The official guidance for organising outdoor events in the UK Widely used by event organisers, local authorities and enforcement agencies across the UK Published by The Events Industry Forum

BACKGROUND The Purple Guide is published by the Events Industry Forum in consultation with the UK outdoor events industry, including representatives from regional and national Government. Replacing the original “Purple Guide” (HSG195), which was originally published by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) in consultation with the industry, the Guide continues to be recognised by the HSE. The guide aims to help those who organise events ensure that, so far as is reasonably practicable, those working on events as well as volunteers and spectators are not exposed to risks to their health and safety arising from the operation of the event. The guide goes beyond the compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act and other legislation to encourage good practice across the industry. In some areas, the Guide signposts users to other sources of information that may be helpful. As well as event organisers, others will find the guide useful (eg. local authorities, health and safety enforcement officers, licensing officers, emergency services, land owners, contractors or subcontractors working at the event). There is also a Lite version of the Guide for those who operate smaller local events.
