Any treatment available on the NHS should not be refused by your dentist and then offered to private clients only and a reputable dentist should not charge you a private rate if you clinically need a dental treatment that is readily available on the NHS. There is no difference in quality of service and treatment. A treatment on the NHS is identical to a private treatment. When discussing your treatment needs with a dentist they will advise if the treatment is clinically necessary and available on the NHS. Sometimes you may opt for additional dental treatments privately based on any none-clinical requirements. For example, teeth whitening is not available on the NHS but you may decide that it is a treatment you want to have in order to enhance the appearance of your teeth. Simple pricing There are 3 bands of prices for NHS dental treatment based on the complexity of the treatment required. The pricing is very simple and you only pay one charge for each course of treatment. This means that if your treatment covers more than one session or you need additional treatment within two months of the original treatment, you only pay once as longs as the additional treatment falls within the same charge band. Some people may be legible for free or subsidised dental treatment such as under 18s, expectant and nursing mothers, students, and patients on certain benefits.
