Bishop J.V. Porter, Pastor Christ Cathedral Church Fayetteville, NC 28301 Presiding Apostle William T. Ford, Sr., Pastor Parks Chapel Church Officiating

Brother Charles Winston was born on January 15, 1955 to the late John and Mildred Winston in Fayetteville North Carolina. As young child, he began to feel the call of the God in his life as a young child and continued to do so until his death. He departed this life on October 9, 2009 at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Since 1963, he has been an active member of Parks Chapel Church where two pastors, the late Bishop E.A. Jackson and presently Apostle William T. Ford, Sr., served as his leaders. Brother Charles Winston attended public schools in Cumberland County and after attended Fayetteville State University. He frequently visited local churches and was loved by many for his encouraging and motivating words. Charles was a very strong, outgoing, and giving person. He had several special gifts: serving and attending to elderly, singing and cooking. He enjoyed making people laugh and would give you his last if you needed it. He touched so many people’s lives throughout his lifetime and he had a true passion for meeting people and traveling. He was loved by many! As a young child, Charles participated in several church organizations on the national and local area which include President of the General Ushers Convention in which he was appointed as the first president in 1975 by the late Bishop W.I. Jones. Since that time, he has been re-elected over ten times to continue in this capacity. He was also currently serving as the Chairman of the Trustee’s Board at the Sunday School Convention, Public Collector of the Young People’s Christian League Convention, member of the General Board of the General Church and member of the National Freewill Baptist Convention. In the local church, he served as the past President of the Parks Chapel Church Senior Usher Board, Senior Choir, Pastor’s Aide, and Young People’s Christian League. He has been featured in the History of the United American Freewill Baptist (FWB) Church Denomination Publication and Who’s Who Among Black Males Publications. He was a very knowledgeable servant of God and his presence will be missed. He is blessed to have siblings: Joyce Bowden, Alice Winston, John Winston, Jr., and Patricia Flippin (Harry), all of Fayetteville; and a stepsister, Elder Mary Lou Nazareth of New Jersey. He was preceded in death by his stepbrother, James Wesley Winston (Sue). Other survivors to cherish his memories: one uncle Samuel Winston (Inez) of Broadway, North Carolina; 16 nieces and nephews; 20 great nieces and nephews. He had two very special nieces, Beverly Carol Bowden and Penni Machelle Winston (Michael Holmes), whom he reared. Over the years, Charles adapted several close friends as his brothers and sisters, Elder Curtis and Mrs Janice Worthy, Elder Kenny Haywood, Sister Alma Fuller, and a host of other family and friends.

When tomorrow starts without me, And I’m not here to see. And if the sun should rise and find your eyes All filled with tears for me. I wish so much you wouldn’t cry The way you did today While thinking of the many things We didn’t get to say. I know how much you loved me, Just as much as I loved you. For each time you think of me, I know you’ll miss me too. But when tomorrow starts without me, Please try to understand, That an angel came and called my name And took me by the hand. He said my place was ready, In heaven far above, And that I’d have to leave behind All those I dearly loved. So tomorrow starts without me Don’t think we’re far apart, For every time you think of me I’m right there in your heart.

We, the family of Charles F. Winston, wish to express or deepest gratitude for the prayers, calls, cards, love and concern shown to us in our time of bereavement. Through faith, we know that God will give us strength. Please continue to keep us in your prayers. - The Family
