Letter From President & CEO Thank you for your support of Junior Achievement of Northern New England’s Second Annual Spirit of JA Celebration, formerly the JA Business Hall of Fame. Your support of The Spirit of JA Celebration and of JA throughout the year helps us prepare and inspire young people to succeed in a global economy. This, in turn, strengthens our communities, our region and our country. Last year we changed the format of this our largest fundraiser of the year to put our mission front and center; including students demonstrating Junior Achievement programs to event attendees. This year’s celebration will continue to showcase the impact of Junior Achievement’s programs, and highlight our alumni by launching our first-ever JA Alumni Hall of Fame to recognize those making significant contributions to our region. Our first inductee into the JA Alumni Hall of Fame is Jim Brett, President & CEO of The New England Council. Jim has dedicated his professional career to serving the citizens and businesses of New England and is among the most influential leaders in the region. He fondly remembers how during his high school years Junior Achievement’s Company Program exposed him to the power of free enterprise by teaching him how to start and operate a business. He also gained critical life skills such as critical thinking, creativity, communications and collaboration that have served him throughout his adult life. Thank you, Jim, for all you do for New England and congratulations on this well-deserved recognition. We are also excited to present Mark Reilly, Senior Vice President for Government & Regulatory Relations at Comcast with the Spirit of JA Award. This award recognizes one individual each year who truly exemplifies the spirit of Junior Achievement in her/his commitment to empowering young people to own their economic success. Mark has served on our Board of Directors for over 20 years and has quietly been one of our strongest and most committed advocates in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Thank you and congratulations Mark! Experian has been among JA’s most generous financial supporters and sources of volunteers over the past few years. True partners understand that writing a check is not enough and that their employees’ time, talents and positive example are critical to preparing the future leaders of our country. Thank you Experian for being a true investor in our country’s future. We could not deliver on our mission without the generous support of our sponsors. I want to thank Delta for returning as our Presenting Sponsor; to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, KPMG and Endurance International Group for being our Room Sponsors; to PwC for being our Welcome Sponsor and to every other company and individual who contributed towards the success of this celebration of Junior Achievement’s positive impact on our youth and our communities. We are humbled by your generosity.
Radhames Nova President & CEO

James “Jim” Brett James “Jim” Brett, President and Chief Executive Officer of The New England Council, was appointed to those positions by the Council’s board of directors in October 1996. Within these roles, Jim has been a leading voice in advocating for public policy issues such as health care, education, financial services and energy throughout New England and Washington, D.C. Under his leadership the Council’s membership and financial growth have been impressive. Before joining the Council, Jim served for more than fifteen years as a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives. He held a succession of important leadership positions, including the chairmanship of two of the most significant committees in the Massachusetts legislature, Banking and the Committee on Taxation. In these positions, he brought together various constituencies to create economic opportunity for the Commonwealth’s citizens and businesses. In high school, Jim participated in Junior Achievement’s Company Program. His team’s product was a thoughtful invention to help the elderly open jars. Through this critical program, he learned various key aspects of running a business, including marketing, profits and expenses, and collaborating with a team. These lessons have followed Jim into adulthood and helped him be successful in his career, using skills that he may not have otherwise learned in school. Junior Achievement is proud to have Jim Brett as an alumnus, and we thrilled to honor him as the first inductee into the Alumni Hall of Fame. In addition to being a JA champion, Jim is a tireless advocate for the physically and mentally challenged. He has and continues to serve on many boards and committees, including being appointed by Congress to the National Council on Disability in 2016. Among many awards for his selfless humanitarian work, Jim had a new community home for disabled adults named after him in his honor by The Bay Cove Human Services in 1996. It was called the “Brett House”. The University of Massachusetts Boston established the James T. Brett Chair in Disability and Workforce Development in 2013 in his honor as the nation’s only endowed chair in disability and workforce development. Jim was also inducted into the Special Olympics Massachusetts Hall of Fame and the ABCD Hall of Fame in 2014. In 2017 he was the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement and Advocacy Award for Individuals with Disabilities from Community Work Services. Hospice of Boston also named him Humanitarian of the Year. Jim holds a Bachelor’s degree from American University, and Master’s degrees in Public Administration from both Suffolk University and the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Jim and his wife Patricia reside in Dorchester, Massachusetts.
