Each year, there are certain dates in the calendar I really look forward to, and the day of the Sammies Awards is always high on my list. It’s a been a privilege for me to be a part of celebrating this quintessentially British industry.
I’m thrilled to say that the Sammies Awards is circled in my calendar for next year.
I very much missed my day with you this year. I particularly enjoy being around the incredible creativity of the competitors in the Sandwich & Food to Go Designer Finals. Taking a humble idea like the sandwich and elevating it to something magical requires so much dedication and passion, I can’t help but be inspired by you all.

FOREWORD BY BSA DIRECTOR, JIM WINSHIP Welcome to the British Sandwich Industry Awards (aka ‘The Sammies’) souvenir results brochure for 2020. Due to restrictions on movement caused by COVID-19, it has not been possible this year to hold the usual awards dinner but we have sought, through this brochure, to provide the results together with some short explanations of why the winners have been chosen in each category. We will return with our awards dinner in 2021. In the meantime, I would like to personally thank all the sponsors and judges for the support they have given us in these difficult times. All our sponsors are highlighted against the awards they support throughout this publication. To judge many of the awards this year we have had to find unusual solutions, as it has not always been possible to get everyone together. Despite the challenges of the internet and quirks of conference calling, the judges have managed to examine all the entries and reach their conclusions in a way that is fair to everyone who has taken part. The product categories have proved particularly challenging as these have had to be conducted remotely but the judges have given a lot of time, consideration and discussion to the entry submissions.
