THE

ARMCHAIR ART FAIR

WINTER 2020-2021

WELCOME! Dear Clients, Friends and Colleagues… Welcome to the first ARMCHAIR ART FAIR! With art and antique fairs cancelled well into next year, twelve established dealers have joined forces to create this splendid catalogue to tempt you with their wares! The scale, variety, depth and joy of the creative spirit as illustrated here is breathtaking… yet no one needs to buy a painting. In these difficult days it may appear a damn silly thing to do with your hard-earned money, but that’s love for you! There’s a delightful story about a dealer who was struggling to explain to a Japanese couple the quintessential nature of English watercolours, but the language barrier was impenetrable. In desperation he resorted to sign language, closing his eyes and putting both hands on his heart in affection. Instant comprehension! It’s a privilege indeed to view from the comfort of your armchair so many selected works for sale. You’d have to be on the road for a year and drive the distance to the moon and back to find so many good things. Instead, sit back with a drink by the fire and enjoy the seduction! Of course, we would much rather be seeing you in person at a conventional fair, enjoying your company and catching up on your news. But, in the meantime, here are nearly 400 works of art to choose from. They are all guaranteed by the dealers involved, all specialists in their field. If you need further information about any specific items or wish to make a purchase please contact the relevant dealer directly. It’s possible that some recipients of this catalogue may be on more than one dealer’s mailing list and receive duplicate copies. Our apologies for this in advance but please feel free to hand them on to any interested friends or family. Meanwhile we hope that we’ve spoiled you for choice! John Robertson

Our thanks go to John and Felicity Rae-Smith for coming up with this idea and driving it forward to completion.
