Megachurch bishop Ira V. Hilliard told his Sugarland, Texas, congregation (New Light Christian Center) in June that one of his two private aircraft -- a helicopter valued at about $1 million -- needs new blades, but rather than pay it himself, he asked parishioners to each find it in their hearts to send him $52 “favor seeds” for the blades. (His ministry also owns a $2 million Hawker jet and a $3 million hangar.) To sweeten the deal, he virtually promised that a donor’s gift would be met by a “breakthrough favor” from God in the form of a car repair or their very own “dream” car either 52 days or 52 weeks later. EDIBLE REVIEW
Edibles The on
By FuQua Johnson Greetings and salutations everyone! I hope everyone is doing well. One of my favorite holidays is coming up and I am getting ready. Of course, I am talking about St. Patty’s Day on the 17th. I have been waiting patiently for this day because I have created something special for this day, and I will explain later. I am hoping some of you tried the s’mores using the “Incredible” bars. I have been told you can use the microwave to make an “Urban” version of s’mores. Just make sure you don’t put the bars in the microwave to long. I have heard about ten seconds will do the trick and you can enjoy s’mores anytime. I want to try one using the “Monkey Bar” or the “Peanut Budda Buddha”. Either one I think will be super good, or maybe I should use both. I love to experiment with edibles and especially using Deb’s Butter. Anyway, lets us get on with this month review of some good products at Natures. Recently on a trip to Natures, I saw something I have not tried before. It’s hard to believe because I have tried just about all of them. The bud tender pointed out a new product they just started to carry. It’s called “Suck it” hard candies and they come in a lollipop form or candy pieces, and both are 100mgs per package. Also, I tried the Deb’s Brownies (220mgs), which were super good too. I just got done reading the “Game of Thrones” and now I am watching the series on DVD. I got a hold of some of these suckers to have, while I watch the series. I liked this lot because of two reasons. First, I just like candy while I watch a movie or some sort of snack but the second reason is the time of effectiveness. Some of you
may not know, but I usually wait 2 to 3 days before I try an edible for a proper review. I like to clean out my system as much as I can, so I can accurately gauge the level of effectiveness a product has. So, with that being said, these suckers will hit you quicker than eating something. It’s all about biology my friends. When you have candy in your mouth, extra saliva is created in the mouth. The THC that has been infused with the candy bypasses the stomach and enters
the bloodstream via your gums and teeth. The idea is like chewing tobacco. When you chew tobacco, the nicotine enters the system through the gums in the mouth, so does THC. This product will hit faster than most edibles and the effect is quite good as well. Okay, I just can’t say enough about the brownie. I know a brownie or a cookie was your very first introduction to edibles. For me, it was the brownies my friend’s brother made. I made a
Go
brownie sundae for me and my girl for dessert. The brownie had little pieces of cherries in it and heating it up was just the trick with vanilla ice cream. It was a great dessert to an awesome Valentine’s Day dinner I prepared for both of us. The brownie contained 220mgs of THC, so I decided to split it with my girl. I didn’t want to go into a THC coma on Valentine’s Day. We both really enjoyed the brownie. I really suggest any of Deb’s products at Natures, especially the butter. It is a versatile product that can be used anytime with just about anything. Give it a try, I promise you it will not let you down. On a sad note, my last article for the Gazette will be the April issue. I am moving because of a great job opportunity that I can’t pass up. It has been wonderful to write these articles and I will miss writing for the Gazette. I will make sure the April article is awesome, so I can go out with a bang. Like always, medicate with care and I will see you on the flip.

GROWERS CORNER
Home
Organics Options By: Tucker Eldridge Growing organically at home can become expensive when using bottled nutrients sold at the local grow store. Questions also exist as to the quality and sources of these additives. The use of home waste, converted into useable nutrition, can improve the health and vitality our garden and send less waste to the landfill. We can start in our front lawn. Every time we mow, we take dozens of pounds of nitrogen rich grass clippings and throw them in the trash. These clippings can be composted with soil and root mass from past grows to form nitrogen rich soils that can be added as a top dress or cut in when transplanting to increase vegetative growth. You can generally use most of your garden plant waste as a high nitrogen nutrient source for your compost pile. You can use things like root mass and crushed plant stems as a carbon source, and things like chicken, cow, and horse manure offer a wide array of complex nutrients for your plant to take advantage of. Just remember, when creating a healthy compost pile there are a couple of things we must remember to ensure the successful decomposition of our pile as well as to protect the viability of as much of the micro life within our compost as possible. Keeping a compost pile moist, but not soggy, helps encourage the growth of beneficial bacteria within the compost pile, which will aid plant growth when the compost is used with the plants. It also speeds the composting process and will allow you access
to your home made compost more quickly. A healthy warm compost pile breaks down more readily than a soggy cold pile devoid of life and oxygen. My preferred method for adding oxygen deep into the pile is a breather tube. There are many variations of this, but the basic premise is that you are inserting a thick tube down into the bottom of your pile and using this tube to introduce oxygen deep down into the pile. The reason I prefer this method to the traditional turning of a compost pile is that fungal strands in their early stages of life can be particularly fragile, and the constant agitation of your pile inhibits their ability to grow at their full capacity. The last thing we want to remember about our compost pile is that we want to avoid the addition of any meat or dairy products to our pile, as they attract unwanted pests and bacteria to our pile. These inputs come primarily from the one
other place in your home where prime nutrition is being tossed away, in the kitchen. In the kitchen, we produce a tremendous amount of waste through a myriad of processes. From cooking, to reading the newspaper, to opening junk mail, we end up with a lot of leftover waste that ends up in the trash. But with the proper means, we can convert this waste into a highly nutritious soil amendment to improve the growth and health of our plants, all the while reducing the amount of waste we contribute to landfills. This can be done through the simple process of vermicomposting. A small vermicompost bin would consist of a small bin full of worms to which you could add your kitchen waste. Worms would eat the waste and convert it to nutrient and microbe rich vermicompost, an organic soil additive with tremendous potential to improve plant health and vitality. Chopped up plant
waste from fruits and veggies provides their primary food source, and provides a broad spectrum of nutrients in our vermicompost. Shredded newspaper provides them with bedding, as well as providing a rich source of carbon for your final amendment. You can also add things like used coffee grounds, crushed up egg shells, and dried up or moldy bread to even further diversify your nutrient content of your vermicompost; Once your earth worm bin is producing rich healthy castings, you can use them for a broad spectrum of beneficial applications. These include: top dressing your pots or flower beds, mixing it into your soil when transplanting, and brewing teas to be used in water and foliar applications. The uses for your home made lawn compost, and your home made kitchen vermicompost are extensive, and making them allows you to turn your daily waste into quality organic medicine.

THE HASH MAN
D E T E R M I NAT I O N
OF HASH QUALITY Part 3 By Trey “The Hash Man Gochenour Hello, Everyone! I hope you all had a nice Valentines Day, and that you were able to spend it with the ones you love. Today, I will be discussing how fast your hashish burns, how it tastes, and how much pleasure it should bring you! How quickly your hash burns is a result of how dense it is. High resin content with very little plant debris is a dense hash. However, you must also look at how hard it was pressed. The consumer, (you, my friend) must learn to tell the difference between a naturally dense piece of hash and one that is only dense because it has been pressed very hard. Hashish that is dense because of its high resin
percentage is easy to reform and press back into a dense ball or piece of hash when it is heated. Low-quality hash that has been pressed under extreme pressure, crumbles and cannot be reformed into a solid piece when heated. The more pure a piece of hash is, the better it burns! The color of the smoke of your hash is also a way to determine the quality. High quality hashish puts off a milky-white to slightly blue-gray smoke. Contaminated hash will put off brown smoke. Very dark brown or black smoke is caused by heavily contaminated hash. Hashish smoke smells sweet and delicious! Pungent and spicy, and oh sooo good! There should never be a lingering scent from plant debris. Artificial odors or a taste indicates
the presence of something like binders or other contaminates. Another way to know if your hash is high quality is by looking at the ashes. Although, you should already know by the time it reaches ash form, whether or not it was good. Right? Anyway, when pure resin burns completely, it leaves behind white to light grey ash. Darker ashes mean the hashish was contaminated and black ash is the sign of an adulteration! Not the best way to test for quality, but pretty interesting, is the taste test. No, not how it tastes when you smoke it, but how it tastes when you actually put a little bit in your mouth and chew on it! Surprisingly, it tastes peppery. Spicy or peppery tasting hash is usually more potent than hash that
is bland tasting. Contaminated hash tastes like dirt. Gross! So, how much pleasure is your hashish giving you? This is the best way to judge the quality of your hash. Everyone has their own preference and so, if your hash does what you expect it to do and you are getting the results you want or need, then your hash is good quality hash! Ultimately, the determination of the quality of any piece of hash lies within the individual consumer! I hope you all learned a few things from this series on hashish quality! Next month I will be talking about the THC levels in your hash! Be careful out there on those icy roads and until next time, keep your stash full of hash!!

The all arou By, David Bailey Snake Oil was a popular term used for medicines proclaiming to fix any ailment in the late nineteen and early 20th centuries. In fact, there were a lot of terms used for these medicines because there were a lot of them proclaiming to do just that, fix it all. Headaches, asthma, pain relief, fever reduction, cancer curing, tremor stopping, wound healing, all around ointments for the soul ravaged the beckoning market of medicines from this time period and just like today, the doctors were the best paid hustlers of the game. Unfortunately, cannabis has been lumped into this category by Western science for about one hundred years now and many still blurt this obscenity at something proven to be a legitimate medicine. The only caveat, cannabis has been anecdotally associated with helping cancer, anorexia, chronic pain, AIDS, glaucoma, arthritis, migraine headaches, persistent muscle spasms, seizures, depression, nausea and vomiting, chronic back pain, fibromyalgia, mental illness, etc. combining to a total of about two-hundred fifty different conditions. Perhaps it isn’t that out of place for someone who has not personally seen the benefits of medical marijuana to truly believe in it. That being said, there’s a lot more than just anecdotal evidence to suggest this one plant can truly have profound effects on individuals with one or many of these conditions. Let’s take a look at why cannabis may be the best “Snake Oil”, on the market. As I have mentioned before, cannabis has a lot of different compounds that can do a lot of different things. There’s the always famous THC and the up and coming co-star CBD, plus about eighty other cannabinoids. If that weren’t enough,
there is the a varying display of terpenoids and flavanoids in differing levels that have proven health benefits and then the vitamins, minerals, fibers, etc. that make up the rest of the plant. So out of the gate we have a lot more than one medicine treating a pantheon of disorders, we have a rainbow of different chemicals all with their own potential effects thus creating a pantheon of benefits. Interestingly enough, though nature seems to have her own path, Western medicine has attempted to reduce every medicine down to a single active ingredient to target its specific medicinal benefits. While I cannot argue that it has been thoroughly successful in many applications, many of which I have been directly thankful for, it has unfortunately cast the attitude that a medicine consisting of multiple chemicals is either underdeveloped or impractical for consistent treatment. While I could drone on about the benefits that a whole plant extract can have over targeting one specific compound, such as the wildly unsuccessful Marinol, someone else has already provided a formidable response that even satisfied the scientific community. Nabiximols, or Sativex, became the first whole plant Cannabis extract to be sold legally as a pharmaceutical in 2010. While the FDA has yet to approve the use of Sativex in the United States, it has already been shipped to twenty eight different countries from the UK. Sativex is a oromucosal mouth spray prescribed for patients with multiple sclerosis who did not respond well to other forms of treatment. Essentially Sativex is a THC and CBD tincture that is sprayed into the mouth. The studies performed demonstrated a scientifically significant result in symptom relief for
MS patients, most specifically in dealing with neuropathic pain and spasticity. While I am not going to jump on the Sativex band wagon and say that they have created THE product, I will say that clearing the hurdle of a whole plant medicine as well as exemplifying cannabis as a legitimate medicine to the scientific community is a huge win. To understand how cannabis affects so many things, let’s start with one, MS. Multiple sclerosis is a complicated disease that can be explained surprisingly easy. The central nervous system (CNS), which consists of the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves, controls all of your body’s movements, sensations, experiences, etc. When a person has MS, their body’s immune system attacks the CNS in various and multiple locations. When the immune system attacks the CNS it must first eat through the protective layer surrounding the nerve called myelin. When the myelin is damaged it attempts to heal itself with scar tissue, or sclerosis in multiple places, multiple sclerosis. Unlike our skin, when the scar tissue forms over the nerve it often limits, blocks or distorts the brain signal being sent. Here’s where both THC and CBD can have a huge impact on a person living with MS because they each provide their own role in healing and protecting. Starting with symptoms first, THC is known to be a mild analgesic, or pain reliever, it also helps smooth muscle contractility or lessens the spasms often associated with MS. Though the immediate symptom relief is often enough for many MS patients to advocate for its use, what isn’t widely known is that THC and CBD can actually slow to even stop the progression of the disease. Many studies suggest that the same neural insulating effects of THC
that have proven to help slow the progression of Alzheimer’s, could also slow the progression of other neurally degenerative diseases such as MS. To make things even better, CBD stimulates as well as regulates the immune system meaning that the over active immune cells that are destroying the CNS are slowed or even stopped from attacking. Without a doubt this is great news for the MS community and their families but it is not the end of the road for everyone else either. Since we know a little about a treatment for MS now, let’s discuss exactly how cannabis is able to help and how some of these similar physical reactions we have to cannabinoids can be used to treat other disorders, diseases, and injuries. As I mentioned before, THC has been shown to help neuropathic pain which is one of the most difficult pains to treat. While individuals with neuropathic disorders such as MS and fibromyalgia are often treated with a cornucopia of different narcotics for the pain, THC has been shown to block or distort the pain signals directly from the source, the brain. This dulling of specific signals is the same effect that helps reduce muscle spasticity in MS patients as well. These aren’t the only individuals with neuropathic pain though, many individuals with chronic back pain, paralysis, diabetics, people undergoing chemotherapy, amputees and many more endure this pain on a daily basis as well. What else can it do? You may have heard... but it has been shown to increase appetite. While we all love or hate this effect for one reason or another, this is huge for someone who suffers with anorexia, HIV/AIDS or is undergoing chemotherapy. Another downside to these exact same things is the nausea and or vomiting often

und Medicine associated with these conditions. But guess what, THC also helps alleviate nausea, of all types. That means we have a pretty far reaching drug at this point but there’s the always famous treatment for glaucoma by reducing the pressure that causes the degradation and as we talked about last month, a treatment and potential cure for cancer. It’s really very funny to think how so many of us were told for years that THC killed brain cells when the only thing were finding out now is that it prolongs cell life and protects nerves in the brain and throughout the body. I also find it rather funny that THC has been the proclaimed active ingredient when in recent years CBD has proven to be equally weighted in medicinal value and potentially farther reaching than THC alone. CBD is unique in that it targets the immune system, though indirectly. You may remember last week when I mentioned that CBD preferred to connect to the CB2 receptor on cells. What is interesting, and unlike THC, is that even more than the CB2 receptors, CBD most immediately bonds with the TRPV-1 receptor. This is a receptor known to mediate pain perception, inflammation and body temperature. This is only one of a group of receptors called G-protein-coupled receptors that CBD has a strong affinity to attach to. Oddly enough, one G-protein-coupled receptor, the GPR55, has been shown to be antagonized by CBD. This same G-coupled-protein receptor, when over-signaled, has been associated with osteoporosis and cancer cell proliferation. CBD regulated the over-signaling of this particular receptor. Amongst CBD’s favorite places to hang out in the brain are also the adenosine receptors where it can lessen anxiety and decrease
inflammation throughout the body. This now adds depression, osteoporosis, arthritis, cancer, Parkinson’s, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, Dravet syndrome and epilepsy to our list. Needless to say, our Snake Oil is a little more than just that. One important thing to note in all of the research for both THC and CBD, the two consistently performed better when dosed in combination. There’s a lot to treating each of these specific ailments, disorders, diseases and conditions with cannabis. While for some it may be as easy as smoking a bowl, for others it may require a much more complex blend of treatment modalities over time. While there is always more research to be done, let’s not use that as an excuse to not
read the already existing 17,000 articles that have provided all of the information I share with you. As we continue to combine the knowledge gained by scientists with our knowledge in practice as cannabis connoisseurs, we can continue to change lives. The more knowledgeable we are the less people will still think it kills brain cells, causes cancer and decreases intelligence. History Celebration Tradition
St. Patricks Day History Saint Patrick’s Day or the Feast of Saint Patrick (Irish: Lá Fhéile Pádraig, “the Day of the Festival of Patrick”) is a cultural and religious holiday celebrated on 17 March. It is named after Saint Patrick (c. AD 385–461), the most commonly recognized of the patron saints of Ireland. Little is known of Patrick’s early life, though it is known that he was born in Roman Britain in the fourth century, into a wealthy Romano-British family. His father was a deacon and his grandfather was a priest in the Christian church. At the age of sixteen, he was kidnapped by Irish raiders and taken captive to Ireland as a slave.[12] It is believed he was held somewhere on the west coast of Ireland, possibly Mayo, but the exact location is unknown. According to his Confession, he was told by God in a dream to flee from captivity to the coast, where he would board a ship and return to Britain. Upon returning, he quickly joined the Church in Auberry in Gaul and studied to be a priest. In 432, he again said that he was called back to Ireland, though as a bishop, to Christianize the Irish from their native polytheism. Irish folklore tells that one of his teaching methods included using the shamrock to explain the Christian doctrine of the Trinity to the Irish people. After nearly thirty years of evangelism, he died on 17 March 461, and according to tradition, was buried at Downpatrick. Although there were other more successful missions to Ireland from Rome, Patrick endured as the principal champion of Irish Christianity and is held in esteem in the Irish
church. Celebration and Traditions Saint Patrick’s Day is a public holiday in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Newfoundland and Labrador and Montserrat. It is also widely celebrated by the Irish diaspora around the world; especially in Britain, Canada, the United States, Argentina, Australia and New Zealand. Originally, the color associated with Saint Patrick was blue. Over the years the color green and its association with Saint Patrick’s Day grew. [13] Green ribbons and shamrocks were worn in celebration of St Patrick’s Day as early as the 17th century.[14]Saint Patrick is said to have used the shamrock, a three-leaved plant, to explain the Holy Trinity to the pagan Irish, and the ubiquitous wearing and display of shamrocks and shamrock-inspired designs has become a feature of the day. In the 1798 rebellion, to make a political statement, Irish soldiers wore full green uniforms on 17 March in hopes of catching public attention. [13] The phrase “the wearing of the green”, meaning to wear a shamrock on one’s clothing, derives from a song of the same name. In Ireland Saint Patrick’s feast day, as a kind of national day, was already being celebrated by the Irish in Europe in the ninth and tenth centuries. In later times he became more and more widely known as the patron of Ireland. Saint Patrick’s feast day was finally placed on the universal liturgical calendar in the Catholic Church due to the influence of Waterford-born Franciscan scholar Luke Wadding[ in the early 1600s. Saint
Patrick’s Day thus became a holy day of obligation for Roman Catholics in Ireland. It is also a feast day in the Church of Ireland. The church calendar avoids the observance of saints’ feasts during certain solemnities, moving the saint’s day to a time outside those periods. Saint Patrick’s Day is occasionally affected by this requirement, when 17 March falls during Holy Week. This happened in 1940, when Saint Patrick’s Day was observed on 3 April in order to avoid it coinciding with Palm Sunday, and again in 2008, where it was officially observed on 14 March. Saint Patrick’s Day will not fall within Holy Week again until 2160. However, the secular celebration is always held on 17 March.
In 1903, Saint Patrick’s Day became an official public holiday in Ireland. This was thanks to the Bank Holiday (Ireland) Act 1903, an act of the United Kingdom Parliament introduced by Irish Member of Parliament James O’Mara. [21] O’Mara later introduced the law that required that pubs and bars be closed on 17 March after drinking got out of hand, a pro-
vision that was repealed in the 1970s. The first Saint Patrick’s Day parade held in the Irish Free State was held in Dublin in 1931 and was reviewed by the then Minister of Defense Desmond Fitzgerald. In the mid-1990s the government of the Republic of Ireland began a campaign to use Saint Patrick’s Day to showcase Ireland and its culture. The government set up a group called St Patrick’s Festival, with the aims: •To offer a national festival that ranks amongst all of the greatest celebration in the world •To create energy and excitement throughout Ireland via innovation, creativity, grassroots involvement, and marketing activity •To provide the opportunity and motivation for people of Irish descent (and those who sometimes wish they were Irish) to attend and join in the imaginative and expressive celebrations •To project, internationally, an accurate image of Ireland as a creative, professional and sophisticated country with wide appeal.
