Jerry Jordan is a modern impressionist painter who is continually inspired by the work of the Taos Society of artists including Victor Higgins and Ernest Blumenschein. Much like the Taos founders before him, Jordan was haunted by the artistic appeal of Northern New Mexico which includes stunning landscapes, unique architecture and an appreciation of Native culture. Taos became his permanent home and it is his constant muse.
When people first experience a Jordan painting, they are immediately transported to another time. They often wonder aloud if the work is historic or contemporary. Since Jerry is a colorist, the biggest overall reaction from the viewer is in response to his well thought out palette, each visible stroke a mix of colors that summons the viewer to take a longer and closer look.
There is a spiritualism about Jerry's work that is captured in his renderings of pueblo life and of the landscape that serves as a backdrop for modern and historic life in Taos. Each painting signed with an acronym of Taos: Together. Always. Our. Spirit.

The veneration of ancestors holds significant importance within the realm of traditional teachings. When I chose to depict the figures in vibrant colors, I noticed a distinct impression that they were enveloped by ancestral spirits, diligently observing and safeguarding them.

On October 5, 2021, as I embarked on photographing these riders, it quickly became evident that this particular day would etch indelible imprints within the realm of memories. The essence of this experience was encapsulated by the phrase "IMPRINTED MEMORIES." With an unwavering focus on my craft, I meticulously captured the essence of these riders, their interactions, and the vibrant energy that permeated the atmosphere. Each click of the camera shutter served as a testament to the profound moments unfolding before my lens which would eventually be translated onto the canvas.

The creation of my artwork is a deeply personal and subjective process, often driven by my emotions, experiences, and inspirations. I recently painted this captivating representation of a powwow dance, intending to capture the essence and significance of this cultural celebration. However, in my initial attempt, I incorporated a pueblo in the background that ultimately detracted from the intended focus of the artwork. Through this experience, I came to realize that the true essence of my painting lay solely in the dance itself, transcending any external elements. It is about the dance.

As I viewed the vibrant hues of the blankets juxtaposed against the brilliant blue expanse of the sky, a profound realization washed over me - the goals and dreams harbored by both these figures and myself possessed an innate sanctity. It is within this epiphany that the title of this painting, "All Our Hopes are Sacred," was bestowed upon me. The composition before me encapsulates a profound symbiosis between the natural world and the human spirit. “All Our Hopes are Sacred" stands as a testament to the profound significance of our dreams and aspirations. This painting serves as a poignant reminder that our hopes, like the vibrant colors against the backdrop of the celestial sky, possess an inherent sanctity that deserves to be cherished and honored.
