El Cajon Receives $4.8 Million to Improve Street Safety The City of El Cajon was awarded $4.8 million in grant funding from Caltrans and the Federal Highway Administration. The grants will fund a number of improvements along two busy El Cajon roads, Jamacha Road (which turns into North Second Street) and Madison Avenue. The grant awards aim to improve vehicle and pedestrian safety at these two locations. Jamacha Road from North Second Street from Broadway to Washington Avenue - Grant funds will be used to increase visibility, install raised medians, and provide more visible pedestrian crossings at both signalized intersections and uncontrolled crossings. Safety enhancements at uncontrolled intersections will also include new flashing warning beacons to alert motorists of pedestrians. Madison Avenue from North Johnson Avenue to North Second Street - Safety improvements along Madison Avenue will include new street lights, bike lanes and crosswalk enhancements. The City will be providing more information to the community in the upcoming year with improvements anticipated to break ground in the summer of 2020. For additional information, visit the City’s website at www.cityofelcajon.us or call Public Works at (619) 441-1653.

East County White Christmas East County White Christmas is actually infrared photography. Infrared is just below visible light spectrum that cannot be seen by the naked eye. Digital cameras can “see” infrared and is generally filtered out of standard digital cameras. If a digital camera is modified to only see infrared, spectacular photos are possible. Visible green vegetation appears white thus giving a winter like photo.

Dianne’s Corner News and notes from County Supervisor Dianne Jacob Helping seniors in crisis: Medical experts, social workers, law enforcement officers and others recently joined me in La Mesa to put a spotlight on our new Alzheimer’s Response Team, a pilot program in East County that is off to an encouraging start. It aims to make sure that those with dementia are directed to the most appropriate services during a crisis. The early numbers are solid enough -- more than 50 referrals and over 20 cases in only a few months -- that we’re already talking about ways to expand it to other parts of the county. Thank you to Grossmont Healthcare District, Sharp HealthCare, Alzheimer’s San Diego and others for teaming up with the county on this groundbreaking effort! Booming backcountry biz: The latest annual report from the San Diego County Vintners Association showed continued growth in our wine industry. Vintners had a $50 million economic impact on the region in 2017, a $19.6 million increase over 2016. Our wine industry is going gangbusters and has emerged as a significant player in our economy. I see a real can-do spirit among our vintners and the county will continue to do all it can to encourage this growth. Stop the bleed: At the urging of ER doctors, first-responders and others, the county has started installing bleeding control kits at its facilities. Medical experts say the kits are critical in boosting survival rates after a traumatic event. I want to thank my colleagues on the Board of Supervisors for joining me in supporting this initiative. For more District 2 news, go to www.diannejacob.com or follow me on Facebook and Twitter. If I can assist with a county issue, please call my office at 619-531-5522 or email dianne.jacob@ sdcounty.ca.gov Have a great East County day! Dianne

ADVANCED HEARING AID TECHNOLOGY $ For LessThan 200

“I was amazed! Sounds I hadn’t heard in years came back to me!” — Don W., Sherman, TX

How can a hearing aid that costs less than $200

be every bit as good as one sells for $2,250 or more? The answer: Although tremendous

strides have been made in Advanced Hearing Aid Technology, those cost reductions have not been passed on to you. Until now...

MDHearingAid® uses the same kind of Advanced Hearing Aid Technology incorporated into hearing aids that cost thousands more at a small fraction of the price. Over 300,000 satisfied MDHearingAid customers agree: High-quality, FDA-registered hearing aids don’t have to cost a fortune. The fact is, you don’t need to spend thousands for a hearing aid. MDHearingAid is a medical-grade hearing aid offering sophistication and high performance, and works right out of the box with no timeconsuming “adjustment” appointments. You can contact a licensed hearing specialist conveniently online or by phone — even after your purchase at no cost. No other company provides such extensive support. Now that you know...why pay more?

Can a Hearing Aid Delay or Prevent Alzheimer’s and Dementia? A study by the National Institute on Aging suggests older individuals with hearing loss are significantly more likely to develop Alzheimer’s and dementia over time than those who retain their hearing. They suggest that an intervention — such as a hearing aid — could delay or prevent this by improving hearing!

Mast Park Renovation Groundbreaking Santee – Tuesday December 4 was the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of a $10 million renovation of Mast Park. For safety reasons, this will require the park to be closed until the project is completed in late 2019. Outdated amenities within the park –the restroom, shade pavilion, basketball court and playground – will be replaced with modern facilities. Even more dramatic will be new landscaping featuring a mix of drought-tolerant native plants, dry creek beds and other hardscape reminiscent of a botanical garden. The park was redesigned to enhance public safety. There will be a dedicated parking spot reserved for sheriff’s deputies and improved sight lines so officers can see more areas of the park.
