legalizing recreational marijuana. The Campaign to Regulate Marijuana, a citizen’s group that is advocating legalization, has just submitted a petition with close to 46,000 signatories to include the question on the ballots for the state elections this year. Other states that are seriously considering legalizing recreational marijuana include Arizona, California, Maine, Montana and Nevada. Why are these states pushing for recreational marijuana to be legal? These aforementioned states now allow for medical marijuana use. With research coming out recently showing that marijuana is actually good for your health, and with doctors, scientists and other experts backing this claim, it would be difficult to still block efforts to allow

sick people to get access to a substance that helps them control their symptoms, treat their diseases, let them live. Or at least let them have a more normal life. Twenty states, including Vermont, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Delaware, and also the District of Columbia, now allow medical marijuana. Within this context, it would not be difficult to imagine that people are seeing the beneficial effects of marijuana. We would not be surprised if a family member sees the patient getting better and starts thinking that maybe, just maybe, marijuana might not be as bad as people have thought. Some believe that legalizing recreational marijuana might just mean more freedom in relation to medical marijuana. Medical marijuana might be legal in these twenty states, but that does not mean it is easy to come by. Patients who use medical marijuana are hoping that legalizing all forms of marijuana might just make their lives easier by relaxing some of the more stringent prohibitions in medical marijuana laws.

Other states tend to be more practical in their reasoning. Their law enforcement units cannot handle their workloads and it will be heaven-sent to them if marijuana would just become legal. Instead of spending time and money making a low-level possession or illegal use arrest, they could devote their police manpower to other more serious crimes. Yet others just want the money. Legalizing marijuana would mean revenue for the state. Not only will they be able to earn from the taxes that are associated with legalizing marijuana in any form, but they will also save money not prosecuting people who were arrested on marijuana-related charges. What about your state? Are you in one of those states that still have their underwear bunched up over marijuana? Or are you in one where recreational marijuana might just be legal any time soon? You should just be so lucky if you live in Washington or Colorado. Please tell us about what is happening in your state!

THE HASH MAN

D E T E R M I NAT I O N

OF HASH QUALITY Part 2 By Trey “The Hash Man” Gochenour

Hello, fellow Hash lovers! I hope this finds you all well arid that you all had a great holiday season! This is part two of determining your Hash quality. Last month, we left off at the color of your Hash before pressing it. Today, we will start with the color your Hash should be after pressing it. Higher quality resin powders turn darker, and do so much faster when its roughly kneaded, than do lower quality resin powders. The higher the amount of resin in the sample, the faster it softens and darkens. High purity resin powder glands burst and melt together easily, making a dense darker piece. Remember that resin oxidizes with exposure to light, air and heat. What is the texture of your resin powder? Fine, dense resin powder is of higher quality than that of course, fluffy resin powder. Resin is denser than dust or powdered plant material. Soft, moist texture indicates fresh resin powder. Hard, dry texture indicates old, stale resin powder. What is the texture of your pressed Hashish? Well pressed

Hash is still soft and spongy, even when plant impurities are present. The purest Hash ¡s dense, solid and arid making a sharp click. Non- pure has is a dull thud, when dropped on a hard surface. Mineral impurities can make your Hash hard and brittle, and often fails to soften up in your palm. The freshly broken edge of high quality hash ¡s sharp arid clean, even when resins are soft. If there ¡s too much plant tissue, the Hash will pull apart, rather than break cleanly, and often times, will look fluffy and stringy. A piece of has that is too hard to reform in your hand ¡s old and stale. The freshest Hash will soften in a few minutes when warmed in your palm. Higher quality Hash is very pliable and when kneaded out into a thin piece, care be bent back arid forth many times before drying out and cracking. The consistency page of high quality hash is similar to that of taffy. When pulled slowly, hash stretches, is soft and pliable. When pulled to fast it snaps and breaks off. So.. What does you hash smell like? Your hash should smell clean and spicy. The fresher it is, the better it will smell. If it smells musty or dirty, then it is most likely stale, contains contaminates, or may have become moldy. If your hash has very little to no smell at all, it has very little resin is very old, or both. If it smells like anything other than cannabis, than it is probably full of contaminates. Often times a rancid smelling hash is a clue that it has

vegetable oils, or butter in it for softness. Does your hash stay lit? Cannabis resins are highly flammable, because they contain many extremely volatile compounds. Your hash should flare into flame on the first few lighting attempts. The second or third attempt should keep and stay lit. The first light and ignition consumes the aromatic energy. After a couple of attempts

good hash will stay lit on the first try. An insufficiently pressed piece of has is in constant need of re-lightin, and probably contains very little resin. This concludes part 2 of determining hash quality. Join me next month, when I discuss, “how fast your hash burns, how it tastes and how much pleasure it brings you.” Until then, keep your stash full of hash!!!!

IN THE KNOW

Getting Comfy, The Ideal Cannabis

Environment By Tucker Eldridge When growing in an indoor environment, you must account for every factor associated with growth. You are Mother Nature, and every factor that contributes to your plants well-being must be accounted for. What this means to you, the grower, is that you have supreme control over how your plants grow and thrive. The simplest way to account for all of these factors is to divide them into three base categories: Light Quality, Air Quality, and water Quality. When growing indoors under artificial light, the quality of your light can be measured in intensity and spectrum. Indica’s can be flowered successfully under no less than 50 watts per square foot, while most Sativa dominant strains will not flower well under less than 80 watts per square foot. This is due to the consistency in light intensity these plants evolved under for thousands of years in their native homes. You also must factor in that light intensity degrades by an inverse square ratio over distances. This means that as light travels, it loses intensity extremely quickly, with two feet of distance providing 1/4th the intensity, three feet of distance providing 1/9th the intensity, and light degrading at that rate consistently. One must also consider that plants absorb certain colors of light better than others, and that this can contribute to how effectively a plant uses the light source available to it. Plants tend to absorb light in the red and blue sections of the color spectrum more effectively than other colors available in the

spectrum. What this means to the grower is that a bulb containing extra blue or red light will grow plants more effectively than a bulb of comparable intensity with a less favorable spectrum. Air quality can be defined by your temperature, the relative humidity, and the levels

Water quality can not only impact the availability and quality of our final nutrient recipes, it can also have large impacts on everything below the soil line including: the health of beneficial bacteria, the amount of dissolved oxygen available to plant roots, and the overall temperature of your rootzone. Your

of CO2 available in your air. When measuring temperature in a grow, we are not looking to maintain an exact and consistent temperature, but rather, we are looking to fall into an acceptable range. During the lights on period, with CO2 at normal levels, our ideal grow room temperature falls within the range of 72 to 75 Fahrenheit. When lights are off, Cannabis responds best to temperatures ranging from 65 to 68 Fahrenheit. Relative humidity on the other hand, we are looking to maintain at a constant, unwavering 50%. CO2 sits in the atmosphere within the average range of three hundred to four hundred parts per million, and this is the minimum amount of CO2 we want to be available to our plants at any given time.

best bet for meeting and maintaining consistently high water quality standards is to purchase a reverse osmosis machine. These machines will remove any existing contaminants in your water including chlorine and chloramine, fluoride, cal-

cium carbonate and magnesium molecules too large to be useable by the plant, and most other potential adulterants that can affect the final quality of the product. It is also beneficial to keep any water added to plants at a consistent temperature of 68. This is warm enough to keep roots from being shocked, while still being cold enough to absorb an ideal amount of oxygen. To introduce that oxygen, a grower can either add an air stone or diffusor (preferable), or in the absence of beneficial bacteria, add H2O2 to create a 1% solution. It is possible to account for and maintain all of these factors in an infinite number of ways. There is no one special ideal method for maintaining these factors that works better than everything else, so find a system that works for your level of experience as well as the time you have available to commit to your garden. If you can keep these factors relatively consistent, as well as provide well balanced nutrition to your plants, then you can sit back and watch your babies grow themselves!

How To Melt Chocolate *Take care when melting chocolate or you can easily end up with a grainy mess. The lighter the chocolate, the higher the chances of this happening. The most important thing to remember is that chocolate melts better and faster at lower temperatures. *Never let your chocolate get above 115° F. *The best method is using a double boiler (one pot that holds the chocolate that fits over another which contains about an inch or two of simmering water). If you don’t have a double boiler, you can use a heat proof bowl which is large enough to be suspended over a pot without its bottom touching the simmering water. Stir the melting chocolate often. Remove from the heat as soon as the chocolate is melted and stir in the finely ground hash until smooth. *Be extremely careful not to get any water (not even a drop) into the chocolate. Water will turn the chocolate into a grainy, lumpy mess. (FYI For other recipes, if the liquid is mixed with the chocolate from the beginning of the melting process, it won’t get grainy on you, but adding even a drop in mid-melting will cause this problem. *Alternatively, you can melt chocolate in a dry oven. Place grated chocolate in a metal bowl and place it in an oven set at 110° F (if your oven doesn’t go that low, use the lowest temperature and keep the door ajar). Your chocolate will melt in about an hour. Again, stir in the ground hash once chocolate has melted. *You can also use your microwave, but it takes some getting used to. Different ovens cook at different increments, so experiment with yours, checking the chocolate and stirring frequently — every 10 seconds or less. *Once the chocolate has melted and hash has been mixed in, dip dry strawberries in the chocolate, using a spoon to help cover the berries. Place coated berries on waxed paper to set. (If you want to speed the process, set in the freezer for a minute.) *If you want to add decorative white chocolate, as in the photo above, melt the white chocolate using the dry oven or double boiler method (avoid microwave melting of white chocolate as it’s super tricky and with certain brands, impossible). Once melted, dip a fork into the white chocolate and move it back and forth over the set chocolate dipped berries, letting the white chocolate drip as you go. Let set. *While you can make these up to a day in advance, several hours is best. The riper your berries, the less time they will keep, however, less ripe berries don’t taste as good, so it’s a Catch-22. Store in the refrigerator until ready to serve. - See more at: http://www.cannabischeri.com/recipes/cannabis-infused-chocolatecovered-strawberries/#sthash.hwYnRJLj.dpuf

ASTRO ADVICE MONTHLY

StarScoop Aquarius By Eugenia Last Aquarius-born Ellen DeGeneres (born Jan. 26, 1958) has always been a bright light in the comedic arena and on television. Always generous, kind and helpful with those she interviews, she’s an incredibly dynamic, quick-witted individual who has an interesting astrological chart. Now don’t get me wrong: I’m not saying her chart is great or that she doesn’t face the same battles as everybody else -- right now she is going through some uncertainties that can have legal, financial or medical implications that will make her life difficult until next fall. Ellen doesn’t take anything or anyone for granted. She doesn’t mince words or ignore problems. Hopefully an old problem won’t come back to haunt her. Regardless of what Ellen takes on or has to deal with in business, personal and physical setbacks, she will do her best to make the right decisions. With some favorable transits moving through her chart regarding people from her past, reunions and lots of opportunities until spring 2014, I’m sure Ellen will put a positive foot forward, and she will get the last laugh. Regarding her relationship with Portia -- let’s just say they are an excellent match but may have some trials and tribulations to overcome over the next few years.
