Let Your Imagination Spin Wild! Welcome to the 2012 MAIN ST. Fort Worth Arts Festival! Prepare yourself for a dizzying variety of art, entertainment and food – from jewelry to jazz to jambalaya. Presented by Coors Distributing Company of Fort Worth and produced by Downtown Fort Worth Initiatives, Inc., the celebration runs the full nine blocks from the Tarrant County Courthouse to the Fort Worth Convention Center. Of course, you can’t see and hear everything, so we’ve prepared this guide to help you plan your MAIN ST. experience. Check out the list of 200+ artists at the festival. Choose from more than 300 fabulous performances. And select your favorites from our menu of mouth-watering cuisine. Whether you’re a MAIN ST. veteran or this is your first time at the festival, you’re sure to make some lasting memories here.

Downtown Fort Worth and MAIN ST. Grew Up Together. From the beginning, the mission of the MAIN ST. Fort Worth Arts Festival was to showcase Downtown Fort Worth. The festival began in 1986 as the vision of Robert Bass, and it has grown to become the top-ranked arts festival in Texas and one of the top three in the U.S. Downtown Fort Worth has evolved, too, and today is acknowledged to be one of the most vibrant urban areas in the country. In Sundance Square, you can explore 35 historic blocks filled with great restaurants, shops, night spots, performance spaces, movies and galleries. Head toward the south end of Downtown for more cool clubs and restaurants, plus the Omni Fort Worth Hotel, the Sheraton Fort Worth Spa and Hotel, and the Water Gardens.

So Many Awards, We’re Blushing.

Max Piper

MAIN ST. competed with the world’s top festivals and events to win the 2011 Grand Pinnacle Award, and more than a dozen others, at the International Festivals and Events (IFEA) Conference. In fact, MAIN ST. has won the Grand Pinnacle Award (best in its class) for the third time in four years for its marketing and promotions. We also took home a record 21 awards at the Texas Festival and Events Association Annual Conference, and received the top award, the Zenith, for the fourth straight year. What’s our secret? Hard work, unbridled creativity and a dedicated crew of wonderful volunteers.

Going Live on MAIN ST.

CBS 11 News will broadcast live from the festival each day, weather permitting. You can watch the live newscasts on the stage at the corner of Main and 3rd Streets. Plus, stop by after the broadcasts on Saturday and Sunday to meet members of the CBS 11 and TXA 21 on-air team: Friday: 4 – 6:30 p.m. Saturday: 11 a.m. – noon Sunday: 11 a.m. – noon

Put MAIN ST. on your iPhone. View the artists’ work, explore artists by medium and quickly find individual booths with pinpoint accuracy. Check out the entertainment schedule, too. Nice Things to Know

Festival Information Booth

Got questions? This is the place to go! Presented by The T, the MAIN ST. Information Booth is located on Main between 3rd and 4th Streets. Discover everything you need to know about MAIN ST., Sundance Square, Downtown restaurants and shops, plus the transportation options available around Fort Worth.

Festival Schedule Food and beverage coupon sales end 30 minutes before the close of the festival each evening. The MAIN ST. Creates! area closes at approximately 8:00 p.m. each evening except Sunday, when it closes at 6:00 p.m. Exhibiting artists are allowed to close at 8 p.m. (6 p.m. on Sunday), but many of the artists choose to stay open much later to participate in the evening’s festivities. A tip for art shoppers: seek out these “night owls” and enjoy the opportunity to spend more quality time with them.

Food, Beverage and Activity Coupons

All food and beverage purchases are by coupon only. Coupons are also necessary to participate in many of the activities at “MAIN ST. Creates!” (although several activities are free). Coupons are available at the red booths located conveniently throughout the festival grounds. All booths accept American Express, MasterCard and Visa. A strip of 10 coupons is $10, and individual coupons cost $1. If you need cash, ATM machines are located throughout the festival. Food and beverage coupon sales end 30 minutes before the close of the festival each evening. Sorry, there are no refunds. DFWII is a charitable organization, and unused tickets may be considered a donation to help us continue to make Downtown a great place to live, work and play. Check with your tax advisor about the tax benefits resulting from the donation of your unused tickets.

The Biggest Gallery in the U.S. Fine Arts & Crafts Showcase The nationally recognized art showcase takes center stage, transforming Downtown Fort Worth into the biggest outdoor art gallery in the country. From the Tarrant County Courthouse to the Fort Worth Convention Center, MAIN ST. artists weave a diverse blend of colors, textures and shapes. For art lovers, this is paradise. And the artists love it, too – millions of dollars in art is sold at the festival each year. This a juried art fair, which means that artists must submit their work to a jury of experts before exhibiting here. The 2012 Artist Selection Jury – William Bailey, Anitra Blayton, Chris Dahlquist, Michael Pavlovsky and Pam Summers– did an outstanding job this year. Of the 1400 artists who applied to exhibit at this year’s festival, only 225 were chosen for exhibition. Mediums range from sculpture, painting and photography to woodcarvings, glasswork, jewelry, fashion and multimedia.

Artist Spotlight Marian “Mimi” Damrauer, 2011 Best of Show Winner In 2011, for the second straight year, fiber artist Mimi Damrauer received the top honor at our festival. She’s best known for her textile collages of circles, lines and squares. All of her art is handmade and incorporates her colorful, hand-dyed fabrics. “I am inspired by looking around me at the sidewalk cracks, the way old bricks lay out, the crooked lines of a telephone pole in India, the color of the ocean in Costa Rica or the stones on the beach in Italy.” Be sure to visit her booth for the latest work!

On the first day of the show, another jury will select the best of the 2012 Exhibiting Artists, so look for the booths displaying prize banners. MAIN ST. will award more than $10,000 in prize money to artists this year. Don’t miss our Emerging Artists on 3rd Street. They’re just starting out as exhibiting artists, but we think you’ll agree that they demonstrate plenty of skill and talent.

Keep an eye out for the special “Collector’s Tags” on our artist booth signs. These tags indicate purchases have been made here by members of our Collector’s Club. Members of this exclusive group commit to spending between $150 and $500 on art at the festival. They also enjoy fun social opportunities and a special reception and viewing of the Gerald Albright concert on Thursday night. Check out more information online to see how you can join this weekend, or become a member in 2013!

Kids Get Creative

MAIN ST. Educational Programs Growing Young Artists This successful outreach program brings the talents of MAIN ST. artists and the opportunities of the festival to middle and high school students in the Fort Worth ISD. This program has two components, each supported by a grant from XTO Energy: Artist-in-Residence Program Several of our 2012 MAIN ST. artists will visit area schools to show their work and give insights to students about a career in visual art. Selected students will visit MAIN ST. and get a “behind the scenes” look at the operations of a major arts festival.

Young People’s Art Fair Support the next generation of artists! The Young People’s Art Fair – located in the “MAIN ST. Creates!” area – features the work of more than 300 young artists from the Fort Worth community. The fair will be held on Saturday and Sunday, April 21 and 22, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Children must be accompanied by a parent at all times during the show. Last year, more than 200 young artists sold more than $8,000 worth of art!

Says

A Greener Fort Worth MAIN ST. Environmental Efforts “Go Green” Initiative. We’re working hard to reduce our carbon footprint through partnerships with the Tarrant Regional Water District, Green Mountain Energy, Waste Management, Inc. and Bicycles, Inc. In 2011, we recycled over 80% of the bottles and cans left behind at the festival. To reduce our use of public landfills, we use biodegradable plates, cups and eating utensils. Festival staff also recycles 100% of the oil and grease used to prepare the food. Artists and vendors participating in our “Go Green!” initiative are identified with a green thumbprint. Green Mountain Energy Company, the nation’s leading competitive retail provider of cleaner energy, is generously donating 73 metric tons of carbon offsets – enough to offset all of the carbon dioxide emissions generated by this year’s festival! Drop by their booth at 4th and Main and find out more about pollution-free electricity. www.greenmountainenergy.com Park Your Bike for Free! The Bicycle Corral, sponsored by the Fort Worth Bicycling Association and Bicycles, Inc., is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily at the parking lot on 4th Street, east of the Houston Street intersection. The corral will include security fencing, bike racks for storage and an ID system to avoid theft. With more than 480 miles of bike paths either completed or planned, Fort Worth is cycle friendly!

Free Water Stations!

To help support and raise awareness for water conservation, the Tarrant Regional Water District (TRWD) is sponsoring free water stations around the festival. • Bring your own water bottles and fill them up for free • Get a souvenir aluminum water bottle for 9 coupons The stations feature Fort Worth’s nationally renowned municipal water dispensed with a state-of-the-art U/V filtration system and chilled to perfection.
