COVER LETTER AN INTRODUCTION TO YOUR NEXT DIRECTOR & CEO “What does it take to be a champion? Desire, dedication, determination, concentration and the will to win.” ~ Patty Berg Dear Search Committee, It is with great enthusiasm that I apply for your director and chief executive officer position. Because this role would be a dream job for me, I took extra time to expand my introduction to you through this candidate brochure. The brochure highlights my 23 years of extensive leadership experience in public and private sectors. After spending over 20 years focusing on diversity and inclusion as a senior executive and consultant, at this point in my career, I am ready for a new challenge. Based on the main requirements that you are seeking in a leader, my qualifications align with your strategic priorities of: Having a passion for history education; Being a strong champion for diversity and inclusion; and Understanding civic engagement.
Passion for History Education I have always been profoundly interested in history and was an African-American History minor in undergraduate school. My love of learning about history and other cultures has been the catalyst for my international travels over the past 11years. As an educator, my desire to share history with others has been a cornerstone of my person-al and professional interactions. An example of how I am currently sharing my love of history education, is through a study abroad tour that I organized for students to learn about South African history and culture. I would definitely bring my passion and love of history education to this role.
Strong Champion for Diversity and Inclusion My extensive expertise with diversity and inclusion gives me a unique leadership perspective. I strongly believe that one cannot be a great leader without a profound understanding of building an inclusive culture. Diversity and inclusion has always been part of my leadership philosophy that you will read on page 11 of this brochure. With over 23 years of diversity and inclusion experience, my background in this area speaks for itself.
Civic Engagement Civic engagement has been extensively intertwined throughout my career. I have dedicated my life to public service, community engagement, and public administration. Having worked in roles where I collaborated with key stakeholders from the government, public officials, staff, and community leaders, civic engagement is the area where I am most comfortable. Civic engagement job responsibilities are what most excite me about this role and give me a high level of energy. Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to future developments. Sincerely,
Cassandra D. Caldwell 3

LEADERSHIP PHILOSOPHY PERSPECTIVES ON WORKING WITH TEAMS

eadership is the nexus between possibility and reality. As a leader, I strive to help others realize their talents and achieve personal and business goals. I also strive to facilitate a work and extra curricular culture that is conducive to the appreciation of diversity, equity and teamwork.
As a leader I value: Diversity and Inclusion Variety in opinions, cultures, backgrounds, and program approaches are catalysts for a productive team. As a leader, I consistently work to encourage individuals to value and appreciate the status quo. When individuals can bring their whole selves to an organization, they can do their best work. WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING TESTIMONIALS Lora J. Berg Sr. Advisor, German Marshall Fund of the United States “Dr. Cassandra Caldwell is an extraordinary leader at the global level. A charismatic and innovative professional, Dr. Caldwell inspires, mentors, and organizes to bring about needed advances in inclusive leadership. She is an original and motivational speaker, and has the ability to build bridges across generations and communities.”
Ronald J. Penny, Esq., Secretary of Revenue, State of North Carolina “I highly recommend Cassandra Caldwell. I have known Cassandra for almost 20 years in several capacities. In all of her capacities, I have noted a strength in her ability to engage in active listening. She gives full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. Cassandra further employs logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. As a faculty member and as an administrator, she has demonstrated the ability to talk to others to convey information effectively.”
Michelle Thomas Robinson Director, College & Strategic Relations, Sodexo “During the time that I reported to Cassandra as a Sr. Manager of Diversity of Recruiting for Sodexo, I watched her successfully navigate through the ambiguous waters of revitalizing a dated college recruitment program. As a manager, she allowed me the latitude to be creative and to implement new ideas while at the same time providing me with valuable coaching. Cassandra is a smart, strategic, and creative manager who will go the extra mile to support her team members.”
