This home away from home for cancer patients is a space meant to change their cancer experience forever, a space to come for healing, hope, and support. This design is inspired by Maggie Centers, which are cancer support centers across the UK. This smallscale building is located within a isolated, serene environment surrounded by both forest and water and acts as a safe space away from the hectic UVA hospital network. The 3 pavilions vary in program and are connected by glass circulation cores to create open, naturally lit, home-like spaces to make each patient feel comfortable and welcome.

This corner building in New York was designed around the idea of a series of triangle modules. The series of studio spaces overflow around the central atrium space, which is meant to bright natural light in and create a vertical visual connection between the studios. The facade is directly inspired by the triangle shape, connecting all the unique turning edges of each floor plan and folding over to create a “roof over the building.

“Shifting Spaces” is a concept of making slight shifts of modular units to create openings in between building masses that will be filled by nature, creating an atmosphere of “living in the forest”. The program consists of several shifting, multi-height residential, study, commercial and outdoor public spaces that are flooding the center plaza to create a lively community for students.

Sketch studies using multiple forms of analysis to discover the distinguishing qualities of not only the human form, but also urban spaces of Venice and other cities around Europe. Using techniques, analytic hand drawing, and diagramming of spatial and material conditions, my sketches were used as a continuous dialogue with my Research studio, History of Venice, and Materials and Typologies classes while abroad.
