Light. Bright. Airy. Stay True Color. Our exclusive Spun Crushed Rayon made from renewable wood pulp micro fibers which are spun and woven. A permanent "crush" finish is applied before screen printing. Tiny pockets of air between your skin and the soft fabric make for great comfort. Each print has coordinating buttons, hand painted and baked by our artists. An extra button accompanies each garment.
It all started in 1964 when our founder, Dave Rochlen, quit his day job and opened a surfboard shop in Honolulu called Surf Line Hawaii. Back then, surf shops sold surfboards and not much else. After reading a LIFE Magazine article about Russian tourists swimming in their pajamas, Dave, like always, had an idea. He asked his wife, Hawaiian surfer girl, Keanuenue, to hem some at the knee so he could surf in them. Jams 速, short for pajamas, were born and pretty soon he was in the business.
1940s 1950s
Dave meets Waikiki surfer girl Keanuenue and they start their family
California surfer and lifeguard Dave Rochlen visits Hawaii
1964 Dave quits his day job and opens a surf shop called Surf Line Hawaii
19 60s
1970s Dave cut pajama pants off at the knee and had Keanuenue sew up the fly and hem the bottom

1980s "Crash" colors catch on with college kids and become a mass market success
