journey Cleveland Edward Jones was born September 2, 1924 in Chicago, Illinois to Ollie Mae Jones-Graves and Elijah Graves. He attended Jean Baptiste DuSable High School. He met the love of his life Barbara, whom he married on Valentine’s Day in 1986. Cleveland was a hard worker and dedicated his full strength to any job he took on. He loved working on cars, painting and finding random renovation projects to complete around the home. He worked various jobs throughout his life but most notable was his work for the Illinois Central Railroad, the Yellow Cab Company where he officially retired from before finishing his employment life as a custodial worker for The Apostolic Church of God. Cleveland accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1991 at what would later become his church home; Apostolic Church of God (ACOG). Cleveland loved the lord, working hard and having good conversation with everyone he met. He expressed his love for God and his church by being a faithful servant serving on the security and outreach ministry for many years at ACOG. He decided his hard work here was done and entered into eternal rest on October 17, 2021. He was preceded in death by his father Elijah Graves, mother Ollie Mae Graves, daughter Sharon Annetta Jones-Goree, and grandson Jason Jones. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 35 years, Barbara Jones, his children: Melvin Jones, Michael Jones (Brenda), Christina Robertson (Rick); grandchildren: Margie Roberts (Aaron), Sarah Maresca, Michael Jones, Jr. (Renarda), Lisa Simone, a host of great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, family and dear friends.

our beloved God took the strength of a mountain & the majesty of a tree. The warmth of a summer sun, the calm of a quiet sea. The generous soul of nature & the comforting arm of night. The wisdom of the ages and the power of the eagle’s flight, The joy of a morning in spring & the faith of a mustard seed, The patience of eternity & the depth of a family need, Then God combined these qualities, When there was nothing more to add, He knew His masterpiece was complete, And so, He called the work – Cleveland Jones, our dad.
