The Spring 2018 genetic evaluation was conducted by ASA and uses a North American multi‐breed dataset that includes data from Canadian Simmental, American Simmental, American Red Angus, Canadian Angus and American Gelbvieh, among other breeds. We are proud to be hosting this edition of the Spring Select Simmental Sale on a Saturday at VJV Dawson Creek. History has shown that the Spring Select Sale attracts repeat buyers from some of the Peace Region’s top herd’s and continues to be a “one-stop shop” for high end genetics at an affordable price. If you haven’t been able to attend the sale before, I urge you to come out and consider the lots on offer. Our best advertising and testament to our program is our repeat volume client base, and I encourage perspective clients to purchase with confidence. Our own program continues to develop with the use of high end walking sires purposefully purchased as high sellers in many sales, and a core group of AI cows. This year you will see an outstanding sale feature from the $25,000 2016 Agribition high seller “Rockstar Capone 5C” which we were fortunate enough to purchase outright. We have been selectively selling semen packages on Capone for 2 seasons now and are happy with repeat business. His calves are smooth yet powerful and topped our yearling weights in both the bull and heifer pen. Another new bull with exciting genetics comes from Erixon Simmentals (BOBE 5C) sired by the 2013 Agribition Grand Champion Bull “Come As U R Red Rocket”. His smooth make, and added length of spine are doubly complimented by ample muscle capacity. Be sure to check out the uniformity in the progeny on offer from this bloodline. The AI pen has some very unique breeding that is sure to impress, with 2 notable Americana sons we dug deep into the tank to produce. These long ribbed, liver red bulls are near perfect twins to their sires, and would be a welcome addition in most any herd. Our mission has and will continue to be to produce seedstock for use in real world conditions, specifically designed for cattle herds operating in the North Country. We maintain a no/low pressure work environment when handling cattle, and believe in temperament as strict criteria for animal retention. Our bull development program is based on alfalfa silage and a locally grown oat based mixed ration which we modify depending on weather, and growth patterns in the pen. We pay special attention to each group of calves to ensure they are developed with longevity in mind, but fed to exemplify their growth potential. Our yearling bulls are made to go to work. This year we are very pleased to welcome back Reanne Sanford with KRS Simmentals. KRS has a strong Simmental offering and some really flashy half blood Simmental/Angus cross bulls consigned this year that you will surely want to check out. Reanne has also agreed to showcase some excellent registered open heifers this sale, so please contact her directly for specific details on all of the exciting KRS lots. Once again, we are pleased to be offering commercial open heifer calves on consignment by Phil and Barb Pybus, with an added feature of bred commercial heifers. The Pybus’s made an initial offering of open heifers in the 2017 sale, and what a feature it was! The calves and heifers on offer this year are sired by many of the FTF bulls purchased over the years and are representative of make and type of progeny which can be expected. The bred heifers offered are again sired by many FTF Simmental bulls, and are all bred back to Red/ Black Angus calving ease bulls, with expected calving start date of April 20th. K R S SI M M E N TA L S Welcome to the 2018 Spring Select Sale, KRS Simmentals is pleased to be joining Fallen Timbers Farm and Guests this year in Dawson. We have consigned another strong group of bulls, red and black purebred and one crossbred bull as well. For the first time ever, we will be bringing a group of four purebred heifer calves to also offer on sale day. These heifer calves were pulled straight from our replacement pen and will be a powerful edition to the sale. Most of our females calves are raised on bush range and know how to pasture on different kinds of ground. Where to start on this guy is the real question, long spined, smooth shouldered, and herd sire presence in a black brockle outfit. This guy is a pen standout, a visitor favorite, and the highest weight per day gaining bull after weaning in the pen. When we first laid eyes on Rodger’s sire Capone, he was still a calf but we knew that this bloodline had to live at FTF, and we are sure impressed with his progeny to date.

Polled Purebred. The first lot in the catalogue from our new walking Sire from Erixon’s LAD 5C, sired by none other than the 2013 Agribition Grand Champion Bull, Come As U R Red Rocket. Darius is a nice moderate example of the “Bobby” calves as we call him, with ample length of spine, balanced muscling through his frame, sure footed gate, and eye appeal. This sire group is so consistently made in phenotype, that the catalogue descriptions are tough. The dam to Darius is a great moderate young momma cow from a former walking sire of ours, PAW.

Polled Purebred. This bull is very similar in type to Lot 3, but he brings a nice splash of white on his face, and a touch more growth. 439E has been a pen standout throughout, and has a herd sire presence about him (even on summer pasture). I feel that our purchase of 439’s sire, Erixon Lad 5C (Bobby as we call him) has really strengthened our own herd, as our replacement heifer’s this year are as fancy as we have raised. Looking back through Bobby’s pedigree and seeing his dam who raised the 2009 Agribition grand champion Erixon Cow, Lady 202S, it’s really no wonder. I feel that 439E will bring this level of quality to his new owner’s herd.

Polled Purebred. We have a couple embryo transfer cows in our herd that are consistently producing high end calves. Besides being great momma’s, they have tremendously big feet, square bags full of milk, and moderate frames. In our search for more cattle like this we found a well-known sire in their pedigree (Americana) and decided to purchase some semen and attempt to replicate these attributes. Donald is a super liver red Americana AI calf with good calving ease EPD’s, and very smooth make-up. Backed by a Twin-Chief cow that never disappoints, we are very happy with this bull.

We have recently calved out the first set of Arizona females and they are awesome. Deep quartered, nicely uddered, and very complete in the foot and leg department. Polled Purebred. Talk about maternal in the pedigree when it comes to 441E. His dam is our hands down, most maternal mother cow. Our pastures (and farm yard in calving) are frequented by a resident wolf pack, and although every effort is made to protect our cattle, having a cow like Elijah’s out in the herd, allows us to sleep at night. I mentioned the Arizona females previously as being awesome in composition, but they too are very maternal mothers, they love their babies and keep them safe.

Scurred Purebred. Eager is a down right curious bull that always approaches you in the pen. He has a touch more frame than the average Arizona calf, but that comes from his super deep, heavy milking momma cow. With a nice baldy face, I would think he will add some chrome to his calf crop.

He has a real Northern hair coat on him, easy fleshing with that soggy side, and the “Simmental look”. Polled Purebred. We only had a couple “Mountain bull calves” this year with the lion share of his crop being heifers. Red Mountain has been at work in our heifer pen for 2 seasons now, and I am very happy with his work there. We calved out his first heifers this year and they are the real deal, with tons of middle, super square udders, and a feminine “showy” look. Dominican is a thick but moderate bull loaded up with hair, and the typical Mountain demeanor, which is super chill.

Polled Purebred. Excel is a dark red Mountain calf with a lot of similar attributes to lot 21. Mountain really stamps his calves and moderates frame. In our 2017 sale, there were times when reviewing pictures for the catalogue that even Jamie and I had a hard time differentiating the calves, as they are so similar. 425E’s dam is a daughter to lot 20’s momma, and shares all the same great features, with the added plus of Upstart in the mix.

Spring Select

2 yo Polled Purebred. Every year we are called coming into summer for a bull, and we have been in a bind as our pen is typically emptied at our Spring Select Sale. We kept a couple calves back from our 2017 Sale last year for this reason, and as luck would have it, didn’t get any calls. We offer in our 2018 sale a 2-year-old for the first time, backed by our own home-grown sire (leased back from Mike Weiss and Ed Yuha) FTF Upstart “Shark” 103A. Dodge is a solid made bull on some of the biggest square feet I have seen. He is from a mother cow which has another bull in the sale as described in lot 3. Don’t miss this guy.

Warrior is out of a young black female whose dam Wyness has just entered our flushing program. He will be one of the last opportunities to purchase a KRS bred Springcreek Olympian bull. We used this bull for several years as an AI sire and have been very impressed with the females and the calves they raise. Warrior is like them all, moderate, smooth made with lots of hair.

Edition is a son of TNT Dynamite Black, the legendary Black Simmental bull that was used extensively throughout the Simmental breed. We kept some semen on him and over the years have used him exclusively on elite females. Edition is thick and soggy from a promising young Broker daughter. This red ½ blood bull was an easy choice to keep, off a Simmental first calver and sired by our own Nine Mile Angus heifer bull he is a powerful example of the advantage of crossbreeding. We raise a select few Crossover bulls and they are very popular in the bull pen. 860E is extremely thick made cow bull who will add pounds and performance to his calves. This Crossover bull will be DNA tested and registered as a half blood with the Simmental Association on sale day.
