Santee Santas Collect Canned Food and

Publisher’s Corner Jay Renard/Publisher

Toys at Santee Chick-fil-A

Dee Dean, owner/publisher of the East County Herald, has retired after 20 years of providing San Diego East County with the only Photojournalist Newspaper. This paper has documented 20 years of East County events. There are over 50.000 photos in The Herald archives that are available for viewing.

Santee – Saturday December 1, Santee Chick-Fil-A hosted a “Stuff the Truck” with canned foods and toys. New, unwrapped toys and non-perishable canned food items to benefit Santee Santas were requested.

I have worked with Dee for about 10 years and wish to see The Herald continue to be the County’s only Photojournalist paper. I am assuming the publishing of The Herald.

Participants who donated food and toys received a choice of a free Chick-fil-A, choice of original or spicy chicken sandwich, , Chick-fil-A nuggets or Chick-n-Strips.

The East County Herald is transitioning from a hard copy format to an on line digital format. The photojournalistic essence of The Herald will not change. In fact, expect to see more photos in coming issues. Digital format will allow The Herald to adjust to the number of community events that happen each week.

Santee Santas is an all-volunteer organization, with school district employees, City of Santee staff, firefighters, local businesses, service organizations, mobile home parks and local citizens working together to make each year’s endeavors successful. There are minimal administrative costs; all donations are tax deductible and all donations are used to assist families and seniors in need of help.

We will be bringing back columnists if they wish to return to the Digital Herald. We will be adding new features such as columns from law enforcement, fire fighters, local city officials, and local service agencies. We have also reached out to the Grossmont Union High School District to offer their students an opportunity to write columns, take photos, and create pages to be inserted into The Herald.

Now in its 65th year, Santee Santas is an all-volunteer nonprofit that provides help to members of the Santee community who live within the Santee School District and are in need of assistance. Volunteers include school district employees, city of Santee staff, firefighters, local businesses, service organizations, mobile home parks and local citizens working together to make each year’s endeavors successful. The nonprofit’s signature effort is an annual holiday children’s toy and food drive that brings the Christmas spirit to about 300 families, including many low-income seniors. Volunteers also give out hundreds of poinsettias to low-income seniors who live at mobile-home parks throughout the city.

The ad structure is changing as well. The Digital Herald will be going to a monthly billing cycle with options for quarterly billing. With the costs of printing and distribution eliminated, the ad rates will be lower. All adds running now are gratis until the new rates go into effect. This new rate will begin sometime in the first quarter of 2019.

ADVANCED HEARING AID TECHNOLOGY $ For LessThan 200

“I was amazed! Sounds I hadn’t heard in years came back to me!” — Don W., Sherman, TX

How can a hearing aid that costs less than $200

be every bit as good as one sells for $2,250 or more? The answer: Although tremendous

strides have been made in Advanced Hearing Aid Technology, those cost reductions have not been passed on to you. Until now...

MDHearingAid® uses the same kind of Advanced Hearing Aid Technology incorporated into hearing aids that cost thousands more at a small fraction of the price. Over 300,000 satisfied MDHearingAid customers agree: High-quality, FDA-registered hearing aids don’t have to cost a fortune. The fact is, you don’t need to spend thousands for a hearing aid. MDHearingAid is a medical-grade hearing aid offering sophistication and high performance, and works right out of the box with no timeconsuming “adjustment” appointments. You can contact a licensed hearing specialist conveniently online or by phone — even after your purchase at no cost. No other company provides such extensive support. Now that you know...why pay more?

Can a Hearing Aid Delay or Prevent Alzheimer’s and Dementia? A study by the National Institute on Aging suggests older individuals with hearing loss are significantly more likely to develop Alzheimer’s and dementia over time than those who retain their hearing. They suggest that an intervention — such as a hearing aid — could delay or prevent this by improving hearing!
