Using CurriculumBased Measurement (CBM) in RTI Monitoring Student Progress in RTI in Spelling, Mathematics, and Written Expression
Why do I need CBM training? Schools implementing the Response to Intervention framework require the use of scientifically researchbased interventions. The student’s response to the intervention should be monitored using multiple measures of data.
Free; 6 CPE Credits; many resources provided! Space is limited to 25 per session.
“Nearly 30 years of empirical evidence tells us that CBM provides a valid and reliable indicator of student progress in basic academic areas, especially reading, math, and writing, and that it can have a positive impact on student achievement” (Foegen, Jiban, & Deno, 2007; McMaster & Espin, 2007). And… “Research has shown that teachers who use CBM to monitor the effectiveness of instructional interventions tend to achieve significantly higher rates of student learning that those instructors who rely on more traditional text measures” (Wright, ND).
Intended audience: ELEMENTARY administrators, interventionists, general and special education CLASSROOM teachers whose primary responsibility is to teach reading, math, and/or spelling on a daily basis, campus and district RtI contacts/coordinators.

RTI FOR SCHOOL
LEADERS
Contact: Dr. Jannette Reyes 956-984-6175 jreyes@esc1.net
Why is this training important? Response to Intervention (RTI) is guided by a set of principles that set the foundation for implementation at the district and campus level. In RTI implementation guidance, it is often emphasized in RTI literature that the school administrator (principal) must be the ‘face’ of RTI and lead implementation efforts. For RTI to be implemented as intended, the campus principal must be the most knowledgeable person on the campus on the topic. Similarly, at the district level, school superintendents and Curriculum and Instruction leaders working in collaboration with Bilingual Directors and Special Ed. Directors can establish policies and practices that will guide the campus leader in effective implementation of RTI to secure success of all student groups.
What will I learn in this session? In this session you will learn about the critical components of RTI, how to clarify misconceptions about RTI for your staff, and learn about free training and resources available to support implementation at your school or district.

Response to Intervention Progress Monitoring Tool (RTI-PMT)
The RTI-PMT is a FREE tool supported by the Texas Education Agency and the Meadows Center for Preventing Educational Risk. The RTI-PMT is a web-based tool designed to support your RTI implementation by giving campus leaders the “big picture” of how the RTI model is working at their school.
FREE tool – TEA supported The tool is designed to support school leaders in continuous evaluation of the three tiers of instruction over time, at the beginning of year (BOY), middle of year (MOY), and end of year (EOY). The RTI-PMT helps leaders identify which tier or tiers are in need of attention and which are producing desired results in student progress. The data can be viewed at the campus level, grade level, teacher level, and student level. This information from the RTI-PMT can be used to have conversations about where Tier II placements are taking place; is it by grade level? By teacher? Also the tool allows you to see which student groups are at higher risk of needing additional tiered support. The goal of RTI implementation is to strengthen Tier I, or core instruction. The RTIPMT helps school leaders constantly evaluate the quality of core instruction.
