hat a great evening we had at the Members’ 26th anniversary party; after last year’s quarter of a century celebrations, it did seem rather low-key but nevertheless it was an excellent evening with many members turning out for the occasion.
The 20142015 Vice-Captains were announced at the party; congratulations to Johnny Aldridge and Helen Srivastava who will certainly be of great assistance to Kamal Kosta and Mitsuko Emmerson next season. Thank you to senior management and to all staff involved in setting up the annual party; special thanks to the staff who waited on tables until the early hours of the morning, continuing with their ‘service with a smile’ attitude. Take a bow all of you – you did a fantastic job. Thanks also to all the chefs and kitchen staff who, as always, produced some excellent food. We really do get spoiled and there is so much going on behind the scenes that we know very little of. Finally, to a section of the staff who do so much at the club but yet seem to remain anonymous as they are tucked away, out of sight, over at In House Publishing. What a great team, led by Ganesh Mangathil…they are the talented graphic designers who work long hours producing magazines, flyers, backdrops, banners – they all seem to love what they do and they often spend extra hours doing it. The man who keeps everything ticking over is Ganesh who is also an expert photographer and has produced some amazing photographs over the years. There are so many great teams of people in various departments at the Club who keep everything ticking over and, while we might be quick to criticise sometimes, we often do not appreciate the work they do, so often under pressure.

The recent periods of early morning fog threw everything into disarray but Ummer, as always, appeared unflappable and managed to get everyone out on holes as soon as fog had lifted. It resulted in a lot of people crammed in and a slow round but it worked out fine. Our marshals are often tested to the limit by a minority of players who refuse to let quicker groups or matchplays through which I have witnessed on several occasions recently (I can always tell from the body language of people the marshal is talking to!!). Personally, I would much rather let a matchplay through than have them waiting on every shot, causing me to rush mine. It’s not a ‘given’ that a two-ball should go through but it’s more a case of common sense. In a recent singles matchplay everyone was very accommodating and we were allowed through so many groups, finishing the front nine in one hour ten minutes, thanks to superb marshaling by Romeo and thanks to the understanding players ahead.

I know that it is indeed work that allows me to fund my leisure time, but I have managed precious little golf over the period. My travels have taken me to Germany, France, England, Brazil and South Africa, so at least I am popular with Emirates Airline! I must admit however, that South Africa will not have been work alone, as by the time you read this, Chris and I, plus four other couples from Emirates Golf Club will have joined up for a spot of golf in and around Fancourt. Alan and Lorraine Main, Tony and Chris Hutchinson, Peter and Yana Jamieson and Ivan and Steva Fornazaric will all hopefully have enjoyed splendid weather and great golf. In fact this trip was put together some time ago, and subsequently Stephen Deane has arranged to host a similar visit for Club members a few weeks later. Had we known of this earlier I am sure we would have delayed our travels, but in view of the fact that it was all booked and paid for, we are sticking to our original timetable. I would strongly recommend a golf holiday in South Africa to anyone who is considering joining Stephen’s party. My travel schedule will not however prevent me from being at the Club on Friday, 11th April, for that will be my Captain’s Day. As mentioned in my last message, the event itself will be a gentlemen’s tournament but the ladies will be very welcome,
should they choose, to join us for dinner. I, of course, will have another shot at the dreaded Captain’s drive-in, but am trying to plan something a little different this time so watch this space! I must make mention of the Hickory Putter competition, as noone appears to be challenging Ishu Rupani of late. He presently sits on top of the list with an astonishing net 59!! It looks to me as though Ishu will be the first winner of this new competition, and therefore his will be the name on the first golf ball to hang from the putter’s shaft on display in the Clubhouse. So come on folks, let’s see him face a bit of competition please.

Although I am into the second half of my year as Captain, there are still a number of exciting tournaments ahead. Again because of my travels, I shall miss the Club Championship and the Indian Invitational; I am however, very much looking forward to both the Easter Scramble on 19th April, and the Hankook Greensomes the following weekend. Congratulations to all our winners over the past few weeks and the best of good fortune to each of you in the upcoming events.

I would like to thank Emirates Golf Club and all the staff for the splendid evening we enjoyed at the Members’ Party. It really was a grand event, which was of course highlighted by the announcement of the incoming Vice-Captains and I was delighted that Helen Srivastava and Johnny Aldridge have agreed to these appointments. I have yet to play golf with Helen and I look forward very much to doing so; Johnny Aldridge Johnny however I know and Helen Srivastava well, as I have played golf with him on many occasions. ontus Fredriksson continued his dominance of the Men’s Club Championship with his fifth victory in six years, a magnificent effort by the scratch team regular. He carded rounds of 73 over the Faldo and a two over par 74 on the Majlis to record a 147 tally of plus three in the 36-hole championship. Overnight leader Ewan Cameron signed for an impressive 71 on the Faldo course and he joined Fredriksson in the final match alongside youngster Inaan Budhiraja, also posting a 73. The final match teed off at midday and it was Cameron who started strongly with a birdie on the tough opening hole. Fredrikkson showed his class and confidence on the Majlis course with birdies on the 3rd and 5th holes to see him out in 34 strokes, 1-under par. Cameron followed his opening birdie with a cluster of bogeys to see his challenge fade but with six holes to go, all three players had a fighting chance. Fredriksson however,

Eddie Hesson came through from the chasing pack to sign for a 73 to take runners-up place with rounds of 78 and 73 for a 151 tally, four adrift of our champion. Cameron followed his 71 with an 81 to clinch third on a 152 total. The net category (Division A, handicap 0-12) produced some excellent scoring with both Vipen Sethi and Ian Scott firing 4-under par totals for the 36 holes. Sethi clinched top prize following rounds of 71 and 69 with Scott taking second place after a 67 and 73. Sudhir Vora stood out in Division B (handicap 13-24) and improved his 74 on day one by four shots with a 70 on the Majlis for a 144, level par tally to take top honours. Pervez Mahmood took second with a 72 and 73.
Scratch League

F
ive months after bursting into the limelight with our first victory in the Scratch League, the players had long been looking forward to playing against DCGYC in a rematch, as you know siblings do!
Experienced EGC players Ewan Cameron and Michael Harradine led the way, winning an excellent point with their win. Having trailed in the game for most of the way, Ewan Cameron hit an iron shot to a few feet on the par-4 18th for birdie to square the match; this gave the pairing the stroke of momentum needed to close out the match on the next hole when Michael Harradine put his approach shot within a putter grip for a gimme bridie to finish 1 up. Unfortunately, the rest of the team was not so lucky and EGC trailed in all of the matches. Johnny Aldridge & Petr Dědek lost 5 & 3 Pontus Fredriksson & Inaan Budhiraja lost 4 & 3 Rohit Gupta & Kouroche Achtari lost 2 & 1 Nevertheless, EGC will be looking to improve their form with the next match at home against Jumeirah Golf Estates on Saturday 5th April 13:05 – 13:35. Please come out to wish the boys luck - as of today we have had only one supporter who was Eric Koeman! We would like to congratulate Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club on reaching the semi-final stage in our group.
HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW YOUR RULES
O
n the first hole of the Majlis course, Jim hooks his tee shot towards the out of bounds line on the left hand side. Annoyed with his opening tee shot he marches towards a ball and quickly chips out sideways and then plays his third shot on to the green. On reaching the green he marks the ball but realises it was a practice range ball from the adjacent driving range, somewhat confused he asks his playing partner for a ruling. If a competitor makes a stroke or strokes at a wrong ball, he incurs a penalty of 2 shots. Strokes made by Jim with a wrong ball do not count in his score. Therefore the stroke sideways and to the green do not count in his score. Jim has to go back to the left of the first hole and find his original ball and play from there. He would be playing his 4th shot. The tee shot (stroke 1) plus 2 penalty shots (for playing wrong ball), result in his next stroke being his fourth. If Jim had not corrected the error and teed off on the 2nd hole he would have been disqualified.
The 10th March was the annual Lady Captain’s Charity Day. As always, I rely on the generosity of sponsors and players in events like this and this one was no exception. 78 members played along with 34 visitors with their Captains
from Al Badia, Dubai Creek, the Montgomerie, Abu Dhabi Golf Club, Arabian Ranches, Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club and Abu Dhabi City in a Scramble. It is always a pleasure to welcome visitors to the Club and the they were thrilled to be able to play the Majlis and to try to win vouchers from the House of Windsor Jeweller in the Gold and Diamond Park, a weekend in a Mercedes Cabriolet courtesy of Gargash, a golf bag donated by Captain Dick Purchase for the straightest drive on Hole 10 and a ‘bubbles’ prize for the Lady Captain’s ‘On Your Knees Putting competition’. Activity started early with breakfast in the Spike Bar generously provided by the F & B department. The fun continued on the course and was followed by a delicious buffet lunch in Le Classique. Entertainment was provided by Dubai Drums, a Corporate and Community Drumming group. Having seen them at an Al Noor fundraiser in December I thought that their ‘Unity through Drumming and Rhythm’ would be an ideal fun and de-stressing experience for our ladies. A lunchtime raffle raised AED 11,950 and it included the chance to win a SeaWings experience, courtesy of Arabian Pacific Travel Company as well as much more. All in all, AED
31,840 was raised for a very worthy local children’s charity. I hope that everyone enjoyed the event. I received lovely letters from all the visitors who very much appreciated the conditions and the courtesy they were shown at Emirates Golf Club – a reminder for us of how fortunate we are at EGC.

omeone asked me only yesterday if I could slot in a particular event this season but on pulling out the calendar I was able to show just how busy our Mondays are and how well provided we all are here at Emirates. Each Monday from now until the last Monday in May has a designated event of one kind or another. If you have not had a chance to join us yet, there are still many events coming up before this season is over, ranging from Medals to Scrambles to team events to the Nations Cup. I see that several of our Tuesday morning ‘nineholers’ join us now for Monday fun events – Scrambles and team events are a wonderful way to make that transition. The two-day Club Championship and the Medal provided the serious golf this month sandwiched between our Charity event on 10th March and our Easter Scramble on Monday 24th March. Congratulations to Cecilie Krefting whose 80 gross on the Faldo and 81 on the Majlis secured top honours in the Club Championship. Well played and thanks to everyone who turned out.
I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate the incoming Vice-Captains Johnny Aldridge and Helen Srivastava as announced at the recent Members’ party and to wish them good luck in their upcoming two years. I am sure that Helen will be a wonderful Vice-Captain and support for Mitsuko next year. Hope to see you at some of our many upcoming events. Barbara Head Lady Captain 2013 - 2014

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF…
DINESH BABU
A
s a marshal, my day starts early morning at 5.30am. My first duty is to fill the water igloos then set up the course for the day. My duties revolve around keeping up the pace of play and responding to golfers’ questions or concerns to make their rounds enjoyable to the maximum. The professional guidelines of Mr. Barney Coleman (Director of Golf) really helps our Golf Operations team to find solutions for each and every issue. Of course there are challenges, but I love my job. Where are you from? I was born and raised in Kerala (India) which is one of the most beautiful states of India. Most of my childhood I spent in Kerala including my studies. I completed my graduation in BSc Botony from the University of Calicut. My wonderful wife Nisha is an entrepreneur and my lovely daughters Aathira and Anjali are studying in well-known institutions in my home state.
What was your first job? After my college days I joined the Kerala Police Department and my first appointment was in Malabar Special Police. I spent many years there as a training instructor and then I was transferred to a local police station to handle law and order issues. After 16 years of service I realised that I would not be able to achieve my dreams by working as a policeman so I resigned from the job in 2006. When did you come to Dubai? I planned to start my new career abroad, so I came to Dubai eight years ago as a security guard and, fortunately, I got the opportunity to get involved with Emirates Golf Club. I am thankful to Mr. Chris May, our CEO, who gave me an opportunity to become a part of the EGC family. I was selected to work with the Golf Operations department as a caddy attendant and I started my duty on 26th March 2008. Then the strong and experienced Golf operations team moulded the former policeman into a marshal. What do you enjoy about your job? As an employee of this prestigious Club I have had the opportunity to meet many legendry golfers and other celebrities from around the globe. The happiest part of my job is that I can meet and interact with people from so many different parts of the world.

aving worked at both Portmarnock and Royal County Down Golf Club, Gareth is no stranger to working at world-class facilities such as Emirates Golf Club. A Golf Management student from The University of Central Lancashire and a PGA graduate from the University of Birmingham, Gareth brings with him a wealth of knowledge on all aspects of the game. While working at Royal County Down Golf Club under the supervision of Advanced Fellow of the PGA Kevan Whitson, Gareth quickly progressed to the role of Senior Assistant Professional; he established himself as the Club’s lead instructor and gained the reputation as one of Ireland-s best custom fit technicians. Gareth has vast experience working at many major golfing events including the Senior British Open Championship, Ladies British Amateur, Walker Cup, Palmer Cup and the Irish Open.
Pro’s Tip
H
aving arrived in Dubai after growing up playing links golf in Ireland I have noticed the importance of teeing the ball up at the correct height for a driver. Typically in Ireland, with the windy weather conditions and the hard fast fairways, we tend to tee the ball lower, trying to keep the ball flight down into the wind. In Dubai with the warmer climate and lush fairways, it is important to tee the ball high with the driver. This allows the golfer to try to catch the ball on the upswing and higher in the clubface producing a higher launch, lower spin, helping to keep the ball on the fairway with more carry.

Led by Head Professional Stephen Deane, these young golfers meet for five hours every week to hone their skills and not only improve their technical game, but also gain valuable experience in competitive play. The first of its kind in the UAE, the programme is providing a platform for these dedicated youngsters to move towards making golf a career choice.
Meeting four times per week, twice before school along with two evening sessions, the programme includes supervised practice, golf specific exercises, strokeplay and technical sessions.
Weekly Schedule Tuesday 6.00 – 7.00 Supervised practice Wednesday 6.00 - 7.00 Golf specific physical training/nutrition Thursday 7.00 – 9.00 Competitive play on the Faldo course Friday 5.00 – 6.00 Swing mechanics
Stephen comments “It’s a pleasure to work with such a talented and dedicated group of young athletes and to help them progress on a daily basis. The programme allows us to work on all aspects of their game and implement the building blocks to success. Bringing such a talented group of players together makes the programme an instant success as they feed of each other’s desire to succeed.”

I play off a golf handicap of 30.1. When I don’t come to EGC I like to play cricket, badminton and football. I started golf at the age of four but, at that time, I was never interested in this amazing sport. When I was seven, my father, Moshe Kohli, inspired me to hit the ball. At the age of nine, I started playing in some team tournaments like the 2013 Mixed Season Opener in which we were runners-up. Then I played in the Diwali Scramble and our team was one of the top five teams. I come to play golf whenever I have the time. My Dad and I often play nine holes on the Majlis together. I’m currently in Black Level in the Junior programme, being taught by Alastair who is a very good teacher. I try to find my weak and strong spots all the time; sometimes it’s my putting, sometimes it’s my iron play - that’s the beauty of the game. I am very dedicated to golf and I hope to excel in this fascinating sport and maybe one day I might play alongside the great golfers. I’m very grateful to Bryan Smith and Stephen Deane who had the patience to teach me from the very start. I come to EGC like it is home and I play competitions with friends; I think when you’re put under pressure you perform better. I also come to play with my mother (Rajji Kohli ) who is new to this sport. I spend more time on my short game then my iron play and my driving because I think the short game is much more important. I was fortunate to be picked out by Mark O’Meara at the Tiger Woods clinic and I think I played rather well.

ANAND LAKHIANI
Where are you from and where did you study?
I was born in Amritsar, India but moved to Mumbai, at the age of seven. I started schooling at St. Theresa’s Convent School Bandra and graduated with honours from H.R. Collage of Commerce & Economics, Mumbai.
When and why did you come to Dubai?
My Dad’s younger brother who had moved to Dubai in 1968, suggested that I come for a visit as there were job opportunities here. I came in September 1974 and joined him for about a year and in 1975 he, along with two partners, opened a Real Estate Agency which was solely managed by me until 1980, so started my journey into the property market in Dubai. After a brief stint in Textile Trading I ventured out on my own and started Happy Home Housing Agency, a Real Estate Property Management Company, mainly doing rentals. In 1998 as per local laws I changed the structure and name to Al Huraiz Real Estate LLC and was then actively involved in buying, selling, and developing of properties for local owners, besides doing the underwriting of rentals. In early 2000 when freehold ownership opened up for
foreigners we were appointed as one of the first few agents of Emaar and did tremendous sales for them in Emirates Hills, Marina, Meadows, Springs etc, and many other projects. We have been successfully sold about 100 plots in Emirates Hills and won the top performing agents’ awards several times between 20032008. In 2003 I got together with three friends to form a partnership to launch Indigo Properties LLC., a property development company and are today proud of our achievements, having delivered the Indigo Tower, Indigo Icon (awarded the best looking towers in
who has been with me in Dubai from the first day and we have two daughters, Jharna who graduated from Kingston University UK in Accounts & Finance and is married to Sumeet Khubchandani and Jyotsna who recently graduated from Parsons in Design Communications and is now working here in a leading advertising agency. About a year ago we became proud and happy grandparents to a baby girl Saanvi who is our pride and joy today.
When did you take up golf?
I learned golf in 1996 at Nad Al Sheba, mainly at night, and started playing in 1997 at which time I joined Emirates Golf Club. I have since been playing regularly and enjoying every minute of it. My current course handicap is 14 and my lowest was 12.
Which is your favourite course?
JLT) and eight buildings of Indigo Central on Sheikh Zayed Road, about 100 townhouses in Jumeirah Village South, two buildings in International City, 68 villas and Orange Lake on the Fire course of Jumeirah Golf Estates.
Tell us about your family.
In 1980 I married Hoori who is a Malaysian National (of Indian Origin)
My favourite course is the Majlis because of its design; it is a fair course which is enjoyed by all. It has the right balance between being too hard and easy. I also enjoy playing at Yas Links, Earth and Fire at JGE, Al Badia, etc. We are now spoilt for choices in Dubai.
What are your most memorable moments at the Club?
That would be when I won the Clubhouse Trophy in 2000 and the Engineers’ Cup in 2011, besides my other winnings in Medal Championships etc. Many golfers go through life without achieving the elusive Hole-in-One but I have been fortunate to get three in my short stint; my first was at Jebel Ali Golf Club, my second at Royal Bangkok Golf Club and few months ago I got my third at Al Badia Golf Club.
In what way has golf enriched your life?
I have found my closest friends in EGC through playing golf. The game forms a strong bond between us. I thoroughly enjoy golf trips with my closest friends and have travelled to many parts of the world mainly to Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Jakarta, Spain, Portugal, London, Scotland, South Africa and many more.

From Ben… It was a tremendous week and a great honour to be given the opportunity to paint at one of the best golf clubs in the world. I was commissioned by Emirates Golf Club to produce a painting commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the Dubai Desert Classic, which is a terrific accolade. They bought this painting entitled Emirates 25. It has the iconic structure of the Clubhouse and also I have tried to capture the atmosphere of the week and the day. It was painted live in front of the Clubhouse and the atmosphere was just terrific. Ross McConnell deserves a special mention as he was fantastic all week. Ross who has caddied all over the world with Ross Bain a Pro golfer of 14 years, knows the course and the game inside out and was an encyclopedia of knowledge throughout the whole week. This painting shows Stephen Gallacher, the eventual winner of the tournament and also the first player ever to defend his title at the prestigious competition. The painting depicts him walking to
the first tee and also makes special references to the 25th Anniversary of the tournament. This painting was created at the seventh hole on the second and third day of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic. The one thing that I have noticed about this special golf course is the intense colour and vibrancy that it generates; I tried to capture this in all the canvases that I created in my time during the tournament. I have shown Tiger woods hitting the ball towards the hole as I wanted to create a unique painting showing one of the world’s best ever golfers in action. The seventh hole at EGC is an iconic hole and you are really able to capture the atmosphere with the golfers walking towards you and heading to the eighth hole that is just to your right. The crowds are huge sometimes and I was painting in the middle of it, which was a fantastic experience!! Henrik Stenson is one of golf’s greatest players and on top of that is a great guy. He and his wife came and saw this painting on the last day of the tournament and shared a lighthearted joke with me, which I really appreciated. This painting shows him walking to the green on the legendary 18th hole, with Dubai’s iconic skyline in the background. I also painted him sizing the ball up before he putted it in.

Dear Members,
Fit Lab
As we enter a new month here at Fit Lab, we are stepping up our challenges for you all. Over the past two months we have been setting you a few different challenges and now it is time to combine two challenges into one. This month we challenge you to the 30-day Squat & Plank Challenge. To get involved in these challenges please see one of the Fit Lab team in the gym. The Fit Lab team was pleased to help out in what was a very successful event last month. We led the warm-up for both the NBAD halfmarathon and the 32 km races that began and ended at Emirates Golf Club. Despite the early start, the whole team did a fantastic job in getting everything fitness-related prepared for the start of the race which was very well received by the runners. With nearly 800 runners participating it was a fun event with some great athletes involved. We have an event coming up this month which is the Fit Lab Fun Run around the Majlis Championship Course on April 18th at 7.00. For more information on the event please call 04-4179850 or email erecreation@dubaigolf.com Last month the Recreation Department re-introduced the ‘Employee of the Month’ award as a means of recognising the great work from a team member over the course of the month. It is with great pleasure that we announce Ratna Kumar as the winner of ‘Employee of the Month’ in the recreation department. This is very well deserved for all his efforts and hard work behind the scenes. Well done Kumar and keep up the good work. We would all like to wish Peter Sullivan and Andrea Toth the very best for the future as they have both decided to move on to new ventures. They have both been great assets to the Fit Lab team over the past five years and will certainly be missed. Good Luck to you both and thank you for your hard work. As always the Fit Lab team continues to do its very best in giving you, the members, what you need and want in order to achieve your goals. Please feel free to contact any member of the team if you have any ideas or suggestions to make fitness more fun for you. Remember we are always on hand to help you stay on the right track and get even better results than ever before. I look forward to seeing you at the gym. Andy Meech Head of Sport & Leisure

TENNIS
ennis continues to draw in new players both from the Club membership and beyond. Under the guidance of Monica, the ladies’ social mornings on Mondays and Thursdays from 8:00 - 10:00 are thriving. The fantastic tennis weather over the past month has been appreciated both on and off the court. The ladies always catch up after playing with a coffee around the pool to discuss the day’s play and a great deal more! The mixed doubles social evening on Thursdays from 20:00 - 21:30 is also growing in popularity and some very good tennis has been enjoyed by all who have played. The junior programme is thriving too with many of our younger Club members receiving excellent coaching and match opportunities under the tutorage of the Elite Tennis Academy coaches. Please do come down and join in any of these social, fun, tennis events.
A
t SensAsia Urban Spas, we recognise that sometimes, the men out there really ‘knead’ deep pressure with their massage. Yudi and Agus have joined the team to specialise in ironing out those kinks after a round of golf, or a serious session in the gym. Both from Indonesia, Agus and Yudi have a five-star background and years of experience in getting to the root of the issue and relieving tense, strained and over-worked muscles. From rock solid calf muscles to seriously knotted backs, their experience and their qualifications allow you the ease of getting what you need from your massage. If you are active at work or at leisure, the chances are that your body will thank you for serving some ‘me’ time at the spa. Yudi recommends ‘The Player Massage’ with the use of deep tissue technique and heated herbal compresses; this 90-minute massage provides deep relief of tense muscles as well as relaxation. Agus can instantly calm his clients with balanced nature and recommends the 60-minute Balinese Massage (did we mention he is from Bali?) for total time out after a hard day. You can request your favourite therapist and your favourite room…. and all members will receive 20% off! Give us a call on 04 417 9820 and make an appointment.

TOP PICKS FROM THE TOURS
Fred Couples CHARLEY HULL Fred Couples shot a five-under-par 66 in his final round at the 20th Toshiba Classic and finished at 15-under 198 to become the second player in Toshiba Classic history to win the event twice, as he won it in 2010. Hale Irwin won the Toshiba in 1998 and 2002. Bernard Langer, who held a two-shot lead going into the final round, shot one-under 70 in his final round. Couples said he gained confidence after seeing Colin Montgomerie’s final round of nine-under 62 that put the Champions Tour rookie in the lead at 14 under. Montgomerie, a World Golf Hall of Famer, began the day eight shots behind the lead. Langer, Montgomerie and Steve Pate tied for second, one shot behind Couples.
TIGER WOODS
England’s Charley Hull claimed her first Ladies European Tour title by beating France’s Gwladys Nocera in a play-off for the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco. Hull carded a stunning closing round of 62 to come from five strokes behind to tie on 15 under par. The teenager then holed from four feet for birdie on the first extra hole to clinch victory over Nocera. The win capped a sensational 12 months for Hull, who started her professional career at the same event in Morocco last year when she secured the first of five consecutive runners-up finishes.
“I got my first win while I’m still 17, I’m 18 next week, so I’m really happy.”
Tiger Woods has announced that he is missing the 2014 Masters after undergoing surgery on his back for a pinched nerve. “After attempting to get ready for the Masters, and failing to make the necessary progress, I decided, in consultation with my doctors, to have this procedure done,” Woods said on his website. “I’d like to express my disappointment to the Augusta National membership, staff, volunteers and patrons that I will not be at the Masters. It’s a week that’s very special to me. It also looks like I’ll be forced to miss several upcoming tournaments to focus on my rehabilitation and getting healthy.” It will be the first Masters missed by Woods since 1994.
