LEARNING FOR LIVES OF PURPOSE
A PIONEER IN EDUCATION: CHRISTOPHER DOCK
Christopher Dock was a compassionate, 18th Century Mennonite educator who pioneered a shift in the philosophy of teaching by combining academics and faith. He emphasized character building, classroom connections, and discussion to encourage a richer educational experience, just as Dock Mennonite Academy continues to do today.
DOCK MENNONITE ACADEMY, an independent school serving students ages three through twelfth grade, provides exceptional academics within an inviting, Christ-centered community. Students, along with the caring guidance of teachers, family, and church, are encouraged to develop their interests through exploration and inquiry. There is a balanced integration of learning, faith, and life at Dock Mennonite Academy, and it is within this uniquely blended environment that students realize their potential, seek ownership of their faith, and find their place in the world.
LEARNING FOR LIVES OF PURPOSE
S
ince 1952, Dock Mennonite Academy has taught generations of young women and men to be confident thinkers who lead lives of purpose.
Because Mennonite values are fundamental to a Dock education, students emerge with a humble attitude of service and a desire to share their unique talents as global citizens. Woven into a rigorous college-preparatory curriculum are essential life skills: critical thinking, problem solving, inquisitiveness, teamwork and leadership. These valuable skills serve Dock graduates well throughout their lives and careers.
A BALANCED INTEGRATION OF ACADEMICS, FAITH, AND SERVICE At DOCK MENNONITE ACADEMY, strong academics are delivered from a faith perspective. This provides a solid educational foundation upon which all students can build a fulfilling future. Throughout their years at Dock, students are members of a caring community of positive role models and peers with a similar value system who encourage and support each other in their intellectual and spiritual growth.

ACADEMICS Academic excellence is delivered through a flexible curriculum that allows students to select classes based on their individual interests and learning styles. At any one time, a visitor could step onto campus and witness a robotics competition, a Shakespeare analysis, a forensics dig, a government simulation, or students collecting data for a Statistics project. Seventeen Advanced Placement courses are offered on campus, and others are available online, to those who seek exposure to college-level coursework. The school taught 16 national merit scholars in the past five years and approximately one quarter of the class graduates with honors. a journey of understanding how to genuinely put others before themselves. They learn to have a broader perspective, and to extend their knowledge from school, home, and church out into the world. Enrolled in a curriculum with an emphasis placed on service, peace and justice, community, and global citizenship, students quickly discover ways to put their faith in action. Through an array of community outreach programs and partnerships with service organizations, students learn to be leaders and mature as individuals by serving others. As seniors reflect on their time at Dock before graduation, some of their most meaningful experiences are from service trips to Mexico and Guatemala or helping children and adults with disabilities through the Milagre Kids School and Easterseals. These real-world interactions leave a lasting impression on students, giving them the opportunity to grow in their faith, and flourish as responsible, dependable individuals who dedicate themselves to being good citizens of the world.
