Does health related facilities are sufficient in this area? Does commercial facilities serves this area sufficiently ? Are commercial activities one of the reason for traffic jams in roads? Are the no. of schools and the quality of it is good for your children or if you are a student then will you be satisfied with this? Do you feel safe during night in this area?

Parking Space

Parking beside Houses

Parking is a major problem in the area because no stilt parking or any designated space is provided for parking thus causing traffic on the roads.

When in need does police station or fire station responds and come in time? What about transportation services, are they on a good side? Green spaces and parks should be well enough for phycological betterment, are they enough in this area?

Air

Air Quality Index (AQI) of this area according to National AQI is 63 which is termed as Satisfactory. The increase in AQI is only due to the traffic nodes which are developing in 3 junctions of Rohini Sector 1617 Dividing Road as shown in Traffic zones. This situation can be better if we reroute E-Rickshaws coming from metro stations or provide them a proper drop off point which will lead to less traffic and thus less Air and Noise pollution

Noise

Bharat Emission Stage VI

In Bharat emission VI we study about the emission of pollutants from a vehicle. Bharat emission VI reduces the pollution level of the area by decreasing the amount of Sulphur and nitrogen from petrol and diesel. According to these norms the amount of nitrogen oxide NOx is reduced to 25% in petrol and 125% in diesel. Length of this trip is 4.2Km and the emission In this route are PM emission – 0.021g NOx emission - 0.336g CO emission – 4.2g

Length of this trip is 3.4Km and the emission In this route are PM emission – 0.017g NOx emission - 0.272g CO emission – 3.4g

Land

38.13 Hectare of Land which I selected is almost 98% used with housings, commercial facilities, green areas and other constructions. Thus having land exhaustion which leads to less no. of area left for further new construction on a barren land. In this area if construction needs to happen then it can only take place either in green areas or after demolition of any constructed building.

Area – 38.13 Hectare / 3,81,300 Sqm Ground Coverage – 2,56,574 Sqm Built Up – 10,26,296 Sqm Green Space – 80,726 Sqm Unconstructed Site – NIL Pocket Parks

In this area there are many small parks in every pocket which make this area elders friendly. There are almost 25 small pocket parks with area of 250 – 300 Sqm.

Neighborhood Parks

In this area there are 3 neighborhood parks for its surrounding pockets which make this area children friendly. The area of these parks varies from 1 Ha – 2 Ha

Land Use

Site Area (3,81,300)

Housing (45%)

Ground Cr. (2,56,574) Built Up (10,26,296)

Commercial (25%) Education (10%)

Green (64,726)

Healthcare (10%) Religious (10%)

Land use of the area mostly consist of housing development and the rest use of Land is following commercial, education, healthcare, religious.

Impact

As most of the land is exhausted then there is no scope of development in a barren land and there will be no new space available for parks or green field.

Traffic Zones

The major source of traffic in this area are by E-Rickshaws from Samaypur Badli metro station. These E-Rickshaws cause a lot of traffic on three junctions of Rohini Sector 16-17 Dividing Road. These junctions connects Sector 16 with Sector 17 thus people living either in Sector 16 or 17 drop here, making it a major drop point for ERickshaws

Delhi Jal board provide water in Rohini Sector 16. As per Delhi Jal Board records, this are receive 24hrs of water supply for plotted area and 2hrs water supply for flatted areas. The quality of water provided by the government is considered to be clear mostly but sometimes it is hazy or turbid. Rates of Delhi Jal Board are : • Up to 10,000L per month - Rs.0.35+50% per 1000L. • Above 10,000L/and up to - Rs. 1.00+50% per 1000L. Haiderpur 892 MGD STP 20,000L per month • Above 30,000L - Rs. 3.00+50% per 1000L.

Natural Waste

Daily household waste is collected by MCD vehicles daily, but some people opt for doorstep collection of waste. The collected waste of this site is dumped to the nearest dhalao (garbage dump) then from there these are picked by bigger MCD trucks to the nearest landfill which is Bhalswa Dumping Ground.

Daily travel of people from their homes to nearest metro station on their personal cars are less because there are public facilities available for that so the emission of harmful pollutants are less, thus make this area a little pollutant free than others. 4.5 4

3. Pickup from dhalao by MCD trucks.

4. Final dumping into nearest Landfill.

Biological Features

There are large number of green spaces in this area. As the area is developed in pockets, so every pocket has 5 dedicated green spaces which make every pocket elders friendly. Instead of pocket parks, there are neighborhood parks also with a average size of 1 hectare. Having large no. of green spaces has a positive psychological and physiological impact on humans living here.

Questions

One of the problem in this area for a major number of people is due to the Nullah facing of their houses or their houses are near Nullah. Problems faced by people due to this Nullah are following : • Mosquitos • AC gas leakage • Foul smell • Low land value Impact of this is in longer terms also, land value won’t increase until this nullah is closed

2. Waste dumping at nearest dhalao.

The major source of Noise pollution is through the 3 traffic nodes. Vehicular traffic is very much in Rohini Sector 16-17 dividing road, making it a major source of Noise Pollution. Another source of Noise Pollution is the weekly markets which held at internal roads of this Sector. Tue., Wed. and Thr. markets are there in site. Whenever these markets take place they cause a lot of traffic on roads and thus Noise pollution is increased in these areas. On these days air pollution is also inc. .

As the land is exhausting in your area so does it feels like a problem to you Do you prefer buying another land in this sector? Do you have nullah problems? When coming from office or any other work do you find traffic in sector 16-17 dividing road? And does these happen because of E-Rickshaws mostly? Are you satisfied with the air quality of this area? Do you think Bharat Emission Stage VI will help in reducing the production of harmful pollutants? Are you satisfied with the water quality of this area and are you happy with what Delhi Jal Board is providing? Does the collection of household waste is done daily by MCD Tipper trucks?

Problem

Causes

Parking

• • • • •

Traffic on roads. Traffic on roads lead to air and noise pollution. Unwanted rivalries for parking space. Illegal encroachment of space. Reduction in open spaces.

Permanent/Temporary Reversible/Irreversible Impact Temporary

Reversible

• Due to less no. of parking spaces, people tend to park beside their houses thus causing congestion in roads which lead to traffic in the area. • As there is none parking space provided by the government, this lead to illegal encroachment of areas which people use as parking space. • Rivalries can also happen between neighbors because for the right to park in front of their houses. If there is no parking space provided in a builder floor and everyone has a car then there will be a fight for parking space. • Exhaustion of land is also a problem with parking spaces as there is no barren land available, so if govt. want to develop a parking space then it need to demolish a building or use a green open space to construct parking which will result in exhaustion of open space also.

Mitigation Measure Stilt Parking : Stilt Parking is a measure to solve parking problems in

this area. In this area most of the flat which are built by builders are almost 10 – 15 years old so there were no incorporation of stilt parking at that time, that’s why there are many cars parked beside the house. But nowadays builders are developing stilt floor to accommodate cars in that space, so because of the stilt there will be no cars parked outside the house.

No Stilt Parking As there is no stilt parking as of now, so cars are parked on the streets

Present condition

Legal Parking Space : If government provides legal parking

spaces in every pocket in the time of master planning then there will be less issues for parking space.

1. Having small parking spaces in every pocket.

Traffic Zones

• • • • • •

Delay in reaching destination due to traffic. Air pollution Noise pollution Accidents Mental pressure while driving in a traffic. Psychological issues on the people living near traffic nodes.

Temporary

Reversible

• Traffic zones is a major problem in this area • These nodes gets highly crowded in evening time • The main cause of this situation is the vehicles coming from samaypur badli metro station. • The nodes where traffic occur is Rohini Sector 16-17 Dividing Road. As it connects Rohini Sector 16 with Rohini Sector 17, there is pedestrian crowd also which passes through this road. • The impact of these traffic nodes is that it affects physiologically and psychologically state of humans and thus brings health issues. • People living near this dividing road suffer from noise and air pollution. • increase in mental stress is seen in people when crossing this road, they can be seen in anger during driving.

2. Having bigger parking spaces in a combined pocket.

Better Road Network : With a better road network things will work good and there will be less traffic. Rohini Sector 17 Node 2 Node 1

Node 3

Rohini Sector 16 Present condition

Measures we can take to mitigate this are : U turn should be not from the main junction, instead it should be from a u turn ahead where there is less crowd

1. Node 1

Node 2

Providing a e rickshaw drop off point would be helpful in countering the chaos which develop at the T Point. 2. Roundabout can be designed in Node 3. As it is a crossroad (chauraha) thus it need to be designed efficiently to reduce the risk of accidents happening. As for now there is no roundabout so we can design this at node 3. Introducing a roundabout will help in developing this area as a landmark, designing this area will increase the aesthetics of this site and also that road. Node 3

Land Exhaustion

• Less possibilities of constructing new facilities • Demolition will be done before construction thus there will be increase in cost of construction. • Future development can only be done vertically. • Almost all of the G.C is exhausted.

Permanent

Irreversible

• Most of the land in this area is occupied or construction is done on them which has a great impact from the point of new buyer as he/she wont buy in this area because of no future possibilities. • Land exhaustion leads to congestion of spaces.

Zoning : This sector is divided into pockets, the division of pockets must have been done when the zoning of this area is started, so from that point measures should be taken for better division of areas and for providing a good ratio of commercial activities with households.

There should be hierarchy in zoning. Max. area should be given to housing then green then so on.
