GROWTH & GRATITUDE

through Serving Others

RISE BY LIFTING OTHERS”

Giving back to others and serving is one of the most rewarding and fulfilling experiences we can have as human beings.

In January of this year, Brian and I, along with some friends/fellow home inspection business owners, spent a couple of days building a house for a family near Tijuana, Mexico. Yes, we were actually the ones doing the work! I learned to use a power saw and a nail gun! Brian was up on the roof learning to lay shingles!

The family we built the house for worked alongside us to help and it

was amazing to see just how in awe they were of what they were about to receive. We were building a 3-room house with a roof and electricity. Many people in that area just sleep on the ground with makeshift structures that look like little forts. Just by giving them a concrete slab to live on and a real roof over their heads will improve their health dramatically. Something we really take for granted.

It’s amazing how doing community service not only helps those in need, but it also brings a sense of purpose and joy to our own lives. Participating in a mission trip like this requires a lot of hard work and dedication, as building a house from the ground up is no easy task. But the sense of

accomplishment and satisfaction that comes from seeing the finished product is truly indescribable.

Not only did we get to work alongside a team of like-minded individuals who wanted to pay it forward, but we also got to interact with the local community and learn about their culture and way of life.

In addition to the physical labor involved in building a house, mission trips like these also offer the opportunity for personal growth and reflection. A chance to step out of our comfort zones, learn new skills, and challenge ourselves in ways we never thought possible. They also provide moments to reflect on our own lives and the blessings we have, and to remember the importance of gratitude and empathy for those battling difficult situations.

This trip was truly a rewarding experience. It gave each of us the opportunity to give back to others, make a real difference for this family, and grow as a person. It’s a reminder that even small actions can have a big impact, and that serving others is a fundamental part of living a fulfilling life.

LINDAGARCIA

GIVING MORE THAN EXTRA

Because there are many options in the mortgage industry, a mortgage broker age needs to provide extra in order to make a name for itself. This is where Mortgages by Linda enters the stage. Linda Garcia of Mortgages by Linda has proven to be one of the top-producing licensed mortgage loan originators in the state of Florida.

Mortgages by Linda is a wholesale mortgage broker age with 15 different lenders that offer all residential loans, including FHA, VA, con ventional, USDA, and non-con forming loans.

GETTING INTO THE INDUSTRY

Linda was born in Vero Beach, Florida and grew up in Panama City with her mother, stepfather, and five siblings. There she met and later married her high school sweetheart. They moved to Jacksonville in 1987 where they had two children, Danielle and Nicholas.

“My mother taught me and my siblings to be generous to others and work hard in life. We didn’t have much growing up, so everything that we had we worked hard for. This taught me to learn the value of a dollar. I grew up knowing that one day I would own my own business and be successful,” Linda shares.

After her children were born, Linda spent the first 10 years as a stay-at-home mom. In 2003, she was looking to return to the workforce. Linda recalls, “The mortgage industry seemed like the perfect industry for me to be able to work from home and still be with my children all while helping others make their dreams of becoming a homeowner come true.”

Her top priority was to still be able to be at home with her two children while fulfilling her passion to help others. She was able to start out by working for a prominent national bank in its customer service department. There, she had a chance to learn the business from the ground up. After a year, she decided to pursue getting her license in order to go out on her own. “I took every opportunity available to learn the business and make a name for myself,” says Linda.

I CAN PROUDLY SAY THAT I AM A MUCH STRONGER AND CONFIDENT WOMAN THAN I HAVE EVER BEEN IN MY LIFE.
MY BUSINESS HAS INCREASED SIGNIFICANTLY SINCE 2014 AND I LOOK FORWARD TO CONTINUOUSLY GROWING.

She has since built a very successful business and a great reputation in the real estate industry. In 2013, she formed Mortgages by Linda and partnered with the Bayway Mortgage Group to do business as Mortgages by Linda.

GETTING STRONGER

Linda explains that she went through a rather difficult divorce in 2014. “I was determined to refocus and push through. I decided to grow my company by hiring my first employee. That employee helped me through one of the toughest times in my life. She was my rock when I could not be.”

“Today I am a stronger person because of both my personal and professional growth. I can proudly say that I am a much stronger and confident woman than I have ever been in my life. My business has increased significantly since 2014 and I look forward to continuously growing,” Linda beams.

GOING THE EXTRA MILE

With over twenty years of experience, Linda provides excellent customer service while paying special attention to every customer’s unique needs. “Mortgages by Linda has been named one of the Top 3 best-rated mortgage companies in Jacksonville for the past 6 years and was featured in Top Agent Magazine in 2021 as being one of the top agents in the industry,” she explains. “I was also named one of Jacksonville’s ‘Most Inspiring Entrepreneurs’ in Voyage magazine in 2021 and voted Best of Florida in the mortgage category in 2022.”

Linda and her team have fine-tuned the loan process to produce some of the fastest turn-around times in the mortgage industry: an average of 14.5 days from submission to clear to close on most loans. All this while delivering outstanding communication with an emphasis on attention to detail. “My team works diligently together to maintain consistent follow-up and communication on every file from the start of the loan process all the way to the closing table,” Linda says. Her team goes above and beyond for their clients.

GREATEST REWARD

“Helping people is the most fulfilling part of my job. One of the greatest rewards of my job is when I help a buyer get approved for a mortgage that was turned down by another bank. It is not about a paycheck, it is about helping people fulfill their dreams of becoming a homeowner. I truly love what I do. The greatest compliment that I can receive is a referral,” says Linda proudly.

MIKE PISACRETA DANNYFONTAINE &

In December 2022, Danny Fontaine and Michael Pisacreta teamed up to open a brand new RE/MAX office, RE/MAX Relations in Jacksonville. Danny and Mike rose to become top agents over the past few years. Now, they are teaming up and leveraging their experience to serve the growth of others. Their vision is to create an agent-centric office built on integrity, a strong work ethic, and collaboration.

Danny and Mike each bring a unique history with them. That gives their agents an advantage; they have two brokers to go to for advice, each with their own set of experiences to draw on. The result is a brokerage that Danny and Mike hope will stand the test of time and expand its reach beyond Jacksonville’s borders.

“We decided we should put our forces together and create a mega team or partnership, and that is what we are doing,” Danny says proudly. “We are planning on going big.”

THE PATH TO REAL ESTATE: DANNY FONTAINE

Danny grew up in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. After graduating high school, he entered the Navy, where he served for the next twenty years. During this time, he gained invaluable skills and sharpened the work ethic he has come to be known for.

Danny first landed in Jacksonville in 1998, and when he retired from the Navy in 2013, he and his wife decided to make it their permanent home. Danny’s first role after retiring from the Navy was as a project manager for an IT company, a position he held for six years. During this time, he discovered corporate life just wasn’t for him.

“I wanted a little more freedom,” Danny explains. “I was tied up when I was in the Navy. I did nine deployments. I spent lots of time away from family, and family is so important to me. I wanted to spend more time with my family, and even when I was in the corporate world and doing the IT stuff, I was still traveling everywhere.”

20 • April 2023 Jacksonville Real Producers • 21 @realproducers realproducersmag.com DREAMING BIG
By Zachary Cohen Mike Pisacreta Danny Fontaine

Meanwhile, Danny and his wife were in the process of buying a new home. Soon, he realized he had a passion for real estate and decided to make it his fulltime work.

“In 2016, I decided to take the leap, get my real estate license, and see what I can do.”

Danny steadily built his business, becoming a top agent by year three.

FINDING HOME: MIKE PISACRETA

Mike’s journey begins in the New York metro area. A first-generation American, he began his professional life in the supermarket business.

“I started at a young age in the meat business and became a butcher,” Mike explains. “I met a man that treated me like a son, and he was like another father to me. He taught me the business inside and out and valuable life skills, as well.”

Mike eventually became a manager, then a director of sales and merchandise. He didn’t go to college, instead learning sales skills and developing the ability to solve complex problems on the job. Meanwhile, he began selling real estate part-time in Staten Island. Despite being a part-time agent, he became a top producer.

After so many years balancing two jobs in New York, Mike was ready for a change. Between the traffic, the weather, and the cost of living, quality of life was hard.

“After 30 years in supermarket retail, it was time for a change, so we moved down to Jacksonville for a quality of life change. I always felt I had left something on the table when it came to real estate and had the opportunity to pursue it full-time here,” Mike explains.

After arriving in Jacksonville in 2018, Mike quickly became a top producer.

“We came here for quality of life, and that is certainly what we found, without a doubt,” Mike beams.

APPROACH TO REAL ESTATE

Danny and Mike have become top agents through hard work, follow-through, and a client-focused approach, allowing them to run a predominantly referral-based business.

As leaders, they continue to drive their own sales businesses while remaining available for their agents. Danny and Mike see themselves as coaches, mentors, and guides.

Danny and Mike have differences, too. Their backgrounds are quite unique, and their skillsets are diverse. That gives them a more well-rounded approach as leaders.

“My favorite thing [about real estate] has always been helping people,” Danny says. “I feel like I am servant-hearted and [love] helping people and seeing the joy on their faces. Everyone says that listings are the cream of the crop, and they are really great, but watching a first-time home buyer get the key to their first house — nothing beats that.”

Jacksonville Real Producers • 23 realproducersmag.com
WE DECIDED WE SHOULD PUT OUR FORCES TOGETHER & CREATE A MEGA TEAM OR PARTNERSHIP, & THAT IS WHAT WE ARE DOING.
-DANNY

“When we go to help our agents, it’s not two guys that own a brokerage and are just brokers. These are two guys that are top-producing agents and have been in the trenches and have learned. We try to share everything that we have with our agents to try to help them get to the next level,” Mike adds. “Danny had one way of how he got to where he is, and I have one way of how I got to where I am, so agents have two different ways to work off and two different personalities. Maybe you need help with social media, so you’re going to go to Danny. Or you need help because you just moved here, don’t know anyone, and need to build your base. So you may want to focus on For Sale by Owners or expired listings, so you’re going to come to me. Having two brokers there helps set us apart.”

FUN FACTS

Danny was a DJ for seven years while in the Navy. He’s also known for the colorful shirts he wears. “Being in the Navy, I had to wear a uniform every day for 20 years, and it was very plain — blacks, blues, grays, and that’s it. When I got out of the Navy, I decided I needed a little more expression, and I started wearing colors… I like to express myself.”

A LASTING LEGACY

Danny and Mike’s journey as brokers has just begun. One of their big goals is to open five offices in the next five years. Even more importantly, they hope to be remembered for who they are as human beings.

“I want to be known for being selfless,” Danny says.

“I feel in my heart that if someone needs something and I have it, I am free to give it at my will.”

“I want to be remembered for being a good friend,” Mike says. “I think I am loyal to the core, and friends know that if they need anything, they can call on me and count on me to be there. What you get from me is exactly what you see. Danny and I both wear our hearts on our sleeves.”

Mike had a passion for martial arts for many years, becoming an instructor and engaging his kids in the practice. He also worked with children with special needs as an instructor.

rising star

ELAINE MORGIN has the down-to-earth Midwest charm that’s instantly endearing. Having sold more than fifty homes with Coldwell Banker Vanguard Realty last year alone, her strong work ethic is a given. But to understand Elaine and how she’s risen to the top of one of Florida’s most competitive real estate markets, we’d have to go back to the 1990s in a small town outside Gary, Indiana.

“My parents have owned and operated a successful real estate brokerage in Indiana for nearly forty years. As a kid, I spent Saturdays preparing the listings book for the following week, adding Polaroid pictures and taped-down descriptions to an eight-inch binder, which was the only way to see homes for sale back then,” Elaine recalls. In high school, she answered phones, booked appointments, and helped with open houses on the weekends. So, her passion for matching people with homes comes natu rally. “Growing up in the business, I was inspired by my parents’ dedication and love for helping families buy and sell their homes.”

THE DISNEY ADVENTURE

Elaine went to college at the University of Southern Indiana, intending to become a teacher, but she knew small-town life wasn’t for her. She wanted to go some place new and exciting, which led to an internship at Walt Disney World, that turned into an amazing ten-year adventure. Elaine says, “One year at Walt Disney World is equal to seven years of life lessons. It was a whirlwind of interactions with so many different people that you immediately learn to be efficient and to solve problems by thinking outside the box.”

MILITARY LIFE AND THE HOME-BUYING PROCESS

After a decade at Disney, it was Elaine’s love for the Chicago Bears that ultimately led her to Jacksonville. “I came to town for a Jags versus Bears game, and that’s where I met my husband, Vincent. He’d just returned from his first deployment, and I knew nothing about military life back then,” she says. Elaine definitely knows about it now, having lived at Mayport for eleven years, and it was actually her own experience as a VA homebuyer that brought her full circle in her career. Not to mention the vast network of military families she’s helped buy and sell over the years.

Jacksonville Real Producers • 29 realproducersmag.com

She quickly learned the hard work and challenges involved with being a military family after they married and began the home-buying process.

“In 2014, we tried several times to purchase a home, and I was struck by how difficult it was for military members to be seen and heard in the process. Our offers were overlooked due to misunderstandings on the requirements,” Elaine says.

That was the turning point that revealed her mission in life.

EDUCATING AND ADVOCATING FOR SERVICE MEMBERS

Elaine explains, “I wanted to put my experience in real estate and my passion for teaching to work for our service members. It’s so important that they’re seen and heard in this fast-paced market and that the strength of the VA buyer does not go unnoticed.”

She continues, “I enjoy teaching service members who received the VA loan benefits to strategize their purchase with their

ever-changing lifestyle in mind. It’s so important to me to educate them on their options and get them set up for their next move. Guiding them through the adventure of buying and selling is what I love.” Elaine fiercely defends service members who earned the VA loan, ensuring the listing agent fully understands the benefit of working with a VA buyer so they can win the home. She has a deep connection to the process and a natural tendency toward staying connected to her past customers long after they’ve unpacked.

LIVING THE GOOD LIFE

When Elaine isn’t selling homes, she enjoys the simple things in life. Her CrossFit Jax community helps her stay in shape and keep her head in the game. As a family, Elaine, Vincent, and her daughter Estella love exploring parks and enjoying the natural beauty that makes Northeast Florida such a fantastic place to live. Of course, a trip downtown to explore the city and all its offerings is a nice change of pace every so often, but ultimately, the beaches are her favorite part of town. An afternoon at the beach with her toes in the sand or out on the water is all she needs to recharge.

“If there’s a boat involved, we’re down,” she beams.

THE FUTURE AHEAD

In regards to the future, Elaine is ready for it. “I plan to continue growing my team and fighting off the old wives’ tales about the VA loan by educating and advocating for our service members. My most important job is raising our daughter to be the best human possible. I tell her my motto is when you’re loyal and honest: ‘the possibilities are endless.’”

Elaine discovered her purpose in life by returning to her roots and putting her degree in education to great use. She considers herself lucky to have built such an incredible book of business, one family at a time.

From the Bronx to Miami to Jacksonville, REALTOR® and Bambino Buddy Ball Coach, Shaun Lewis Keeps His Head in the Game

When Shaun Lewis left his hometown, the Bronx, NY, for college with his thengirlfriend now-wife, Anika, and a few friends, for college in Miami “to experience new things,” he certainly didn’t envision where the couple would be today. Back then, he was simply trying to figure out how to navigate college life away from home for the first time—buying food, doing laundry, learning to manage money.

There was no way to know in 2005 that today he would be a Jacksonville REALTOR® with RE/ MAX Connects, a father of three, and a baseball coach for differently-abled children, all while raising his own differently-abled twin.

BECOMING PARENTS

Shaun and Anika left Miami for Jacksonville when Shaun decided to transfer to Jacksonville University in 2006 to play football at the school. Anika enrolled in a nursing program there. The pair had to grow up fast. “I remember sitting with Anika in a downtown Jacksonville parking lot in our car wondering where we’d live and how we’d do in a city neither of us had ever visited,” he reflects. The couple managed. Shaun played football as a walk-on; he earned his playing time and soon earned a starting position at defensive end. “I eventually played in every game and held a major role helping turn the program around,” he shares.

After they graduated, Shaun with a bachelor’s degree in business management and Anika with a nursing degree, they both began working. Then, in 2014, they became the parents of twin boys, Cason and Carter, who turned eight last October. Then along came their now two-year-old daughter, “boss baby,” Chloe.

Cason and Carter were born at 25 weeks and five days. Both have faced their own challenges early on in life. Cason has cerebral palsy and is non-verbal in a wheelchair while Carter has had to navigate unseen learning challenges. At birth, both boys had brain bleeds because they were so premature. Cason did fine in the hospital; he only had minor hernia surgery. Carter, however, had multiple surgeries and came home with a shunt. In all, the family spent four and a half months in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). “It was the longest four and a half months of our lives,” Shaun shares. “We spent time with the boys every night. We would both leave work to head downtown to the hospital, and we would just sit and take turns holding our boys until it was time to go home. Then we’d wake up and do it all over again.”

In 2015, Shaun decided to change his career track. He left his role in the corporate world and became a REALTOR® to have more availability for his family. Today, now eight years in, he continues to grow his business in Northeast Florida. Shaun is a relationship-builder and loves his career. He believes that relationships are much more important than just closing a transaction. He explains, “People are trusting me with their biggest asset while going through what may be a major lifestyle change. Marriage, empty nesters, divorce, firsttime buyers, and so on. It’s just as important to me as it is for them.”

THE BAMBINO BUDDY BALL LEAGUE

As the boys grew older, Shaun searched for activities for Cason–as Carter plays soccer, basketball, and football–and realized there were not a lot of sports activities for differently-abled children. Then Anika found Buddy Ball through a social media connection. “A social worker my wife knows asked on Facebook if Cason would like to play Buddy Ball,” Shaun says. “I thought it would be cool, different. Then the director, Jamie Donahue, asked if I would be interested in volunteering.”

Shaun is dedicated to providing a fun, fulfilling life for his family. Shaun’s twin boys were his inspiration for becoming a coach with Bambino Buddy Ball.

“It’s always been tough to do anything outside of real estate, but I said I would start saying ‘yes’ more, so I said ‘yes’, and coaching the league has been the best experience I’ve ever had. Being out on the baseball field for an hour has allowed me to be a big kid—not “Dad Shaun” or “Real Estate Shaun”. I dance around, joke with everyone, and do the wave with the crowd,” says Shaun. He coaches the league alongside Josh Scott and Peyton Hopson.

It is likely Shaun shared his personality with Cason because he has his own way of joking around, snickering when he wants you to know he’s cracking a joke. “Cason is also a flirt,” Shaun says of his son. “Everyone loves him.

At restaurants, Cason is known to smile or blow kisses at those seated nearby. He also loves to hang with me and watch sports on TV or play video games. I love to see how the bond he has with his twin brother and baby sister evolves as they grow together. It gives my wife and I peace to know that Cason, Carter and Chloe will always have each other.”

Shaun continues, “For me as a coach, it’s being able to see the whole picture, seeing the kids go from not even wanting to stand at the plate to not only hitting the ball, but hitting the ball without a tee; it’s amazing. That kid might have a special condition, and now he or she is swinging at the ball while standing alone at the plate.

That right there is what it’s all about. Having a space for the kids to share the experiences that sports have to offer.”

“This, by far, in my 35 years, has been the most fulfilling experience I’ve had. I am able to coach my son while also spending time

with other differently-abled children and witnessing them experience the same joys I was blessed to experience from sports my whole life,” shares Shaun.

CHANGING PERCEPTIONS OF THE DIFFERENTLY-ABLED

“I think everything I’ve experienced since leaving home has helped me understand that the best things in life happen just outside of your comfort zone,” Shaun says. The other rewarding aspect of the Bambino Buddy Ball League, according to Shaun, is watching how engaging with differently-abled children affects those who volunteer, often baseball players from around the league who volunteer for community service hours. “The kids go out there for community service and leave with a new perspective of life. Sometimes the buddies become good friends with the players. They form bonds, which expands their worldviews,” he says.

Shaun explains, “My hope is that they can take what they learn back to their schools and parks and help others understand and accept those who are differently-abled. That they can show others that getting to know someone with differing abilities is okay.”

I will never forget being about 10 years old, sitting on my father’s shoulders sing ing “Drops of Jupiter” by Train in the Palm Beach amphitheater! This is a memory I will cherish for as long as I live.

fortunate to see the Eagles again, they created a very limited Hotel California show (3 nights only) in Las Vegas with many of the founding members plus Vince Gill and Glenn Frey’s son, Deacon. This show was incredible and definitely one of my favorites. In addition, I have seen Shinedown about 15 times, they are my absolute favorite band hands down. They are amazing live, and I always have a great time at their shows. I have seen them in Jax and Orlando several times, also in Biloxi, Tampa, St Aug, Las Vegas, and Nashville.

I’m a HUGE lover of music and have been to many concerts. But, my favorite concert was Garth Brooks at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, KY. Some of my favorite memories are of my dad and me sitting in the car listening to Garth Brooks. My dad would describe what the “stories” were within the music. For a while, Garth Brooks said he retired and was not doing concerts anymore. I dreamt of seeing him in person. In 2017 he resumed his tours, and I finally got to see him in Louisville. The concert was so powerful it made me cry happy tears! Each song reminded me of great memories of my dad and my adolescence.

JENNA FISHER

Best concert, Elton John and Billy Joel together. I can’t remember if it was in Jacksonville or Tallahassee, but I think Jacksonville.

PS. Take your kids to a concert, it will be stored in their long-term memory bank!
