Our vision for Dock is to be a place of gathering and belonging for students and our community. We believe Dock should be a place for people to gather from all cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds—a place where community is experienced and strengthened. Our vision is to be a place where our community can gather to worship, enjoy the arts, celebrate, connect, collaborate, share food together, and compete in athletics. We see Dock as a place where people can belong. Our community needs Dock more now than ever! A student recently reflected, “I’m grateful for teachers who take time out of their day to encourage, pray, or reach out to me. It’s only at a special place like Dock that the teachers are so involved in the lives and success of their students. They want us to dream and achieve great things, and for that I am thankful.”

We believe Dock should be a place for people to gather from all cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds—a place where community is experienced and strengthened.

The 2018-2019 Annual Report is a celebration of this special place of gathering and belonging, Dock Mennonite Academy. It gives evidence of your partnership in this ministry. Thank you! Your faithful support of Dock is an inspiration to our students and faculty. We enjoyed another strong financial year as our two campuses are now fully integrated, supporting students from Early Childhood through Grade 12. AdvancED (now Cognia) and the Mennonite Education Agency affirmed the great work at Dock through a comprehensive accreditation process that reviewed both our academic and faith components. We dreamed of a new middle school model of Project-Based Learning that would tap into students’ passion and interest as they take more responsibility for their own learning. We started a Mini-Term for high school as we continue to consider new ways to impact and inspire our students. Throughout this year, Dock partnered with parents and church congregations in shaping the lives of young people. We celebrate your generosity and your role in providing a faith-infused education for our students. Thank you for your prayers and financial support of Dock. We welcome your continued support as we inspire young people to grow and lead the next generation toward a life of impact for Christ! In Christ,

Dr. Conrad Swartzentruber Superintendent Annual Report 2018-19 - 3

Deep Gratitude for Generosity

We had the opportunity to impact 738 students including 75 international students from China, South Korea, Spain, Italy, Palestine, and Albania.

4 - Dock Mennonite Academy

We are grateful for the generous support of individuals, families, businesses, churches, and foundations during the 2018-19 year. In addition to our annual fund donations of $213,000, our net fundraising events profit was $228,000. Dock was delighted to receive $183,500 toward the EC-8 campus construction loan and $5,000 toward the Rosenberger Academic Center loan. Now, both construction loans are paid in full. Dock also received $369,000 in EITC and OSTC funds which provided financial aid and benefited qualifying families and students. The Board of Trustees is thankful for the addition of $90,400 toward Dock’s endowment through planned and estate gifts. We are reminded of the importance of planned and legacy gifts through charitable bequests, gift annuities, IRA rollovers, retirement plan designations, and donor advised funds. In addition, the Dock community appreciated the receipt of four grants totaling $10,000.

Thank you for investing in the lives of Dock students through your gifts and generosity.

The Dock community expressed appreciation for Pillars and Partners during a November Pillar and Partner Appreciation event. This special evening included a special dinner, Superintendent’s report, and the musical, Sound of Music. We celebrated God’s faithfulness enabling students to study and explore their interests and passions through amazing programs and opportunities at Dock. Gifts to special projects continue to fill some of the needs which are above budget and not included in the Dock Fund. In 2018-19, special projects included: • Urban/Philadelphia Fund • Sponsorship Assistance Fund (fostering international Mennonite relationships) • Colby Swartley Memorial Fund • Harvey Bauman Scholarship Fund • James 1:27 Single Parent Scholarship Fund Dock is grateful for the many volunteers, sponsorships, and gift-in-kind donations throughout the year. During the 2018-19 school year, we had the opportunity to impact 738 students including 75 international students from China, South Korea, Spain, Italy, Palestine, and Albania. The class of 2019 included 103 members with 90% attending college, 6% entering the job market and apprenticeship programs, and 4% doing a gap year of service and experience. Thank you for investing in the lives of Dock students through your gifts and generosity which is an encouragement as students are “learning for lives of purpose.” Gratefully,

Robert D. Rutt Director of Advancement Annual Report 2018-19 - 5
