Welcome to the 2014 Annual Housing Colorado NOW! Conference Welcome to the 26th Annual Housing Colorado NOW! Conference. We are excited for attendees to jump into this year’s conference theme: Creating Healthy Communities. Our industry has a profound impact on the daily lives of Colorado residents when developing, designing, building and serving affordable housing communities. Creating Healthy Communities begins with the design of spaces that encourage positive health habitats, but also includes partnerships and programs that help residents adopt healthier lifestyles and attitudes that lead to positive physical and social outcomes. Over the next few days, the Conference Planning Committee has prepared an array of speakers and presentations that will explore ways our industry can elevate our work to promote healthy and sustainable communities. We would like to extend a personal thanks to the members of the Housing Colorado NOW! committee volunteers who organized this conference. Their tireless work over the past year is evident in the exceptional education and networking events offered throughout the conference. It has been our pleasure to lead this effort and learn with our colleagues who represent the best of our industry.

Legislators of the Year Award The Housing Colorado Board of Directors has honored Sen. Jessie Ulibarri and Rep. Crisanta Duran as Legislators of the Year who were instrumental in championing the affordable housing agenda under the Gold Dome. The 2014 Legislative Session resulted in tremendous progress for support of affordable housing and funding programs. Together, Rep. Duran and Sen. Ulibarri co-sponsored HB 14-1017 that reinstated the Colorado Housing Tax Credit and created the Colorado Housing Trust Fund. In addition, Duran served as chair of the Joint Budget Committee and provided unwavering leadership to support a $4 million increase in the Affordable Housing Grants line item of the state budget. Sen. Ulibarri also courageously supported a broad coalition of home ownership advocates to provide reform to the legal environment surrounding construction defects — an issue he will continue to support in the coming year. Join us Thursday, Oct. 9 at the Public Policy Lunch where Housing Colorado will present the Legislators of the Year award to Sen. Jessie Ulibarri and Rep. Crisanta Duran. Celebrate the success of the affordable housing community and the leadership of these two outstanding state legislators.
