Information For Buyers 1. INTRODUCTION
7. CONDITION REPORTS We may be able to assist buyers unable to view by providing a condition report, but these reports are based solely on our own opinion and are for guidance only and no responsibility is accepted for their accuracy. Intending buyers are strongly encouraged to view. (Please see our Conditions of Sale).
The following informative notes are intended to assist Buyers, particularly those inexperienced or new to our salerooms. All sales are conducted on our printed Conditions of Sale which are readily available for inspection and normally accompany catalogues. Our staff will be happy to help you if there is anything you do not fully understand.
8. ELECTRICAL GOODS Collectable items which are electrical are sold as ‘antiques’ only and if bought for use must be checked over for compliance with safety regulations by a qualified electrician first.
2. AGENCY As auctioneers we usually contract as agents for the seller whose identity, for reasons of confidentiality, is not normally disclosed. Accordingly if you buy your primary contract is with the seller.
9. EXPORT OF GOODS Buyers intending to export goods should ascertain (a) whether an export licence is required and (b) whether there is any specific prohibition on importing goods of that character because, e.g. they may contain prohibited materials such as ivory.
3. ESTIMATES Estimates are designed to help buyers gauge what sort of sum might be involved for the purchase of a particular lot. The lower estimate may represent the reserve price and certainly will not be below it. Estimates do not include the Buyer’s Premium or VAT (where chargeable). Estimates are prepared some time before the sale and may be altered by announcement before the sale. They are in no sense definitive.
10. BIDDING Bidders are required to register before the sale commences and lots will be invoiced to the name and address on the registration form. You will need a bidding card which is available free of charge, upon production of current identification that can confirm your name and address (eg driving licence, passport, utility bill, but please note that we will not accept bank debit or credit cards as identification).Otherwise, a refundable CASH deposit of £50 must be paid, your deposit will be set against your invoice if you are successful with your bid, or refunded to you once we have established that no bids have been allocated to your bidding number.
4. BUYER’S PREMIUM The Conditions of Sale oblige buyers to pay a buyer’s premium at 17.5% on the hammer price of each lot purchased. In addition, VAT is chargeable on this premium (see below). Please see note under live bidding on the following page. 5. VAT (*) indicates that there is a VAT element payable by the purchaser at the standard rate within the hammer price as well as being payable on the buyer’s premium. This imposition of VAT is likely to be because the seller is registered for VAT within the European Union and is not operating the Dealers Margin Scheme or because VAT is due on importation into the UK. Lots which appear without the above symbol indicate that no VAT is payable on the hammer price. This may be because such lots are sold using the Auctioneers’ Margin Scheme and, if so, it should be noted that the VAT included within the Premium is not recoverable as input tax.
11. COMMISSION BIDDING Commission bids may be left with the auctioneers indicating the maximum amount to be bid excluding buyer’s premium. They will be executed as cheaply as possible having regard to the reserve (if any) and competing bids. If two buyers submit identical commission bids the auctioneers may prefer the first bid received. Please enquire in advance about our arrangements for the leaving of commission bids by telephone, e-mail or fax. In order for Commission and Telephone Bids to be operated, we will require your credit/debit card details. Confirmation of any bids taken over the telephone must be made in writing (fax, email or post) by 9am on the day of the sale.
6. CONDITIONS OF LOTS Please note carefully the exclusion of liability for the condition of lots contained in the Conditions of Sale. Intending buyers have ample opportunity for inspection of goods and neither the seller nor we as the auctioneers accept any responsibility for their condition. In particular, mechanical objects of any age are not guaranteed to be in working order. However, in specified circumstances lots misdescribed because they are ‘deliberate forgeries’ may be returned and repayment made. There is a 3 week time limit. (The expression ‘deliberate forgery’ is defined in our Conditions of Sale). MORPHETS Fine Art & Antique Auctioneers since 1895

NOTICE TO BUYERS OF GEMSTONES/JEWELS Many coloured gemstones have been subjected to a variety of treatments designed to enhance their appearance, for example heating is regularly used to improve colour or transparency in rubies and sapphires. Other treatments such as oiling, enhance the clarity of emeralds. Other coloured gemstones may have undergone permanent or semi-permanent treatments such as dyeing, irradiation, coating and impregnation, which may require further re-treatment in order to retain their appearance. The jewellery trade generally accepts these treatments. Prospective purchasers should assume all gemstones will have been treated unless statements are made to the contrary. Recent advancements in technology have led to some diamonds being treated in a variety of ways designed to enhance their appearance. These treatments can include fracture filling, laser drilling, irradiation and coating. Every effort is made to identify such treatments, however it is not possible for Morphets to guarantee that all lots containing diamonds are free of these enhancements.
MORE ABOUT MORPHETS Morphets offer a complete auction sales and valuation service. Call in to discuss your particular requirements with our valuers. Valuations can be prepared for Probate, Insurance, Family Division etc. for private clients, executors and trustees. Most valuations can be started within seven days.
All dimensions and estimated weights of gemstones have been determined without unsetting the stones and are therefore only approximate because of limitations imposed by the mount. Estimated weights are normally calculated by applying standard formulae to the measurements taken. 3

DOG BREEDING INTEREST
DOG BREEDING INTEREST Clare Lee (1938 – 2015) and Tony Lee (1938 – 2016) Clare and Tony Lee were in the forefront of breeding, showing and judging Staffordshire Bull Terriers for many years. Clare was brought up around Staffords as her father, A.W.A. “Nap” Cairns, owned and bred Staffords under the Constones prefix since the early 1940’s. Tony also took to the breed on meeting Clare in the 1950’s and they eventually became internationally recognised, travelling the world judging and lecturing on the breed. On their deaths they had accumulated nearly 130 years of experience between them. As part of their passion for Staffords and Bull Breeds they collected a great number of items over the years, including prints and printed matter, many of which are included in this sale. Also, within the sale are items (marked ɫ) inherited from Nap and indirectly from H.N. Beilby, a noted father figure of the breed.

PRINTS AND ENGRAVINGS
PRINTS AND ENGRAVINGS Peter Paul Piech (1920 - 1996) was a graphic designer and printmaker who used his art to champion humanitarian and political causes. Born in Brooklyn, the son of Ukrainian parents, he studied at the Cooper Union College of Art in New York. He came to Britain as a serviceman during the Second World War and was stationed in Cardiff where he met his future wife, Irene Tompkins. After the War Piech stayed in Britain and studied at Chelsea School of Art, London funded by a GI grant. He then worked in the advertising industry from 1945 - 1968, becoming art director of the London agency, Crawfords and in 1959 set up the private press Taurus Press of Willow Dene. The first publication produced by the Press was War and Misery, a portfolio of Piech's woodcut images. In 1968 Piech set up as a freelance graphic artist, accepting commissions and part-time teaching in order to devote more time to the private press. Piech designed poem posters and printed books and illustrations which expressed his concern with freedom of conscience, ideological and social issues and racial equality. His commissions included work for Amnesty International and the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. Cutting graphics and illustrations in lino or wood, he often illustrated quotations from poets, politicians and philosophers such as William Blake and Martin Luther King. The Press produced 70 publications and Piech's work was shown in numerous exhibitions and appeared in international publications.
