SHELTER IN PLACE maine coastline

This project is designed to respond to the current refugee crisis and is an expansion of Professor Mark’s research in fabric architecture and tensegrity structures. As a studio, we must design a completely collapsible tensile-fabric structure that can be packaged and shipped or air-dropped then assembled by hand in less than a day. ARCH 3021, Spring 2016.

HYBRID HOUSING charlottesville, va

This mixed housing project focuses on a larger program of agriculture and natural resources for student across the site. Amongst the many university departments of agriculture, I have chose to study a particular slab typology for an aquaculture program. Mixed with housing and retail, the aquaculture program starts to play a large role in people’s lives. Residents and guests that meander through the activities can start to become more aware of the water cycle and how water can be improved in Charlottesville. There are also certain moments that break up movement in the circulation, such as the vitirines and water sites. These stops also serve as contemplation spaces for studying and access to light. Final project for ARCH 2020, Spring 2015. EXPLODED AXONOMETRIC

AN UNCOMMON ACADEMICAL VILLAGE charlottesville, va

This proposed student housing seeks to bring connections to the UVa community and the Charlottesville community right at the intersection of 29 and Ivy. This heavily wooded area provides a view into Charlottesville unlike any other. One that is linked directly to the origins of our town and natural beginnings that Thomas Jefferson valued and imposed upon his academical village. This project creates a new village, raised above the earth and nestled into the pine forest that has survived the otherwise suburbanized strip of Ivy Rd. Weaving walkways will link the envisioned Ivy Road Community Hub, complete with bistros, a small grocery, a bakery and a plaza for gathering. Only several feet below one can peer down onto the existing Rivanna Trail, revitalized and reinvigorated to truly show the beauty of the city of Charlottesville as the streams that once ran through the Blue Ridge pool beneath the encampment. This intermingling of nature and the built environment is one unseen anywhere else on Grounds and one that the University greatly needs. This project was a submission for the VORTEX competition in Spring 2015. In collaborating with 5 architecture students, we completed a scheme for new student housing for the University of Virginia in 5 days. Spring 2015
