#1. DEGREE FINAL PROJECT

PALEOFUTURE

As final degree project, far away from designing a classical dwelling, decided to make an interesting imaginatively exercise, trying to conceive how housing will be alike in the next hundred years. Getting inspiration from those thinkers who had already been thinking about it in the last centuries, achieved to create a “database of ideas for the next century and analyzed why some had turned to real life or not. With all this knowledge background finally tried to imagine our own inhalations about how will be the housing and the communities in the next century.

6

TIMELINE / INFOGRAPHIC

The term“paleofuture try to collect all the artistic expressions, thoughts and inventions made from the end of the XIX century to the 2000th year. Some of them, which I considered relevant to the housing subject , were catalogued and the result is shown on the timeline of these pages. Divided in differents matters of study, as Home, Transportation, Energy, Commerce, Media..etc, all the thoughts and inventions from the past were placed in the proper year and subject.

GEOGRAPHIC MAP / INFOGRAPHIC

Trying to comprehend how and why the society started to think and worry about the future, I designed a geographical map in an infographic way tu put everything on place. Inside all the social issues, migrations, discoveries, achievements, etc were brought up for discussion and analysis.

ISOMETRIC / INFOGRAPHIC 3D

Deisgning the future housing community was a very big challenge. First trying to imagine how society will be in the next hundred years, and trying to put myslef in the place of a tech advanced society still not developed. Besides, the project was thought in different lines. Not only making the future housing form a “normal nowadays family, but for others possible family agrupations as can be bachelors, polygamous, singles, students, elders, ...

On this graphic is shown how nowadays actions will repercute on the future society, within a techonlogical point of view. How the correct ( or not ) use of new advances can shape the future society, and therefore the way of living with them.

FLOORPLANS AND SECTIONS / 2D DRAWING

Being a modular housing, with spaces relatively small since the project requires it, decide to vanish the views in 2D, obtaining a perception of the total space greater than if it were a simple drawing , in addition they appliances can be seen with the rest of furniture .

#2. RETHINKING THE NEIGHBORHOOD:

SAN ANTÓN

21

The project was born as a dynamic action in order to regenerate the public spaces of an old Alicante class neighborhood. All the actions were previously considered with the own neighbors, trying to create a collaborative design with them. Was an union between architectture students and neighbors, trying to work as intermediary between them and the City Counsil , reporting the lack of public space inside the neighborhood. The way of procedure was subtle and suitable to the image of San Antรณn as a classical part of the city, trying to maintain their own identity.

22

URBAN ACTIVATION PROCEDURES / 3D INFOGRAPHIC

Trying to maintain the neighborhood identity, I opted for an unique design element to work with. In this case the classical chair was chosen. San Antón neighborhood is placed marginally on the city, and this condition makes it to be considered an small village inside the city. Therefore

the living way of their

inhabitants reminds the old living way of Spanish villages. All neighbors know each other, and is not hard to see them on their home doors chatting. The lack of public space inside the neighborhood force them to create their very own. As recognition of this beautiful act, different devices were designed to “invade” the streets and make the City Council to open their eyes for their lack of public space conditions.

24

25

URBAN MAPPING / FIELD WORK & 3D

One of the first steps to follow was to elaborate a detailed plan of the neighborhood. On it, every “agent to consider was placed. Active neighbors, associations, empty plots, public spaces in bad conditions or commerces, and of course the relation between all of them. With all this information compiled the project could be richer and successful.

SEE FULL IMAGES 26

URBAN ACTIVATION PROCEDURES / INFOGRAPHIC

Other activation techniques were designed to “make” the neighborhood more visible for the rest of the city. Creating a new image, always maintaining their identity, can be a way of promote the good things that San Antón can offer. With these low cost devices placed in one of the most distinguished part of the neighborhood were supposed to attract city life from other near neighborhoods, giving San Antón a new brand image.

27

28

ACTIVATION DEVICES / MODELS & VIDEO

Using the classical chair the own neighbors use to “conquer” the public space outside their homes, different modifications were thought on them to create some bigger attraction, to point San Antón in the city. Cutting the chairs on different heights or angles, and attaching one to another with low cost materials, a huge “self-growing” structure was designed. The video on the right shows other different devices designed with 3D chairs models and applying some small modifications on them, with the last purpose of creating a new valuable public space.

SOCIAL ACTION / PUBLIC EVENT

One achievement of the project was this public open event. With different collaborations as the City Council, Cultural Associations and

retail shops for materials

donation, one weekend was established to start the action inside the neighborhood. Were the own neighbors who come to paint and modify the chairs which afterwards would be used as the public space devices. A poster was designed to invite them to participate in the event, which was a success, with more than 50 chairs painted, each one from a different neighbor, who wrote the name on it, making them even more thrilled and involved into the project.

ADVERTISING / VIDEOS

During the project three different videos were made as advertising campaign on the social networks. The aim was to place the neighborhood inside the city and get people conscious about the conditions and opportunities

San Antón could offer, as the video

“Despierta” ( “Awake” in english language) shows.

#3. CONSTRUCTION PROJECT :

ELLANDSCHOOL

33

Placed in an old well known city as Amsterdam, a whole school project is designed, from the first sketches to the detailed plans for an imagined construction, always following the spanish Technical Building Code (CTE). Placed in the Jordaan neighborhood, two independent blocks give shape to a internal street that invites the pedestrian to come inside. Following this path, a wide open space can be used not only for the students, but for the neighboors indeed, giving the school a public-private nature, similar to the dutch yards than conform the city of Amsterdam.

34

DETAILED PLANS AND ELEVATIONS / 2D

Apart from the basic plans used in the scheme design, is decided to elaborate detailed plans, within internal partitions, remarking the differences on simples or doubles or even triples ( depending on the spaces uses) partitions , and adding dimensions on all the drawings. On the elevations some indications in order to follow the Technical Building Code are remarked.

TECHNICAL DETAILS AND SECTIONS / 2D

On the project everyhing must be perfectly defined. From the materials to the properly order to be placed, as can be seen on the technical details on these pages. Everything has it own number code and is explained on its own legend.

LIGHTING / 2D & ENERGETIC SOFTWARE

The lighting and installations are also full defined. Using energetic software to input all the equipment for the building, can calculate the energetic cost per year, and get the Energy Calculation Certificate neccesary to endorse the project.

#4. SUSTAINABILITY PROJECT :

CALPE IRAIL

41

The city of Calpe is considered one of the most turistic destination on the Mediterranean shore chosen by european foreigners. All the sun and beach tourism have made to forget all the features the city possess. The old part of the town, nowadays invaded with tourism offers, yearn for better times. Calpe also has very important romanical remains which are shown in a traditional agriculture way of live, currently buried because of the huge residential areas and shoppin malls. This project tried to recover the essence of Calpe, based on a mediterranean lifestyle and productive agriculture.

42

TIMELINE / INFOGRAPHIC

<< Calpe, an overloaded shore with a forgotten inside >>. This sentece can sum up all the premises of the project. Trying to connect the historical center of the city with the own remains of the ancestors, as the agriculture lifestyle, an empty area was found perfect for the goal. With different heighs of productive fields , most with vine plant, a possible path is designed , remarking the best viewpoints, as well as the romanical remains and ruins on it. All the path is also designed for bikers use and the chance of creating community gardening for the neighbors is also considered due to high number of empty plots.

45

On a second phase of the project, some market stations are created between the community gardens. Besides the old bike path, a new transportation way is designed. Using old railways a brand new structure with two bikes attached is made up. The rails move along the gardens and the market stations, were the ecological products can be bought and sell on the bike device, which can fold and unfold, creating an small market stand. In that way a total sustainable solution is achieved, connecting the city with their remains identity and hundred per cent green.

#5. URBANISM PROJECT :

THE NEW PALMERAL

47

Placed in the city of Elche we faced the challenge to propose the future expansion of the city. The current urbanism growment is make by urban rings, despite the lack of empty floor and the bad planning. Because of that, we proposed to move the expansion district to the west, preserving the palms gardens inside the city growment. New

Other remarkable aspect in the project is shown on this video. A national roadway get through the city, breaking it in two, and in some parts creating a physical barrier that fragment the residential areas.

Both, single and multi-family-house unit are designed keeping in mind the housing density of the city, to balance all the urban proposal. An organic way is designed for the green areas, which fill the spaces between the housing units creating paths and open public spaces. Therefore these new green areas are linked to the tradicional field gardens beyond the expansion district.

#7. 2D & 3D MODELLING :

INFOGRAPHICS

53

Given the name of a well known architecture example, plans, and pictures , the student must model in 3D in order to extract as much architectural drawing as possible. Detailed floorplans, elevations

isometrics,

perspective sections... On the other hand, must have the enough skills to produce render infographics according to sun exposure, night illumination, materials... to set up a realistic photomontage.

#7. INTERIOR DESIGN:

FAÇADE & FURNITURE

61

Design of furniture and interior design for two rehabilitation projects. Development of exterior elements of separation of environments in restaurants, combined with vegetation acting as visual and acoustic barriers. Facade design for pharmacy renovation with economical materials. The whole furniture, counters and show windows were also redesigned with simple shapes, giving a new identity to the pharmacy retail shop.

INTERIOR & FAÇADE DESIGN /

Pharmacy reform located in Murcia. Metallic meshes are proposed that cover the previous facade, what supposes a saving of budget that is used for the design of interior furniture. Perimetral shelves made up of metal profiles and wood allow to show the product making better use of the space, scarce in this project. Central furniture is also designed for displaying the products.

#8. EXHIBITION DESIGN:

STANDS

67

Commercial stand design for a sample of air conditioners. A modern and simple design was chosen, according to the own identity of the company. In addition to the seating area for meetings with customers there are certain sample spaces for different appliances.

68

EPHEMERAL ARCHITECTURE/ STAND

With an area of 32 m2 for the exhibition, a continuity is proposed between the roof itself and the reception area. This false ceiling also takes advantage to show the splits and other devices, as well as their integration in it. The exhibition product (Air conditioners) is also distributed in such a way that from the meeting area can be seen without having to move.
