Experience the JFK Tribute.
On November 22, 1963, John F. Kennedy spoke to an adoring crowd in Fort Worth outside the Hotel Texas (now the Hilton Fort Worth). To commemorate this historic event and honor the legacy of JFK, DFWII completed a permanent exhibit in 2012, funded in part by the proceeds of the MAIN ST. Fort Worth Arts Festival. The JFK Tribute – located in General Worth Square at the southeast corner of Main and 8th Streets – features a heroic-sized bronze sculpture, an elegant granite plaza and stirring photographs and quotations. Be sure to spend a few moments experiencing this inspiring tribute.
Pardon the Construction | Even Better. Downtown is Getting
IMAGINE. EXPLORE.
CREATE.
All along, the mission of the MAIN ST. Fort Worth Arts Festival has been to showcase Downtown Fort Worth. The festival began in 1986 as the vision of Robert Bass, and it has transformed over the years into an American masterpiece. Downtown Fort Worth continues to transform, too, as you can see by the construction in Sundance Square. This fall, two new office buildings and a beautiful
event plaza will open, creating a fabulous Sundance Square centerpiece for Downtown Fort Worth. The rest of Downtown is evolving, as well, with a vibrant mix of hotels, clubs, restaurants and attractions. These additions will add a new dimension to the ArtsFest, and are certain to stir more excitement in Downtown Fort Worth, which is already one of the finest urban areas in the U.S.
From the most brilliant brushstrokes to the highest soaring arias, all great art begins with a budding artist. It rests in a place where creative minds are nurtured. Where inspiration and imagination are cultivated. The University of Texas at Arlington is just such a place. We recognize potential and guide it from that early spark of talent into lifelong passion. That’s what makes us a beacon of artistic expression. Learn more at www.uta.edu.

Festival Information Booth Got questions? This is the place to go! Presented by The T and the TRE, the MAIN ST. Information Booth is located on Main between 3rd and 4th Streets. Discover everything you need to know about MAIN ST., Sundance Square, Downtown restaurants and shops, plus the transportation options available around Fort Worth.
Please, No Pets! Unfortunately, MAIN ST. is not pet-friendly! Pets are often intimidated by crowds and can react unpredictably. For the comfort and safety of our patrons, people with pets will be asked to leave the event area. This is a city ordinance. All service animals are welcome.
Festival Schedule
Food and beverage coupon sales end 30 minutes before the close of the festival each evening. The “MAIN ST. Creates!” area closes at approximately 8 p.m. each evening except Sunday, when it closes at 6 p.m. The exhibiting artists are allowed to close at 8 p.m. (6 p.m. on Sunday), but many of the artists choose to stay open much later to participate in the evening’s festivities. A tip for art shoppers: seek out these “night owls” and enjoy the opportunity to spend more quality time with them.
Food, Beverage and Activity Coupons All food and beverage purchases are by coupon only. Coupons are also necessary to participate in many of the activities at “MAIN ST. Creates!” (although several activities are free). Coupons are available at the red booths located conveniently throughout the festival grounds. All booths accept American Express, MasterCard and Visa. A strip of 10 coupons is $10, and individual coupons cost $1. If you need cash, ATM machines are located throughout the festival. Food and beverage coupon sales end 30 minutes before the close of the festival each evening. Sorry, there are no refunds. matthew hatala artist spotlight | 2012 BEST OF SHOW WINNER Matthew Hatala creates beautiful wooden hollow forms from wood found around the world. “The main thrust of my work is form and not function. The rough material is mounted on the lathe, a machine that spins the work in a circle on a horizontal plane. Then the process of truing the form begins. I use hand tools to shape the outside as it spins, and then excavate the insides.” The forms are then left to dry and turned again to insure stability, sanded to a scratchless finish and topped with his signature handle. Be sure to visit booth 409 to see Matthew’s latest work.

FOLLOW THE RED BRICK ROAD | Fine Arts & Crafts Showcase
During the festival, the red bricks of Main Street become a pathway to magical artistic experiences. Take the journey from 2nd Street to 8th Street – and back again – to discover an enormous variety of artworks, from sculpture to painting, from the dramatic to the whimsical. The art is truly the “heart and soul” of the festival. This is a juried art fair, which means that artists must submit their work to a jury of

experts before exhibiting here. Of the 1400 artists that applied to exhibit at this year’s festival, only 208 were chosen for exhibition. Mediums range from sculpture, painting and photography to woodcarvings, glasswork, jewelry, fashion and multimedia. We owe a big thanks to the 2013 Artist Selection Jury: William Bailey, Jewelry; Tom Diel, Mixed Media; Ann Ekstrom, Painting; Sarah Rishel, Graphics & Printmaking; and Elaine Taylor, Gallery Manager, Fort Worth Community Arts Center. On the first day of the show, another jury will select the best of the 2013 Exhibiting Artists, so look for the booths displaying prize banners. MAIN ST. will award more than $10,500 in prize money to artists this year. On 3rd Street, be sure to visit the Emerging Artists, who are just starting their careers. You can support a budding artist while adding a beautiful object to your art collection.

Our Favorite Color: Green
|MAIN ST. Environmental Efforts
“Go Green” Initiative. We’re working hard to reduce our carbon footprint through partnerships with the Tarrant Regional Water District, Green Mountain Energy, Waste Management, Inc. and Bicycles, Inc. In 2012, we recycled over 75% of the bottles and cans left behind at the festival. To reduce our use of public landfills, we use biodegradable plates, cups and eating utensils. Festival staff also recycles 100% of the oil and grease used to prepare the food. We’ve partnered with Green Mountain Energy for the past three years to reduce our carbon impact. Based on last year’s event emissions, Green Mountain is generously donating 44 metric tons of carbon offsets this year. That has the same environmental benefit as not driving more than 100,000 miles and is enough to offset the estimated carbon dioxide emissions generated by the festival’s onsite generators, vehicles, and staff air travel. Drop by their booth at 4th and Main Streets and find out more about pollution-free electricity! Artists Are Going Green, Too! MAIN ST. salutes those artists who use earthfriendly techniques, materials or themes in their work.
