Hello, my Name is Fernando Hernandez. I am a senior at Mira Monte High School. For the 2018-2019 term, I am the CNH KIWIN’S President and I am extremely excited about this new school year. Our club was chartered this year which means we have more members. More members mean more community service projects. More community service projects mean a better Bakersfield community. Our goal is to make Bakersfield, and the surrounding communities, recognized as an outstanding positive transformation. We hope to turn the negative views of our community into positive views which others will look up to. This year we can achieve this because we have an outstanding number of members and a very helpful advisor- Mrs. Samarripas. I am excited for the growth of the Ruby Division and the Mira Monte KIWIN’S Club. I know we can accomplish many changes with determination and commitment. Go ORCAS!

Hello everyone, I’m Mara Alexandra Cervantes. I am the one and only historian of Ruby Division meaning I take pictures of all service events. This will be my third year at Bakersfield High school home of the blades meaning I’ll be a Junior for the year of 2018. Honestly, my personal thoughts for this school year is that I better not slack off and get lazy, because I want to work hard and have fun at the same time. I’m looking forward to another year in CNH KIWIN’S since I’ve always liked lending a hand, making positive memories, and having a say in situations. Joining KIWIN’S was my opportunity to do just that and I’m happy to be in the Orca Family.

District Projects the Governor's Project Thirst Project is a non-profit organization whose aim is to bring safe drinking water to communities everywhere by raising awareness about the global water crisis. There are men, women, and children who walk an average of 3.75 miles each day carrying almost forty-four pounds of water to bring back to their family because they have no other way to retrieve this essential matter. The water isn’t even guaranteed to be clean, causing everyone who drinks it to risk exposure to disease. As servant leaders, we strive to help others in need. As a district, we can raise funds and awareness to help ensure that more people have access to a healthy water supply.
Minor Emphasis Pediatric Trauma program is to develop local service projects to educate people of children’s safety and to decrease the number of children who are severely injured or killed due to traumatic unintentional injuries. It is supported by the Kiwanis family and through various fundraisers like fall rally north and fall rally south. Not only does it go towards children it goes towards the training of peds doctors, nurses, and first responders. The donations that we give also, go towards pediatric equipment.
Major Emphasis Live2learn is an organization that promotes education and building literacy skills in children from ages of 5 to 9. This program not only creates endless possibilities to strengthen the common goal of service, but also allows each CNH KIWIN’S member to develop into well-rounded individual community leader and lifelong advocate for children’s education.
