Dear Friends of Dock Mennonite Academy T

he 2020-21 school year was again a year shaped by Covid. The pandemic intertwined with the extreme polarization of our country defined yet another unusual and challenging year. Yet we celebrate what God did and continues to do at Dock. We celebrate your faithful partnership in this life-changing ministry. You are an inspiration to our students and teachers. We are grateful for your role in preparing students for responsible stewardship of life as members of God’s people in a global society. The 2020-2021 Annual Report is a celebration of this journey at Dock Mennonite Academy. This year we challenged our school family to focus on Jesus and our faith values in contrast to what we witnessed in our broader community. We encouraged our school family to allow the life and words of Jesus, rather than political ideologies, to guide our school. We are Christcentered, beginning with the values of Jesus. We believe the way of Jesus invites people from both progressive and conservative backgrounds to come together around the way of Jesus. As we respect each other, we become a community that reconnects with these faith values and shapes our journey as a school. There is no more important time than now to provide an environment like Dock for our community. This is an important time to thank you for supporting this Christ-centered ministry for our children. They are the future of our community.

As we respect each other, we become a community that reconnects with these faith values and shapes our journey as a school. We enjoyed another strong financial year despite the challenges we faced. We were grateful for unusual grants and other funding sources that allowed us to finish the year well. Your support through gifts and supporting fund raising events was strong, even though events needed to be altered. Support during this unusual year gave evidence of the incredible community that surrounds and encourages our Dock students. Throughout this year, Dock partnered with parents and church congregations in shaping the lives of young people. We celebrate your generosity and your role in providing a faith-infused education for our students. We welcome your continued support as we inspire young people to grow and lead the next generation toward a life of impact for Christ! In Christ,

Dr. Conrad Swartzentruber Superintendent

Deep Gratitude for Generosity W

e are grateful for the generous support of individuals, families, businesses, churches, and foundations during the unique 2020-21 year. In addition to our annual fund donations of $230,000, our net fundraising events profit was $243,900. Dock received $61,000 toward the Clemens Center project and $17,000 toward special projects. Students at Dock received $1,962,000 in church support through the Mennonite Education Plan and Congregational Partnership Plan. Dock also received $396,000 in EITC/OSTC and SPE funds which provided financial aid and benefited qualifying families and students. The Board of Trustees is thankful for the planned and estate gifts received. We are reminded of the importance of planned and legacy gifts through charitable bequests, gift annuities, IRA rollovers, retirement plan designations, and donor advised funds. In addition, the Dock community appreciated the receipt of seven grants totaling $19,000. Gifts to special projects continue to fill some of the needs which are above budget and not included in the Dock Fund. In 2020-21, Dock received $38,000 in contributions toward special projects including: • Urban/Philadelphia Fund • Sponsorship Assistance Fund • Claude and Anna Groff Endowment Fund • Colby Swartley Memorial Fund • Harvey Bauman Scholarship Fund • James 1:27 Single Parent Scholarship Fund • Janice Meyers Scholarship Fund • Jeanine Musselman Scholarship Fund

We are grateful for God’s faithfulness which enables students to study and explore their interests and passions. Dock is grateful for the many volunteers, sponsorships, and gift-in-kind donations throughout the year. During the 2020-21 school year, we had the opportunity to impact 631 students including 55 international students from Australia, China, Palestine, South Korea, Spain, and Switzerland. The class of 2021 included 84 members with 91% attending college, 2% entering the job market and apprenticeship programs, and 7% doing a gap year of service and experience. We are grateful for God’s faithfulness which enables students to study and explore their interests and passions through amazing programs and opportunities at Dock. Thank you for investing in the lives of Dock students through your gifts and generosity which is an encouragement as students are “learning for lives of purpose.” Gratefully,

Robert D. Rutt Director of Advancement
