Welcome to the 15th annual bull sale. Pack up the family, make it an event and join us on the 18th for a top notch meal, great hospitality and hell maybe buy a bull or two!
We would like to thank you for taking the time to go through the offering as we know time is very limited these days! Cattle are what we do for a living and building this offering every year is not something we take lightly. These are not cattle owned by some investment company, 100% Abound owned and managed so you know we are here for the long haul. There are some sleepless nights doing research, following production records, and thinking about the next breeding option that can move things forward. We do our best to try and improve year after year. There is success and there is failure just like anything in life. Some people in the business say they are “just” cows but we are trying to make them more than “just” cows to help build our customers a better product. The management of our purebreds is the same as our commercial cows here, they walk the same walk, eat the same sticks and damn well better produce or it’s a one way ticket out the driveway!
This past December marked a first for Abound genetics as we stepped out of our comfort zone a little and entered the show ring at the Medicine Hat pen show. Three bulls were exhibited and we were honoured to be called back in the final top 10.
The bulls were weaned October 1/2024. They are developed on a textured ration from Trouw Nutrition and fed at a target of 1% of their body weight along with grass hay. Thanks again to Jessica Hextall and everything you do to support us nutrition wise.
If you have any questions regarding the offering, please do not hesitate to call us. Nobody knows the bulls and the cows behind them better then we do. If you are ever in the area, stop by anytime and tour the whole deal before hand. As in the past years, we will be working with City View Simmentals and Gold-Bar Livestock to bring you this sale offering. Thanks again to all our customers and your continued support throughout the years and we look forward to seeing you on the 18th!
All the best in 2025,
Brian, Lisa and Cassie
Max 414M was a bull that we exhibited at the pen show in Medicine Hat. He is a very complete bull right from his head to his tail, it is hard to fault this guy. He stands on a good foot with lots of heel, is very structurally sound and has a well-defined muscle shape and pattern. To top it all off, he has an excellent disposition. This calf has caught our eye since day one and we think he will be a great addition to any program.

Max 429M’s dam is a front pasture type of female. She is easy fleshing, good uddered and comes from the Lassie cow family which we have incorporated and built on in our Abound herd. We have a full sister to Max 429M working in herd right now. His sister along with the other Jack Daniel bred heifers are calving right now and are exceeding our expectations. If you raise your own replacement females, this smooth made well balanced Jack Daniel’s son is a great fit. Females that will have good feet, salt block square udders and top notch mothering abilities so you can just sit back and enjoy your Jack Daniels on the rocks!
Abound Max 422M is a very well put together Jack Daniel 9J son. His maternal sister was the lead off heifer calf that sold in the
2023 Masterpiece sale.
PF Jack Daniel 9J – sire of lots 1-3
Kind of a proud moment here! Here are the results of Abound’s first flush and true to the goal of power by blood! We made a trip to see Big River 0052 in person and as soon as I seen him, I looked at Lisa and said 934. I am pretty sure she said no you are nuts at the time, but my mind was set and here we are putting 3 full siblings in the offering. We also have a flush mate female and if anyone wanted to buy her it would be a very firm no! BARN 407M was a member of our pen of 3 in Medicine Hat and made a few friends. If you want pay weight steers and replacement females that will bat in the big league’s, here is your chance.
All three brothers are blessed with incredible length of spine which is the simplest way to make you money by crushing scales. Length is the hardest trait to breed into cattle but is the best trait because it will not cause calving issues. Clean smooth heads and shoulder points with ample top, middle and hip to get it done. Standing on strong feet with a good amount of bone, disposition is second to none and big scrotal. These brothers come carrying some punch so don’t expect low digit birth weights. However, they will be perfect match for your mature cows. I could go on, but your best bet is to come see them for yourself…if it’s sugar coating you’re after grab a donut because these guys are the real deal!
Abound Lassie 411M – flush mate full sister
Abound Lassie 934G – dam lots 4-6
Abound Lassie 424M – 934G x Jack Daniel 9J, natural calf
Big River 0052 – sire lots 4-9
Right here, right now with the cattle market as strong as it is will be the perfect time to incorporate a bull like Big River 416M into your program. A few pounds at birth will put an extra red bill in your pocket and pounds at sale will put a whole roll of brown ones from his progeny. He’s got the power and performance as he crushed the scales and set a record for our heaviest yearling weight to date. He’s got the correct profile as he stands tall with a big hip, wide top and base and explosive muscle. This is one impressive dude and he’s got a big future ahead.

When we first seen Big River 0052 in person, we couldn’t help but admire his sheer thickness, size, and base width. However, he was a bull that still got out and moved and had a presence to him that is so hard to find. Big River 417M has that same style and presence to him as he stands tall with pride, showcases his athleticism in each stride, and rounds out his package with lots of depth of middle, length, and muscle expression.
Big River 426M is a very complete eye appealing bull with lots of depth of middle, length and super correct from all angles. He is a ¾ brother to lot 7 and just keeps getting better and better with time. If your pastures are

Headlands 421M’s granddam was a real bull maker for us. She had a track record of effortlessly raising raw power bulls. As we watch this Headlands 421M bull walk by us in the pen, we are convinced that her daughter has what it takes to raise them as well. Nice clean head, smooth shoulder, respectable muscle expression and good consistent gains makes Headlands 421M a real attractive option.

A breeding injury turned our new herd bull into convenient frozen 1 lb packages just after the first cycle. However, we are super happy with the consistency of this sire group. Headlands 425M is a very eye appealing bull from a first calf heifer. He has a wide top, lots of hair, good feet and is very impressive in his rib shape.

One really has to appreciate the dense muscle pattern that this Headlands 402M bull showcases. He has a big hip, wide stance, and lots of hair along with a nicely balanced EPD portfolio. Here is a bull that we really like as a calving ease option. He is smooth made but doesn’t give up that muscle shape and dimension that you sometimes see happen in the more calving ease orientated bulls. His dam is a beautiful young female and stems from one of our staple Pollyanna cow families here at Abound.

It seems whenever we move our black cows that there is too many chiefs and not enough Indians as they struggle to find out who is going to lead the pack in 10 different directions. Profound 415M’s dam is one of those chiefs. At the age of 11, this cow has incredible athleticism as she led the pack once again to and from fall grazing. We have no doubt her son is going to get out and cover some ground too as he stands on a great foot, has a bit of added frame and carries himself with great pride. Abound Profound 415M was part of the Medicine Hat pen show and we know he will find some friends sale day.

The night this guy was born we said to ourselves there is no way she can be calving she is 2.5 weeks early. We sent in DNA testing on this bull and sure enough he made his debut a little ahead of schedule. So although his birth weight might be a little low from being early, his growth and performance can not be argued. He comes from a very high maternal cow family with maternal calving ease numbers high on the charts. If you want a Profound son with a touch more calving ease, here is your opportunity!

MASTERFEEDS CUSTOMER
It is a pleasure to welcome everyone to the farm for our 15th Annual Bull Sale and 25 years of selling quality bulls to you, our respected customers. Thank you to all the bidders, buyers and everyone who came last year to make our first on farm sale an outstanding success.
The group of bulls we have assembled this year are nothing short of impressive. They are very consistent in their type, quality and disposition. Many of our black bulls are backed maternally by one of our favorite cows on the farm, 830F or “Buttercup” as she’s known here. She was the Senior Champion Female at Agribition 2023 with her bull calf at side who was last year’s high seller. On the red side we have a strong set of consistent herd bull prospects sired by industry leaders and as always, we have a few select fullbloods that are all unique in their own way.
Our bulls have been developed and grown in the same way we’ve done it for the past number of years. They’re raised in a rolling two-acre pen with lots of room for movement and exercise. They have a feeder full of alfalfa/ grass hay and are pail fed twice a day for plenty of human interaction. No feet have been trimmed. We once again are feeding a 14% textured ration from Trouw Nutrition along with our own brown oats. As always Jessica Hextall is a pleasure to work with! On the mineral side we use a free choice loose mineral from Bulls Eye for the entire herd. The bulls are on a Zoetis herd health program and received Ivomec and Clean Up II in December.
Abound Livestock is once again a huge part of our sale with their Black Angus division. Brian and Lisa’s bulls are sure to impress both Purebred and Commercial cattlemen. Sarah and the Gold Bar team will also have a couple standout Black Angus Bulls on offer.
Our annual “holiday” each fall is exhibiting at Farm Fair and Agribition. We had another very successful fall and were competitive with our show string. Thanks to Joe and Aaron for being our travel partners and helping when needed. Also thank you to Brody and our longtime friend, Joho, for looking after things at home while we were gone.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors for the sale, FCC, TD Bank, Trouw Nutrition, Masterfeeds and Coop. Youngs Equipment graciously donates the Barbeque for our lunch as well. Thanks to Pittman Print Media and Twin View Livestock for putting our catalogue together once again.
We welcome you to the farm to have a herd tour, go through the bulls and evaluate our program. We also have a couple of other options to assist in your buying needs. Nate and Cody from Bohrson Marketing will be on hand once again this year as well as Don Oberg. They have been partners in our success for many years, have toured the bulls and would be happy to assist you in any way they can. Feel free to reach out to us or any of our sale staff.
Join us the night before the sale for pizza, refreshments and a presale bull tour. We will once again be serving a delicious steak lunch starting at 11:30 sale morning! We look forward to seeing you then.
