BISHOP:

What rule hath God given to direct us how we may glorify and enjoy Him?

BISHOP-ELECT:

The Word of God, which is contained in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament, is the only rule to direct us on how we may glorify and enjoy Him.

BISHOP:

What do the Scriptures principally teach?

BISHOP-ELECT:

The Scriptures principally teach what man is to believe concerning God, and what duty God requires of man.

BISHOP:

Who is God?

BISHOP-ELECT:

God is a Spirit, infinite, eternal and unchangeable; In His being are wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness and trust.

BISHOP:

What is the Summary of Law?

BISHOP-ELECT:

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and great Commandment and the second is: you shall love your neighbor as yourself.

BISHOP:

Who are the ministers of the Church?

BISHOP-ELECT:

The ministers of the Church are Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors, Teachers, Bishops, Elders and Deacons.

BISHOP:

What is the duty of Christians?

BISHOP-ELECT:

The duty of a Christian is to follow Christ, to come together weekly for corporate worship, to serve, pray and give for the spreading of the Gospel of the Kingdom of God.

Bishop Terrell Fletcher * B I S H O P - E L E C T W I L L S TA N D *

BISHOP:

Therefore, today, you are charged to uphold and obey the Word of God as an example to this flock and submit yourselves to the Lord with all prayerful humility, and by your example, teaching those under your care to do the same. Will you be faithful in prayer, and in the study of the Holy Scriptures that you may have the mind of Christ by faithfully preaching and instructing the people of God? BISHOP-ELECT:

I will do so, by the grace of God.

BISHOP:

Will you be merciful to all, show compassion to the poor and needy and strangers destitute of help?

BISHOP-ELECT:

I will do so, God being my helper.

BISHOP:

Will you encourage and support all believers in their gifts and ministries, nourish them with God's grace and pray for them always?

BISHOP-ELECT:

I will, by the power of God.

BISHOP:

Will you be concerned about the souls of all mankind, regardless of their race, creed, gender or color?

BISHOP-ELECT:

I will do so, by the grace of God.

BISHOP:

Will you uphold the foundational doctrine set forth in the Holy Scriptures in governing this church?

BISHOP-ELECT:

I will, God being my helper.

Bishop Ronald Godbee, Sr. *BISHOP-ELECT WILL SIT*

PRESIDING BISHOP: Bishop-Elect

Darrell L. Dorris Sr., you have been chosen by God and the people have affirmed their trust in you by acclaiming your appointment. A Bishop in God's Holy Church is called to be one with the apostles in proclaiming Christ's resurrection, interpreting the gospel, and testifying to Christ's sovereignty as Lord of Lords and King of kings. You are called to guard the faith, unity and discipline of the Church; to celebrate and administer the sacraments of the New Covenant; to ordain elders and deacons and to join in the consecrating of Bishops when authority is given to do so; and to be in all things a faithful pastor and wholesome example for the entire flock of Christ. With your fellow bishops, you will share in the leadership of the church throughout the world. Your heritage is the faith of patriarchs, prophets, apostles, martyrs, and those of every generation who have looked to God in hope. Your job will be to follow Him who came, not to be served, but to serve, and to give your life for many. Bishop-Elect Darrell L. Dorris, Sr., are you persuaded that you desire the office of the Bishop by the divine inspiration of God?

BISHOP-ELECT:

I am so persuaded.

PRESIDING BISHOP: Will BISHOP-ELECT:

you accept and fulfill this office in obedience to Christ?

I will obey Christ and will serve in His name.

PRESIDING BISHOP: Will

you be faithful in prayer and in the study of the Holy Scriptures that you may have the mind of Christ?

BISHOP-ELECT:

I will, for He is my help.

PRESIDING BISHOP: Will

you boldly proclaim and interpret the Gospel of Christ, enlightening the minds and stirring up the consciousness of your people?

BISHOP-ELECT:

I will, by the power of the Holy Spirit.

PRESIDING BISHOP: As

a Bishop, will you both encourage and support all baptized people in their gifts and ministries, nourish them from the riches of God's grace, pray for them without ceasing, and celebrate with them the sacraments of our redemption?

6

BISHOP-ELECT:

I will, in the Name of Christ, who is the Lord and Bishop of our souls.

PRESIDING BISHOP: Will BISHOP-ELECT:

you guard the faith, unity, and discipline of the Church?

I will. you share with your fellow apostles and bishops in the government of the whole Church, sustain and take counsel with them and guide and strengthen the deacons and all others who minister in the Church?

BISHOP-ELECT:

I will, by the grace given to me.

PRESIDING BISHOP: Will

you be merciful to all, show compassion to the poor, and defend those who have no helper? I will, for the sake of Christ Jesus our Lord.

PRESIDING BISHOP: Darrell

L. Dorris, Sr, through these promises, you have committed yourself to God and to serve His Church in this office. We, therefore, call upon you, chosen to be a guardian of the Church's faith, to lead us in the confession of your faith.

BISHOP-ELECT:

I believe in God the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. I believe Jesus was crucified, buried and descended into hell and on the third day, he rose again. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, God's Holy Apostolic-Universal Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

THE CASSOCK: The

foundational garment of the Bishop, over which all garments are layered. It is a close fitting garment, reach to the feed, and may be worn by all ordained clergy as a symbol of a servant. The Bishop wears the cassock in accordance with the Lord's instruction "whoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant." (Matthew 20:27) THE CINCTURE: A wide

belt, which is tied around the waist, even as the Bishop is exhorted to gird himself with truth. It also speaks of the humility, which our Lord girded Himself with a towel as He washed His disciples' feet. THE ROCHET: A white

garment with full sleeves, which are tied at the wrist by bands. It is a ceremonial garment that serves as a symbol of the priesthood. It is reminiscent of the linen ephod worn by the high priest in the book of Leviticus. THE CHIMERE: A sleeveless

gown worn over the rochet and represents the mantle of a prophet. It is worn exclusively by the Bishops because they are the chief proclaimers and defenders of the faith in the apostolic tradition. THE TIPPET: A skillful

wide-cut purple material worn over the chimere, which may be embellished with the personal seal of the Bishop. The Tippet is used instead of the stole that is normally used with the Chausable. THE ZUCCHETTO: The

indoor covering. A small, semi-spherical headdress skullcap worn by the clergy. It is ordinarily made of cloth or skin. The color can be scarlet, red-purple, blue-purple, cardinalred or magenta. THE GOLD CHAIN & PECTORAL CROSS: This

is worn only by Bishops. The Gold Cross & Chain are around the Bishop's neck as a symbol of imprisonment for Christ. The gold chain is a symbol of endurance, which emphasizes that the wearer is not a novice. The cross is a sign of salvation and man's redemption. Although it is placed on a beautiful gold chain, it is not suspended around the neck, but it is placed in the left-hand pocket. Therefore, it is not worn, but borne over the Bishop's heart. THE BISHOP'S RING: The

ring is gold with amethyst. It is worn on the right hand as the signet of the Bishop's authority, as well as his dedication to Christ and His Church. THE CROZIER: A tall

staff, which represents the office of the Shepherd. It is a symbol of the Bishop's authority and role as watchman and overseer of God's precious people.
